Ke-style law enforcement officers

Chapter 123 Return to Chapter

Chapter 123 Return
It's time to come.

Throughout the entire process, Milo believed that all his combat decisions had been very conservative, because he knew very well that his physical condition did not allow him to engage in prolonged strenuous exercise, and he would never use a knife if he could resolve a situation with a gun.

But in the end, he couldn't escape fainting.

The good news is that Mogot was beside him before he collapsed.

The bad news is that Mogot has some mental issues.

……

If it weren't for the need to recover from the aftereffects of being a voyeur, Milo wouldn't have risked returning to the desolate mountains.

What truly terrified him was not the cannibalistic worshippers or the mixed-race people, but his own mind, which inexplicably fell into the memories of the dead, and his body, which refused high-intensity exercise.

If this aftereffect cannot be resolved, Milo feels that he will only be able to play the role of a submissive person lying in bed for the rest of his life, cough cough.

Of course, this is only a relatively acceptable result.

Oh right, and there's another good news: he's already gotten his hands on the Holy Communion that the Red Witch demanded.

After the town of Ikham was brought under complete control by the local law enforcement forces in Galid, the curse case that had lasted for more than a century was essentially brought to a less than satisfactory conclusion.

The pilgrims fell apart.

After Milo dissected the remains of the old god from the altar, the worshippers became like madmen who had lost their minds. Without the guidance of whispers, they became true walking corpses.

And before dawn, they all returned to dust.

The hunt in the jungle ended with the capture of the hybrid creature.

When the Galid Enforcement Agency arrived in the desolate mountain area, all that remained in the jungle was the devastation left after the battle.

As for the fire in the town, it burned until the next morning before it was completely extinguished.

Thick smoke billowed into the distant horizon.

The fighting that lasted all night turned the already dilapidated town into complete ruins. The survivors were still shaken and unable to recover from the horror of their encounter with the crazed worshippers the night before.

Throughout the entire Ikham region, only the crystal orchids hidden among the weeds in the desolate mountains and streams remained serene, unaffected by the bloody battle in the dark night.

……

Neither Rebecca nor Milo expected that this nominal patrol mission would cause such a stir. Even more unexpectedly, the turmoil ended so "hastily".

When Milo recovered from his coma and opened his eyes, he found that he was no longer surrounded by the dilapidated buildings of the town of Icam.

At this moment, he was lying on the bed in the clean and tidy reception room.

His upper body was bare, the wound on his shoulder had been stitched up and bandaged, and the weapon pouch on his body was placed on the bedside table.

Aside from feeling a heaviness in his head and his nasal cavity filled with dried blood, Milo did not experience any other noticeable discomfort.

He sat up and saw Rebecca standing by the window.

The latter was facing away from Milo, calmly gazing at the street outside the window.

"It was Mogot who brought you back."

She knew Milo was awake.

He turned around and tossed a clean shirt in front of Milo:

"If we feel alright, we should head back."

"So urgent?" Milo caught the shirt and stood up. "This should be the city of Galid, right? What happened in the town?"

“The town is under lockdown, and you’ve been lying here for 30 hours,” Rebecca reminded him. “That long?” Milo pulled up his pants. “No wonder I felt so bloated; I need to go relieve myself.”

……

...

Ten minutes later.

The two met in the reception lobby.

"So what happened in the end? What happened to those cannibalistic pilgrims? Were the Solomon gang members caught? Is Mogot alright?" Milo asked Rebecca while stuffing some snacks he had taken from the room into his mouth.

Milo thought he would face a fierce battle after waking up.

Who would have thought that this trip would take thirty hours straight, and by then the daylily would have gone cold.

The first thing he knows now is where that hybrid ended up.

But it's a pity...

Rebecca shook her head:
"I searched the area around Icam with the local law enforcement officers, but we didn't see the monster again. The Solomon Gang's mining company members have all disappeared. None of the strange men who broke into the town survived until the next day. Their bodies have all been taken away by the law enforcement's forensic department, but..."

"But what?"

“The local law enforcement team doesn’t seem willing to tell us much. I originally planned to stay in Iqlam to continue the investigation, but they blocked the area and refused me entry.”

"Not very friendly, is it?" Milo muttered.

“They probably think we messed things up, but since we were following orders from higher-ups this time, the Galid law enforcement officers don’t seem inclined to pursue the matter. It seems their attitude is clear: they don’t want to get involved in the mess in Icam. By the way, I spoke with Nero. He wants us to return as soon as possible. He needs our firsthand information to report on the case. The higher-ups are very concerned about this.” Rebecca gestured for Milo to eat faster.

"So the law enforcement system isn't a monolithic entity either," Milo said sarcastically.

Rebecca did not respond to this.

She then said:
"I've brought back your equipment and luggage. Take half an hour to pack. If everything is alright, catch the next train. It's 5 p.m. now. If all goes well, we should be back in Nanwei City by noon tomorrow."

“It seems Nero is really in a hurry.” Milo raised an eyebrow.

He stuffed all the snacks and biscuits on the plate into his mouth, then turned and went back to his room to pack his gear and luggage.

But then he turned around and suddenly asked Rebecca a question:
"By the way, what was Nero's surname again?"

"Drapal, what's wrong?" Rebecca replied without hesitation.

She didn't quite understand Milo's strange question.

"Oh, it's nothing, just curious." Milo didn't ask any further questions, but nodded thoughtfully and returned to his room.

……

After he finished packing his equipment and luggage, put his weapon bag in his pocket, and confirmed that the revolver and Boyce knife were in good condition, he carried his suitcase back to the lobby downstairs and found that Rebecca was accompanied by a familiar figure.

"?"

Milo blinked.

Rebecca reached out and patted the girl's head beside her, calmly explaining to Milo:

"I forgot to tell you, Kai is coming back to Nanwei City with us."

Standing next to Rebecca was the survivor—Kay.
