Chapter 54, Section 14: The Fog Tracking Battle

Chapter 54, Section 1.4: The Fog Tracking Battle

"Don't be nervous, I didn't shoot the wrong person." Daolin put the pistol back, his finger twitched slightly, and then he pointed at the wounded Tommar.

Jing Yan stared intently at Tomar, who, after being shot, emitted black gas as if deflated.

"Everyone scatter! I'll count to three and you all run away!" Dao Lin said, taking a step back.

“One.” Tomar was like a deflated balloon, becoming increasingly shriveled, yet the amount of gas escaping from it was also increasing.

"Two." The shriveled sac fell to the ground, black gas condensing around it.

"Three." Everyone turned and ran, while the black gas behind them gradually solidified, roaring as it charged toward Mu Yin.

Mu Yin gestured to Dao Lin, then turned and ran in the opposite direction from Dao Lin, while Dao Lin ran towards Jing Yan's side.

"So what's going on?" Jing Yan asked as he ran, covering his mouth to avoid getting sand in.

“The ghost can transform into anyone. The example of Tomar trying to touch Mu Yin is a case in point. After Mu Yin said he didn’t want to get his clothes dirty, everyone took several steps back, except for Tomar, who only took a small step back. From this, we can tell that Tomar has been eliminated, so the ghost transformed into his appearance,” Dao Lin said as he ran.

Jing Yan frowned, saying with concern, "Is it really okay to let Mu Yin face the ghost alone? If he gets caught, wouldn't we all be in trouble..."

"Jingyan, you have to trust Mu Yin. The fact that he was chosen as the most important person means he's very strong, and we have to go pick him up. Come with me." Dao Lin stopped and turned to run in another direction.

"Do you know where to pick them up?" It seems like there wasn't a chance to communicate, so when did these two develop this tacit understanding?

As Dao Lin ran, he observed the surrounding scenery and slowly said, "He told me."

Jing Yan's lips twitched slightly. "What? How come I didn't know!" What could he say in just a second? Why didn't he know?
"Gesture." Just now, when Mu Yin was running, he made a gesture to Dao Lin, his left hand tilted upwards, and his right index finger lightly touching the base of his left middle finger.

"Can a simple gesture really be interpreted in so many ways? Or do you smart people just overthink things?" Jing Yan had seen the gesture, but he had no idea what it meant.

"I just kicked Mu Yin on that little rock, and that's what he meant—he wanted me to go meet him at that rock." His left hand tilted upwards to indicate that Mu Yin had been bracing himself against the rock with both hands, looking at him at eye level. His right index finger lightly touching the base of his left middle finger indicated that he had kicked Mu Yin in the chest with his right foot. It's actually a very easy gesture to understand, but only someone like Mu Yin would use such a method to express himself.

"Huh? What the hell is the connection?" Jing Yan looked at Dao Lin with a completely bewildered expression, as if he and Dao Lin were the ones who had gone mad.

"With so many rocks here, can you tell which one is which?"

"There's no need to distinguish these things. Mu Yin is a person, not an immovable object, so just trust him." It was obvious that Dao Lin never thought about identifying which rock he kicked Mu Yin from, and Mu Yin didn't say that he had to go to that particular rock, but rather to wait under a rock of similar size.

"The supplies are being processed via facial recognition again," Dao Lin said, stopping in his tracks, looking troubled.

"Again?" Jing Yan's lips twitched slightly. He hadn't encountered any supplies even once since just now. Could this guy be the legendary lucky one?
Dao Lin turned his back to him and said, "Go find a weapon." Clearly, he had no idea what weapon Jing Yan wanted to find. Taking out a gold pocket watch from his pocket, Dao Lin watched the second hand tick, his icy blue eyes filled with calm.

Suddenly he pressed the button on the gold pocket watch, and time seemed to stand still. Jing Yan remained in the position of holding the gun, the black muzzle pointed directly at Dao Lin's defenseless back, his fingertip on the trigger, a slight movement and the bullet would hit Dao Lin.

Unfortunately, before he could press the button, Dao Lin had already used the prop to stop time.
-
[36] Interval stopwatch

Grade: A (Special)

Description: A sacred object enshrined in a special secret chamber within the pyramid.
How to use: Open the pocket watch and observe the second hand. The watch will stop for the same number of revolutions as the second hand.
Cooling time: none
Commentary: Stopping time sounds magical, and it truly is. Who's really more foolish—using meaningless time to compensate for important moments?
Dao Lin slowly turned around, looking at the dark muzzle of the gun aimed at him. He drew his pistol and fired without hesitation at Jing Yan's temple. Because time was frozen, the bullet hovered in the air, and only its trajectory could be seen.

He turned and walked in another direction. Time passed again. In an instant, a bullet pierced Jing Yan's temple, leaving specks of crimson blood. Then, Jing Yan suddenly disappeared.

At this moment, Mu Yin suddenly took off his black mask. The ethereal abyss gradually solidified. He casually put the mask on the side of his face and said in surprise, "I really fell for it. My acting was pretty good, wasn't it?"

Dao Lin paused, then said with a sigh, "Very bad." The movements were too exaggerated; zero points.

"I've been trying my best to act." From the moment he saw Jing Yan and the others, Mu Yin started to cooperate with Dao Lin in his acting.

"That's why I said your acting is really bad." The Jingyan and the others we just met were all fake. There was indeed only one ghost, but it wasn't disguised as Tomar; it was just a stand-in.

Thanks to Mu Yin's words, "I've never seen that ghost," Dao Lin realized that they might have been deceived by a ghost.

The shadowy ghost was meant to lower their guard, making Dao Lin mistakenly believe it was a real ghost, thus causing him to ignore the others.

Whether it was Tomar deliberately touching Mu Yin or remaining mostly still while everyone else retreated, it was all a way of saying, 'I am the real ghost, come and expose me.' In fact, Daolin did do just that, but he wasn't really foolish enough to believe that it was the real ghost.

He had previously extracted information about the ghost's appearance from Mu Yin, meaning that the ghost was definitely not a black shadow, but rather a human-shaped being. He believed the 'ghost' was completely unaware of this, as he had only arrived at this conclusion after numerous tests with Mu Yin.

The 'ghost' knew that Dao Lin had guessed it could transform into a human, but it didn't know that Dao Lin had guessed it couldn't transform into a shadowy form except for a human.

When it used the illusion of Tommar to deceive Dawlin, it knew that Dawlin would definitely expose it.

Dao Lin knew that the 'ghost' would definitely guess what he was doing, so he chose to play along and pretended not to know about the 'ghost's' existence.

Throughout the entire ordeal, no one else spoke much except for 'Jingyan,' who kept chattering away as if he were a true acquaintance. It was because of this that he believed the real ghost had taken on Jingyan's appearance, and that everything he did was to lure the ghost impersonating Jingyan into his trap.
