Chapter 1498 Chaos in the Special Zone (Part 4)

Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland is the closest air force base to Washington state. The 316th Squadron, also known as the Washington, D.C. Air Force, is stationed there and is responsible for the security of the president's daily helicopter travel.

The presidential aircraft, Air Force One, belongs to the 89th Airlift Wing located here.

Upon receiving notification of an aerial threat to Washington, D.C., two F-16 fighter jets belonging to the 113th Wing of the D.C. Air National Guard were immediately deployed to the runway.

At this moment, no one knows where the AC130U took off from or how it managed to evade radar detection and appear over the Special Administrative Region.

But that was no longer important. In just a few minutes, the White House had been attacked, and the entire city was in complete chaos.

The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. is probably the police department with the most manpower in the United States, although they only have more than 4000 officers, which seems to be in a completely different league from the NYPD's more than 3 officers.

But New York City has a population of over 800 million, while the District of Columbia has a population of only 70.

In addition to the Metropolitan Police Department, the area surrounding the District of Columbia is also home to numerous federal law enforcement agencies. Besides the FBI headquarters located in the Hoover Institution, there are also many military and police forces, including the Secret Service and the National Guard.

However, it must be said that this seemingly far-fetched attack by the mysterious force struck the Federation squarely where it was weak.

Just as no one expected that someone would use a passenger plane to carry out a terrorist attack during 9/11, no one would have thought that the AC-130, a ground attack aircraft used by large countries to bully small countries that lack air superiority, would one day be used to attack the White House.

The chaotic sirens wailed throughout the Special Economic Zone, and a group of tourists and passersby stared blankly at the sky, questioning their existence, still not understanding what had happened.

Jack stopped the car and leaned out the window, watching the huge thing in the sky make a wide bend along the Potomac River, flying slowly but actually fast over the Lincoln Memorial, its fuselage tilting slowly again.

On the map, the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol Building are on the same straight line, one to the west and one to the east. The White House is directly north of this line, and the point where the two intersect perpendicularly is the Washington Monument, the tallest building in the entire District of Columbia.

All of the AC130's weapons are mounted on the left side of the fuselage. Therefore, when launching a ground attack on a target, it must rotate counterclockwise in a circular motion and tilt the fuselage to obtain a better attack angle, thus forming a cone-shaped fire output channel, known as the "flame cone".

At this moment, the white house was located at the bottom center of this "fire cone," but it was clear that the other side did not intend to directly bombard the building. Not only were the 105mm howitzers silent, but the 40mm machine guns were also not used much.

After clearing out the Secret Service sniper team on the rooftop, AC130 seemed to lose interest in the White House and continued to unleash its firepower on the streets and buildings along the way in an attempt to create even greater chaos.

The Smithsonian Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the National Academy of Sciences, and a host of federal government buildings were all hit by several 40mm shells in the attack, and thick smoke billowed into the sky everywhere.

Even with its abundant police force, the Hong Kong police were thrown into chaos by the extent of the damage. Not to mention, the sheer number of fires alone meant that firefighters and ambulances couldn't keep up with the demand.

At this point, less than 6 minutes had passed since the gunships launched their first wave of attacks.

"Kate, can you help me plan a safe route?" Jack was extremely anxious as the AC130 flew over the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial and headed towards Capitol Hill, its fuselage tilting slightly.

"Wait a minute, Jack, the Air Force is here." Before Kate could finish speaking, several white streaks suddenly appeared in the sky.

The AC130 once again unleashed a spectacular wall of fire-like thermal bait, but this time the effect was clearly less than ideal.

At least two air-to-air missiles successfully hit the tail and belly of the behemoth. It was as if an invisible hand in the void pressed down hard, and the huge fuselage suddenly sank downwards, with the wings almost grazing the spire of the Washington Monument.

However, a dramatic scene unfolded, eliciting gasps of surprise. Although two air-to-air missiles successfully hit their targets, the Air Force fighter jets, which had not yet appeared, launched a total of four missiles in a beyond-visual-range attack. The remaining two air-to-air missiles, chasing after the dropped hot bait and chaff, crashed into the Washington Monument beneath the gunship.

Smoke and dust billowed up instantly, and the sound of explosions was deafening.

As Jack stared in disbelief, the AC130 slowly plummeted to the ground, trailing thick smoke, its destination the Capitol Building perched atop a small hill.

Behind the plane is the Washington Monument, its upper half shattered and its obelisk top crashing heavily to the ground.

Go back a few minutes.

"What on earth is going on outside?" FBI Director Jim Womack, who had just arrived at the Capitol and had not yet entered the Rotunda, grabbed a panicked officer and asked sternly.

The Pentagon major stared blankly at his phone, only snapping out of his daze after Womack repeated the same question several times.

"I'm sorry, sir, I don't know what's going on either. They said an AC-130 is firing at the White House."

Director Womack grabbed the guy by the collar and yelled, spitting in his face, "What are you standing there for? Order an immediate evacuation! Damn it, don't you know that almost all the cabinet ministers and members of both houses are crammed into this damn Capitol building right now?"

Before all these changes occurred, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Al Kleiman, who was chatting with the Director, was probably one of the few relatively calm people present.

The general put away his phone, grabbed the director's wrist tightly, and forced him to loosen his grip on the major's collar.

"Calm down, Wormac. There's a gunship firing indiscriminately at the ground from high above. Any attempt to evacuate is irrational."

You don't think your bulletproof Suburban can stop a 25mm shell falling from the sky, do you?

After General Al Kleiman finished speaking, he patted the major on the shoulder, forcing the panicked man to look him in the eye, and said, “Guide the ministers and members of parliament to take refuge in the escape route first, and be sure to use the tunnel where the radioactive dust shelter is located.”

The major was stunned for a moment before he realized what General Kleiman meant by the tunnel.

There are more than a dozen underground passages of various types on Capitol Hill, including pedestrian, vehicular, and even mini-subway lines for small trains.

These underground passages serve a variety of functions, including large sewers, old-fashioned steam tunnels, and some even resemble underground shopping malls, with shoe stores, post offices, and self-service restaurants along the way.

In addition to serving the Capitol Police and staff responsible for protecting the Capitol, some tunnels are reserved for members of parliament, allowing these distinguished gentlemen to avoid the nagging media.

The escape route General Kleiman referred to was an underground passage connecting the Capitol to Russell Tower, which was designated by the federal government in the 1950s as a special radioactive fallout shelter to avoid a possible Soviet nuclear attack.

This is also the deepest escape route beneath the Capitol Building.

"Yes, General!" The major, regaining his senses, quickly saluted. Just as he was about to accept the order and leave, a strange howling sound came from afar, giving people an extremely ominous feeling.

"What happened?" Director Womack strode to the window and looked out of the building, then froze on the spot.
