Chapter 519, page 2.1-33: The Crown: The Treasure of a Lost Dynasty
The stars twinkled faintly in the sky, and a bright full moon hung high in the sky, casting silvery light and driving away the darkness.
A cool breeze swept by, accompanied by a delightful fragrance.
Dionysus sat beneath a coconut tree, leaning against the trunk, holding a golden cup carved with agave, sipping the wine within. His narrow, gilded phoenix eyes gazed silently at the full moon in the night sky, remaining utterly still.
Her slightly messy, wine-red long hair was casually draped behind her head and spread across the sand, with strands fluttering in the breeze.
The wind was unusually cool tonight, and even drinking alcohol couldn't warm him up.
"It's a little... cold..." Her curled, wine-red eyelashes fluttered, and her long, narrow, gilded phoenix eyes held a hint of dazedness and a slightly tipsy intoxication.
His white divine robes remained pristine, revealing his smooth, white chest and abdomen with each movement. Drops of wine slid down his skin, adding a touch of decadent allure, tempting and intoxicating. The surrounding air was filled with the rich aroma of alcohol, inexplicably giving off a languid, weary feeling, yet undeniably alluring.
For some reason, his face looked no more than fifteen years old, but because of the alcohol, it was flushed with a slight blush, and his eyes were hazy and misty, so intoxicating that people could ignore his youthful appearance.
"I was wondering why I couldn't find you at the banquet. Turns out you were drinking alone here." Berthias walked over with a pot of wine, sat down beside him, and said with a light laugh.
“Why come here if you’re not going to have fun at the banquet? I don’t have what you need here, nor do I have an identity for you to exploit… I have nothing…” He lowered his eyes, muttering to himself, with a hint of self-abandonment in his voice.
Bertias pondered for a few seconds and slowly said, "Probably because she doesn't want to get involved."
“All the gods drank the wine you brewed, and I was afraid that if they lost their divinity, it would implicate innocent people, so I fled before they became angry. After all, I’m always a bit sensitive to danger. I didn’t intentionally eavesdrop on your conversation yesterday; I just happened to be looking for Mu Yegui,” Bertias casually explained.
"Is that so?" Dionysus replied dismissively and then fell silent.
Bertheus sat beside Dionysus, quietly drinking with him. After a long while, he suddenly spoke, "Don't you hate it?"
A gentle breeze swept by, carrying specks of fine sand. Dionysus rubbed his eyes, which were still wet with sand, not quite hearing what Bertias had asked.
"What?" he asked, puzzled.
“You protected them, yet they turned around and smashed your shrine, betrayed you by the people you loved, and even tried to force you to your death.” Berthia paused, then said, “Don’t you hate them?”
"What's the use of hatred? I don't want to take revenge on them. At the very least, they are the people I protect. Losing me would be the greatest punishment for them." No god, no matter what kind, would accept someone who would turn against the god they believe in.
Dionysus added, "They are pitiful."
He really felt sorry for them.
“When I came here, I was thinking that if you hate me, I might be able to use you. Using a god would be the biggest impulse I’ve ever had, and I might even be able to take pride in it. But unfortunately, you didn’t give me that chance,” Bertias said with a low laugh.
Dionysus glanced at Bertias, then chuckled and exposed her, "You're full of lies. You clearly don't think that way at all. What glory? In your eyes, using a god is no different from using a person. You wouldn't even blush. I'm not that stupid; I'm just too lazy to call you out on it."
From the moment Bertias approached him and offered to buy him drinks, he already had a pretty good idea of what the guy was up to. He just couldn't be bothered with such things and didn't care if he was being used, so he pretended to be drunk and slumped over the table, listening to their conversation. Whatever he heard, he didn't care; it was none of his business anyway.
“Smart people don’t become stupid, they just pretend to be stupid,” Dionysus said lazily.
Bertheas looked at Dionysus with a half-smile and asked, "Then tell me, will the dark creatures make their move tonight?"
"Only three people know the effects of that wine: me, Mu Yegui, and you. Before yesterday, only I knew. The Harvest Festival is an annual event, and three thousand gods attend each time. If the dark creatures made a move, it means someone leaked the effects of my wine. Who do you think it could be?"
Dionysus said that only three people knew about it, so if the dark creatures made a move, it must be because someone had leaked the secret.
Bertias smiled and retorted, "Actually, there's another possibility. It depends on how well they prepared. If they were well-prepared, it means they knew about it a long time ago. If they weren't well-prepared, it means they only found out recently. Besides me, others would have been eavesdropping too."
In fact, he believed that Dionysus was not saying this to doubt him, but to tell him that he had deliberately said it in order to wait for this moment, either to play along or to stand by and watch.
"Which one are you?" Dionysus asked.
“Who knows?” Dionysus turned his head to the side and said coldly.
He had no interest in telling anyone; if they wanted to know, they should find the answer themselves, because he would absolutely not tell them.
A commotion arose in the distance, and flames illuminated almost half the sky. Bertias looked at the towering flames and chuckled, saying, "It seems to be the former. The King won't let you do this. If you succeed, it means this was a private decision between you and the King."
The purpose was to lure out the dark creatures so that they could be wiped out in one fell swoop.
Bertheus clinked glasses with Dionysus, then slowly rose to his feet and prepared to walk toward the palace.
Suddenly, Dionysus called out to him, asking in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Did you see Mu Yegui today?"
Bertias was slightly taken aback. When asked this question, he suddenly remembered that he hadn't seen her all day. She hadn't appeared since she went in to see the king.
"Beneath the palace lies a treasure vault containing all the wealth the king amassed during his reign. The king is a dragon, possessing all the desires a dragon should have, including the possessiveness of all things."
“Weins of yer miliyaso, Weins of yer elina'fer lody [divine language: You are my treasure, you belong to me].” Dionysus coldly gazed at the no longer peaceful night and murmured in a language only the gods knew.
Don't bother checking the divine language; I just made it up myself. You can just treat it as divine language.
What is divine language? It's a language only God knows; if someone can understand it, then it's not divine language but human language.
