Chapter 477, page 2.1-6: The Crown: The Treasure of a Lost Dynasty
"Have you heard? There's a new priest who's said to be deeply trusted by the king," the woman said to the female slave cleaning beside her, wiping a beautiful vase.

"You've already gained my complete trust just because of what happened this morning?" The female slave trembled and asked cautiously.

"If you don't have the King's trust, how could you stay? Even Lord Linya..." The woman stopped mid-sentence.

The female slave sensed something terrifying and immediately knelt down, trembling all over, trying to hide herself in a corner.

The Lin Ya they were talking about was walking over from a distance. He paused slightly as he passed by them. Although his eyes were covered with a black cloth, he gave off a terrifying sense of oppression, as if he were really looking at them.

In just a few seconds, he strode forward again, the gold ornaments on his body making a crisp, pleasant sound as they rubbed and clattered together.

He walked straight through the magnificent hall to a secluded door and asked in a deep, pleasant voice, "May I come in?"

While the concept of a door exists in this era, it's at most a framework, offering nothing in reality. It's more accurate to describe it as a door frame than a door itself.

"Come in." A clear voice came from inside the room, sounding exceptionally young.

Lin Ya walked through the door and entered. The first thing he saw was a young man sitting in front of a clay table, drawing something with a 'pen' on a huge clay slab.

"Did I disturb you?" Lin Ya walked to the table and blocked out the light. He stared intently at the young man and asked cryptically.

His handsome face was calm and indifferent, devoid of any superfluous expression. His eyes were covered by a black cloth, giving him an air of mystery. His long, ink-black hair fell casually down his back, held back only by a gold ribbon inlaid with sapphires.

Despite wearing extravagant gold accessories, she didn't look tacky; instead, they added a touch of nobility and pride to her.

The gold ornaments made a crisp sound as he moved.

The young man slightly raised his eyes, his blue-gray eyes filled with curiosity. He wore a simple white robe that revealed his fair and slender arms, and the robe was decorated with some simple gold accents.

Her long, straight, bluish-gray hair was draped over her back, and her overly delicate features possessed an androgynous beauty.

He gave the impression of a thin, handsome man, but in reality, his seemingly frail and muscleless arms contained terrifying strength. Although he looked far too thin, appearing so weak that he seemed like he could be knocked over with a single push.

"Is there something you need?" Bertias asked.

"The king asked me to take you around the city to familiarize you with the geography so you can draw a map," Lin Ya said casually, leaning against the table with his arms crossed in front of his chest.

Bertias glanced at Lin Ya's back with surprise and asked in confusion, "Weren't you cold to me before, thinking I had ulterior motives? How come you suddenly changed your mind?"

To be honest, his landing wasn't ideal. He landed in the arena, right in front of a ferocious beast. To save his life, he had no choice but to expose his strength unarmed, which is why the king took notice of him and brought him back to the palace.

Lin Ya gave him the cold shoulder the whole way, always feeling that he would be a threat to the king.

This is unfair to Bertheas; he hadn't even considered this matter upon landing. However, it's not too late to think about it now, since their task is to bring about the downfall of the dynasty within three years. This means they need to incite some humans who resist the king's rule, adding fuel to the fire and making them want to overthrow the king's rule.

This is something one person can't do alone, but with inside help, it's possible.

He chose to stay by the king's side and find an opportunity to provide information to the rebels. Of course, the most important thing was to first reunite with Daolin and Mu Yegui; it would be more convenient to conduct business in the palace and easier to find them.

It would be perfectly reasonable for the people of the royal palace to have contact with the holy son of the temple without arousing suspicion, and this was exactly what Bertias was planning.

The king was very strong; Bertias sensed it the first time they met, as if he could see right through the king, making him hesitant to act rashly. Although he now lived in the palace, he was still under the king's watchful eye, and he wouldn't act rashly until he had completely gained the king's trust.

Lin Ya snorted coldly, turning his head slightly to reveal his handsome and flawless profile. "Since the King believes you have no problem, as your subordinate, I naturally won't contradict the King's decision. However, if I discover that you have betrayed the King in the slightest, I will be the first to kill you."

“You are indeed very loyal, but I think you can’t do that. After all, the king saved me from the arena, so my loyalty naturally belongs to the king,” Bertias chuckled, his words carrying a hidden meaning.

Lin Ya was the king's most trusted priest, possessing formidable strength and being his most loyal subordinate. Such a person would never easily betray the king, but Bertias, having grown up amidst sordid emotions, had an extremely accurate grasp of human weaknesses.

Sometimes, the more loyal a person is, the easier it is for them to betray you, as long as you add a seemingly casual but actually important detail.

If Lin Ya is considered a loyal minister, then Bertias is an absolute traitor, and a complete fraud with absolutely no loyalty whatsoever.

"Are you looking for someone?" Lin Ya asked casually as he walked ahead.

"How so?" Bertias paused for a moment, then chuckled.

"When you first appeared, you looked somewhat lost, glancing around as if searching for something," Lin Ya said coldly, pausing slightly in his steps.

Bertias raised an eyebrow, showing no sign of panic, and chuckled, "Aren't you blind? How do you know so much?"

Lin Ya turned his head slightly to look at Bertias. His handsome and flawless face appeared even more mysterious due to the black cloth covering his eyes, which contained a hint of bewitching charm.

His deep, pleasant voice carried a hint of displeasure as he said, "Who told you I'm blind?"

"Huh?" Bertias blinked, surprised. "Isn't that right? After all, you're blindfolded. Even if you're not blind, you're practically the same as blind, since you're not using your eyes anyway."

“My eyes bring curses, everyone fears me, only the king will not despise me…” Lin Ya said in a low voice, his tone tinged with disappointment, before returning to his original indifferent demeanor in the next second.

Cursed eyes?

That's quite an interesting way of putting it.

Bertias narrowed his eyes slightly. Upon closer inspection, a golden sun totem appeared in his blue-gray left eye. It was the totem of his status as the crown prince, and the symbol of the only privilege he still possessed in this instance.

“Perhaps we’ll look alike? My eyes are cursed too.” Bertias chuckled, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.

Beckham is very good at acting, seamlessly switching between real and fake.
