Ke-style law enforcement officers

Chapter 131 Missing Persons List

Chapter 131 Missing Persons List
"After leaving the law enforcement headquarters, I met an old beggar on the road. I gave her some food, and she said that someone was chasing me. She even said that she would set dogs on me, so I was delayed on the road. That's what happened."

This is Milo's report to his superior, Rebecca, after returning to the South City Law Enforcement Office.

"Highly credible."

This is old Theon's assessment.

"..." (rolls eyes)

This is Rebecca's response.

...

Criminal Investigation Department Office.

"I heard you and our boss were both injured. Aren't you going to ask for leave?"

Old Theon, as always, sat at his desk puffing on his cigarette, and pointed to Milo's desk, saying to him, "You've received several letters while you were on your mission these past few days."

"You said it yourself, the boss was also injured, and she didn't even get a day off, how could I dare to?"

Milo glanced at the signatures on the several envelopes on the table.

Several of the letters were tax lists and insurance records from government departments, while another was from the West City Enforcement Office, signed by Colin Silva.

He's the second-place finisher in this year's law enforcement assessment, the college graduate with countless female admirers.

Milo tore open the envelope, glanced at it quickly, and looked up at old Theon:
Why did the Western Law Enforcement Bureau invite me to a meeting?

“You mean Charles Winton?” Old Theon raised an eyebrow.

“Oh yes, he was my examiner back then.” Milo nodded.

“I heard he really wanted to get you into the West City Police Department back then, and he even had a big fight with Rebecca over it.” Old Theon stroked his graying stubble and shook his head. “I don’t know. My advice is that it’s necessary for colleagues within the law enforcement system to build relationships with each other, but there’s no need to get too close to Charles. He’s a bit complicated.”

"I understand."

Milo stuffed the letter back into the envelope.

I casually opened another envelope.

To be precise, this shouldn't be considered a letter, but rather a written document with a golden tree totem printed on the cover.

Milo had already guessed who wrote the letter before even opening it, since he only knew one person in the church.

……

The handwriting on the neatly folded paper was very beautiful.

The church clerk, De Lachau, simply expressed his invitation to Milo, essentially saying that there were still some details he needed to know about the previous totem incident.

According to Dirac, he was also searching for the whereabouts of the missing totem.

Back then, Milo had suspected that he might be the doctor behind the serial killers, but now Milo is almost certain that Raven could not be Dillash.

However, whether they are actually working together remains to be seen.

Therefore, Milo will not respond to this invitation in the short term.

If Raven already knew three years ago that the psychic was communicating with him through the dying Karl, then he must have been searching for the psychic's whereabouts for the past three years.

Milo needs to be good at hiding himself.

After all, the witch had already described how psychics interact—it's a matter of life and death.

……

The last envelope was from the Sherman family. It contained no written instructions, only a gold-edged card with a special coat of arms.

"Wow, the top-tier VIP card from the Pleasure House. Only twenty P guests in the entire city of Nanwei possess this thing." The sharp-eyed old Theon immediately recognized what Milo was holding.

“Yan should like this thing.” Milo tossed the card into his pocket.

He then tidied up the small stack of religious documents on the table, intending to stuff all the scraps of paper into the drawer.

He reached under the desk and tugged at the drawer, only to find it locked. He'd completely forgotten where he'd put the key. If he remembered correctly, it was always in the pen holder, but it was empty right now.

Have you seen my drawer key?

"No," Old Theon replied calmly, exhaling a puff of smoke toward the ceiling.

……

Just as Milo started rummaging through the desk, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a strange shadow flashing by the foot of the desk. He initially thought it was Old Theon getting up and walking around the office, but when he looked up, he found that Old Theon was still sitting in the same spot.

Just as I was wondering what that fleeting shadow was, I looked again.

"Oh, so this is where it is."

The drawer key was lying right next to the table leg on the floor.

Maybe it was rubbed off the table at some point.

Milo didn't think much of it, bent down to pick up the key, opened the drawer, and stuffed all the things in the way on the table into it, out of sight, out of mind.

After tidying up, Milo sat down in his seat. He couldn't help but glance at the foot of the desk to roughly determine the main light source in the office, but the light from that spot mainly came from the reflection of sunlight from outside the window onto the glass of the bookshelves inside.

If anything could cast a shadow at the corner of a desk, it would have to fly across the inside of the office, which is impossible.

So Milo could only assume that the strange dark shadow he had just glimpsed was just his imagination.

However, it's normal to have blurred vision.

He lay in bed for thirty hours straight, and then went nearly twenty hours without closing his eyes. With this incredible work-rest schedule, nothing he saw was surprising.

……

With less than half a day left, Milo planned to go to the medical room to change the dressing on his shoulder wound, then apply for two more sets of new law enforcement uniforms. After dawdling a bit, it should be almost time to get off work.

If it weren't for his shoulder injury, Milo might have chosen to run a couple of laps to see if the witch's blood was actually effective. After all, the witch's claim that the aftereffects of his illness had disappeared was just that—a claim Milo needed to verify.

However, it's worth mentioning that Milo is indeed no longer experiencing a headache at this moment.

"I hope she wasn't lying."

If the witch was a fraud, Milo hoped that her later claims about the hounds were also made up.

……

"I heard you've been keeping an eye on a case lately. Is there anything I need to know?"

Milo asked old Theon.

The latter glanced at Milo and muttered, "Never mind, you should focus on healing your injuries first. My matters aren't urgent."

"I heard it's about these colleagues in our office whom we've never met?" Milo probed.

"You've heard quite a lot, did Nero tell you or Rebecca tell you?" Old Theon scoffed.

"I just overheard it."

Milo made a casual remark, and seeing that Theon didn't intend to explain further, he didn't press the matter any further.

He sat in his seat for a while, thinking things through.

In the end, we decided to put the matter of changing the dressing on hold for now.

Milo reopened the desk drawer, pulled out the envelope from Enforcer Colin, carefully read the address mentioned in the letter, then put the letter away, put on his mask, and left the office.

It wasn't to improve relationships with colleagues.

It was because Colin mentioned something at the end of the letter that Milo couldn't understand.

It mentions a "list of missing law enforcement officers".
