Chapter 1520 Ending
"Ah chirp!"

The heavy steel door slowly opened to both sides. The smell of gunpowder mixed with smoke and dust made Sonny Quinn sneeze several times. This also made him change his original intention of rushing in and retreat sideways.

Jason Hayes leaned against the door, covered his mouth and nose, and looked inside the "PEOC". He could vaguely see the bodies lying all over the ground, which made his heart tighten.

Fortunately, the fully operational ventilation system quickly carried away the pervasive smoke, clearing the seals' vision.

Jason breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the figure busy in front of the server with his back to the door, and quickly waved to his teammates to follow.

The difference between offensive grenades and defensive grenades is that the former does not rely on fragmentation for killing, so its kill radius is smaller. After throwing them, you can launch an attack directly without worrying about friendly fire.

However, even offensive grenades that rely on shockwaves for killing are still quite dangerous to use indoors; one wrong move and you could easily get yourself killed.

However, Jack didn't have a good solution. Although performing bullet-resistant maneuvers was very impressive, he could have used a healing spell on himself to let the bullet slowly be squeezed out of the healing wound, which would have been quite visually striking.

But this is not a good time to cosplay the liquid metal robot from the Terminator series. The feeling of being hit by a 12.7mm machine gun bullet at the White House front gate was not pleasant.

There were more than a dozen armed men who obeyed Mais, while the South Korean agents he was impersonating numbered only four, including himself.

If the other party ever comes to their senses, being riddled with holes is a completely literal description.

This is not the time to worry about the safety of the hostages. If he can't calm the people inside and open that security door that is supposed to withstand the power of a nuclear explosion, they will all die anyway.

So, taking advantage of the brief moment when Kate was helping to play the general's special background music to attract attention, Jack threw out two grenades to strike first.

The shockwave from the explosion was incredibly effective in a confined space. Even though he had prepared in advance, Jack, who was lying on the ground beforehand, still couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of blood because of the close proximity.

Next came individual showcases; most of the stunned terrorists died without ever figuring out where the attack came from.

Fortunately, the space inside PEOC was large enough, and Jack deliberately controlled the direction of the explosion, so the staff and White House personnel who were tied to the control panel railings were only stunned by the shock wave.

These people are all key witnesses.

Although Maes initially pretended to be kidnapped and even dramatically endured a beating, he only reluctantly handed over the Cerberus code when the "terrorists" threatened the lives of others.

But the president's behavior at the last moment truly shocked everyone; it turned out that it was all just a "farce" he had orchestrated himself.

For Jack, the mystery was also revealed in the conversation between Max and Collier.

The "Aurora Project" initially had only eight insiders, but everyone overlooked one thing: all the presidents in the past must have known about this secret project.

Unfortunately, because someone threw a grenade with perfect accuracy, the instantly killed Max was unable to explain how he helped Collier take control of "Desima" and how he used the Department of Defense's resources to complete the development of "Samaritan".

Including why he caused so much trouble, and what his real purpose was.
From Vance's brief exchange with Collier, Jack could probably guess that Vance wanted to break free from the constraints of Parliament, seize more power, and even use the "Samaritans" to construct a so-called "ultimate society."

But all these speculations became a permanent mystery with the death of Max.

Fortunately, everything related to the president's death in this country is a mystery, so one more won't make a difference.

Jack doesn't even need to worry about whether there are any secret forces lurking behind this ambitious president.

Because with the fire at the Capitol, most of the pieces on the country's power chessboard were swept away, and it is said that even the chairman of the Federal Reserve was not spared. It can be called the most devastating catastrophe in the country's upper political circles in nearly 300 years.

As Jack pulled out the last server hard drive and smashed it on the ground, the large screen facing the command console dimmed slightly, displayed a ":)" emoticon, and then shut down completely.

Jason Hayes signaled his team to check on the hostages, while he himself went to Jack and carefully examined his injuries.

Fortunately, although the person looked covered in blood and dirt, and their clothes were torn to shreds, most of their injuries were only superficial.

Jason pulled two cigars, each wrapped in an aluminum tube, from his breast pocket, poured one out and flicked it to Jack, then gestured with his eyes to the pile of rotten flesh in the middle of the hall.

Although he didn't say anything, the questioning look in his eyes was very obvious.

Jack caught the cigar, used one hand to support himself as he slowly slid down, finally sitting on the ground with his back against the control panel. He lit the cigar, slowly exhaled a smoke ring, and then revealed a wry smile.

"Would you believe me if I said the president previously attempted a coup?"

Jason clearly hadn't heard of the "Why is Your Majesty rebelling?" joke, and gave him a look that said, "Are you serious?"

"We'll talk later, we'll talk later." Jack waved his hand weakly. Tonight had been far too exciting, and the aftereffects he hadn't experienced in a long time were starting to stir again. He could only feign exhaustion, at least his posture wouldn't give him away for now.

"Jack!" David Rossi's slightly unsteady figure appeared at the door. The old man had stayed up all night, and his face looked a little pale, but he couldn't hide the excitement in his eyes.

Two lithe figures flashed out from beside Rossi and rushed towards the person who looked extremely disheveled.

"I'm fine, hey, be gentle, be gentle." Jack, with a cigar in his mouth, was helped up by Hannah and JJ, who each supported his shoulders, looking every bit the smug winner.

Rossi glanced at the chaotic scene and was somewhat surprised to find that Yin Kaka and his silicone-like wife were still alive, albeit unconscious.

After confirming that the two men still had vital signs, two soldiers wearing Red Cross armbands called for a stretcher to be brought forward. They immediately administered a sedative to each man, covered their heads with black cloths, and carried the two half-dead men out of the PEOC.

As for the pile of rotten flesh in the center of the hall, Rossi's eyes twitched slightly when she saw it, but she looked at the former "First Lady" who had been slit in the throat with pity.

While Jack infiltrated PEOC, Maureen and Zoe inside the Pentagon also relayed the intelligence to the command center at the front.

Compared to Jack, who was indifferent to politics, Rossi was not particularly surprised that President Mayer was actually the mastermind behind it all.

His only worry now is that his succession plan is likely to fall apart, and Jack probably won't be able to continue working at the FBI.

Having personally killed the country's president, for whatever reason, it's safe to say that this guy won't have a peaceful life for a long time to come.
-
One day later.

"What grenade? I don't know. I just felt it was an opportunity after the explosion, so I acted decisively. I don't know who suddenly threw the explosive. Did anyone see it?"

Lying in his hospital bed, Jack crunched on a peeled apple, giving Rosie an innocent look.

The old man stared at the guy with a strange expression, and after a long while, he managed to utter a single word, "No."

Everyone present was distracted by the commotion Kate made, and no one actually saw Jack throw the two grenades.

In other words, these survivors had no idea what happened during that time, or even that Jack existed.

All the terrorists with weapons at the scene were dead, killed by Jack's gun. Only the president's body, which was blown to pieces, had no bullet holes.

Rossi took a deep breath and watched as Jack devoured the apple in a few bites, leaving only the core, and casually tossed it into the trash can by the door. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.

"So do you think it's possible that it was just an accident? After all, when Max ordered the cover-up, it's not impossible that a quick-thinking South Korean agent might have risked his life to throw out two grenades. What do you think?"

Jack winked slyly at the old man.

He had already decided that he would never admit that Miles died at his hands.

Although more than one person at the scene could testify that Max killed his wife with his own hands and intended to kill the others to silence them, the world has never lacked fanatical people who love conspiracy theories.

Even if the documents are declassified in the future, and the interrogation video in which Yin Kaka personally recounts how he was "bewitched" by Mais is made public, there will still be people who believe that Mais is innocent.

There are some things you should avoid if you can. As long as the old buddies of SEAL Team B don't betray you, this little secret will never be known to the world.
-
Three months later.

The ruins on Capitol Hill have been cleared, but the debate continues online about whether to rebuild it exactly as it was or to create a new Capitol building in a different style, like the Twin Towers that collapsed years ago.

Inside the newly renovated White House, two furtive figures were sneaking into the Oval Office one after the other.

"Isn't it a bit inappropriate to do this?" Jack asked helplessly, his hand being held by Maureen.

Although it was already night, and the Secret Service agents nearby had been reassigned by the president under some pretext, the risk of being discovered was still very high.

"Enough with the nonsense." The president suddenly pushed Jack down into the only chair behind the large desk, then sat down herself.

"Don't tell me you've never thought of that."

"That's true."

"Stop talking nonsense, kiss me."
