Chapter 636 Meat
Chapter 636 Meat
“I am always afraid of the dark, but the darkness will not stop coming just because I am afraid. Once you are attached to fear, you can never get rid of it.”
"Perhaps it is because of my weakness that fear has found a breeding ground. I shouldn't have been like this before; at least I wouldn't have hated and been afraid of such emotions so much."
Han Fei pulled the pet shop owner in front of him and spoke his mind.
The somewhat harsh-looking man was dumbfounded. He had no idea what Han Fei was talking about and could only nod repeatedly.
"Don't call the police. I owe you the medical bills, and I borrowed the phone. I'll return it to you." Han Fei remained very polite throughout. "If there's any damage, I'll compensate you for it at the original price."
"It's yours, consider it a gift to make friends. I genuinely think those who rescue stray animals are amazing. Anyone who rescues animals gets a 20% discount at my shop." The harsh man seemed to have become less harsh.
"Thank you." Han Fei said sincerely, then let go of her hand and slowly backed away. The shop owner's heart sank back into his stomach as Han Fei left.
"If you may, I'd like to ask you another question." Han Fei's voice came from the shop entrance, startling the shop owner.
"what is the problem?"
"From the moment we met until now, what kind of person do you think I am?" Han Fei forgot about himself, so he wanted to use other people's eyes as a mirror.
"He has a loving heart, he has compassion, he has..." The shop owner couldn't come up with anything else.
"Just tell me the truth, tell me your first impression and feelings."
"At first glance, you seem quite sunny, the kind of person who's easy to bully and not very talkative. But after getting to know you, I found you to be a very... special person." The shop owner was sarcastic and mean, a bully who preyed on the weak and feared the strong, and he was very good at tailoring his treatment to different people.
"Special?" Han Fei shook his head: "Thank you for the cat food."
Han Fei put the stray cat in his bag, walked out of the pet store, turned off the owner's phone and hid it somewhere, then walked in the opposite direction.
"My phone could be tracked, so I can't use it carelessly." Han Fei silently pondered where he should go next: "This world is full of hostility towards me. Only that woman thinks I'm pretty good. Unfortunately, I wasn't clear-headed this morning, and time was too tight, so I didn't ask many questions clearly."
Han Fei didn't know the other party's contact information, only providing an address.
“If she really cares about me, she might come looking for me. I can’t be too far from that neighborhood. It would be best to find a high point where I can see the neighborhood and keep an eye on it at all times.”
Han Fei deliberately chose to walk along the side streets without surveillance cameras. At the end of the alley, he saw a small fast food restaurant.
This shop usually does pretty good business, but today the owner seems to be having a run of bad luck. Two groups of young men, each holding a wooden stick, are sitting in the shop, facing each other. They seem to be local thugs.
Han Fei hadn't eaten much all day, and his body was extremely weak. If this continued, he wouldn't be able to run very far before collapsing.
The air was filled with the rich aroma of meat, and the freshly cooked braised dishes in the small shop made Han Fei stop in his tracks.
"Meat?"
Han Fei himself didn't understand why the aroma of meat had such a strong attraction for him.
“I ate two meals at that house, both of which were vegetarian. The person who claimed to be my mother also said that eating meat would not help my recovery. They seemed to be strictly controlling my diet.”
As these thoughts popped into his mind, Han Fei entered the small restaurant. Starving and seemingly having not eaten meat in a long time, he was a little out of control.
Two groups of thugs were talking, and a fight could break out at any moment. Just as the tension was about to escalate, a person suddenly appeared at the door.
Both sides looked at Han Fei, thinking he was the one on the other side, and neither of them spoke.
After losing his memory, Han Fei began to follow his instincts.
Driven by the aroma of meat, he found a corner seat and sat down. Everyone else was talking about business, but he was the only one who started ordering.
Han Fei's idea was actually quite simple: if the two groups of thugs started fighting in the shop, the freshly cooked braised pork would likely fall and go to waste, so he might as well eat it himself. If the two groups didn't fight, he could finish eating and run away, putting the bill on the two groups of thugs first, and paying them back later when he had the money.
This was a chance to have a good meal, and Han Fei was determined to seize it.
Han Fei called out the waiter hiding in the kitchen and pointed to the large plate of braised meat: "Bring it over here."
The waiter was confused as to why the banquet had suddenly started. Although he was puzzled, he still listened to Han Fei's advice.
Both groups mistook Han Fei for the person on the other side. What normal customer would come in at this time and calmly order food?
The fragrant meat and vegetables were placed in front of Han Fei, and his long-suppressed instincts finally erupted.
Reaching out, Han Fei grabbed a piece of meat and took a big bite.
The aroma of meat wafted between his lips and teeth, and Han Fei's pupils slowly contracted. In his memory, meat was extremely important to him.
"It's like I just remembered something? I absolutely love eating meat dishes cooked by one person!"
His last shred of reason was quickly overwhelmed by hunger. Han Fei's eating manner was somewhat frightening, even bordering on madness.
It felt like someone who had been thirsty in the desert for days suddenly saw a clear stream, rushed to the stream, and drank the sweet water with gusto.
The aroma of meat seemed to awaken the monster residing within Han Fei's body; he chewed and swallowed without stopping.
The two groups of thugs licked their lips as they watched the bones slowly rise on their plates.
Is it really that delicious?
The leader of the gang showed a hint of displeasure. He slammed his fist on the table and yelled a few words at the other side. The other group of thugs ignored the leader's words and even went to provoke him.
The verbal conflict quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with both sides overturning tables and grabbing chairs and sticks to fight.
Completely captivated by the meat, Han Fei did not intervene. His eating became increasingly frantic, as if he were starving, roughly stuffing the meat into his mouth.
The waiters and chefs standing in the kitchen were trembling with fear. It was already terrifying enough that two groups of thugs had disrupted their business, but now there was this strange man at a table very close to them. They were too afraid to go out now.
"Swallowing meat can make me forget my pain and stop me from being afraid. I can actually get pleasure from eating meat. What a perverted hobby!"
Han Fei discovered that his digestive ability was extremely strong. His weak body was slowly recovering, and his muddled mind was gradually becoming clearer.
"A serial killer who is obsessed with meat, finds pleasure in swallowing it, and even writes his crimes into scripts and diaries—just how terrifying and horrible am I?"
Holding the meat in both hands, Han Fei protected the plate: "The doctor and my parents said I have paranoia, but I'm sitting in this chaotic place, where I could be beaten up at any moment, yet I feel no fear at all! I'm not afraid of these people; I'm afraid of certain specific things!"
With his thoughts becoming clearer, Han Fei recalled everything that had happened since he opened his eyes, and a detail that was easily overlooked became the breakthrough point.
"When I first came out of the hospital, I was terrified that the high-speed fan above my head would fall, so I hid under the hospital bed. It was a really silly thing to do, but after I went downstairs, I clearly heard a sound coming from the fourth floor! It sounded like the fan had fallen!"
Bloodshot veins appeared in Han Fei's eyes as he chewed the meat in his mouth fiercely: "Those things that terrify me could actually kill me! This isn't paranoia; I must have gained the ability to foresee death!"
Crazy people, crazy ideas, crazy actions.
Han Fei's eyes were less blank. He still couldn't remember the past, but as he continued to eat, his bodily functions were rapidly recovering.
"I feel much less weak now, which is probably due to two reasons: eating meat and vomiting up the food that middle-aged woman made for me."
There was definitely poison in the food. Han Fei felt that the couple had deliberately made him so weak.
“They want to control me, to ‘heal’ or to destroy me in their own way.”
"If I really am a serial killer, then they do have a reason to do so, since I am really dangerous."
The moment the thought crossed Han Fei's mind, the table in front of him was overturned, and a thug with a buzz cut fell to the ground in front of him, spilling a plate full of meat onto the floor.
His pupils shrank to almost a point, and Han Fei grabbed the thug with both hands. The bloodshot eyes of the thug were incredibly eerie.
Breathing heavily through his nose, Han Fei ultimately didn't make a move; instead, he walked towards the kitchen.
Exuding a menacing aura, the chefs and waiters all retreated when they saw the gluttonous monster approaching; they had never seen such a diner before.
"Is there any more meat?"
"Yes, there's still some in the pot!" The chef quickly opened the pot lid.
Smelling the aroma of meat, Han Fei forgot everything else and went over to continue eating.
Seeing that Han Fei didn't take him seriously, the thug who had just fallen down grabbed a stick from the ground and crept closer. But just as he raised the stick to attack the back of Han Fei's neck, Han Fei, who was chewing on meat, turned his head away.
That thug could swear he saw the most terrifying eyes in the world—bloody, cruel, those eyes seemed to belong to a demon who had just crawled out of hell.
Han Fei didn't say a word, but the thug who wanted to ambush him seemed to understand Han Fei's meaning. It seemed that if he took one more step forward, it wouldn't be pork that was put into the pot to be stewed, but himself.
"So it's one of our own?" The thug with the buzz cut turned and rushed outside. He shouted loudly, but he only stood on the outer edge, seemingly still not recovered from the shock.
The two groups of thugs fought their way from the store onto the street, making a huge commotion. Han Fei estimated the time and felt that the police were about to arrive, so he didn't linger, picked up his bag, and ran.
After consuming large amounts of meat, his speed noticeably increased, and his body, damaged by the drugs, seemed to be slowly healing itself.
As he entered the alley, Han Fei heard police sirens not far in, and he immediately quickened his pace.
Han Fei was guided by his body's instincts; he seemed to be particularly good at hide-and-seek, always managing to evade police searches.
Hiding here and there, as night slowly fell, Han Fei's sense of panic returned.
"Why does this happen at night? I always feel like death is very close to me."
Not daring to stay in the alley any longer, Han Fei looked around and every building seemed like a haunted house, shrouded in an lingering eerie aura.
"Is there really nowhere in this city where I can hide? Tonight is going to be tough."
