American Detective: Starting as a Rookie Cop in an American TV Show
Chapter 1465 Positioning
Chapter 1465 Positioning
“I suspect that Hersh was sent by some secret federal agency to do the cleanup work. He took all the evidence from the scene of Alicia Cowen’s death, including the shell casings, from the agency.”
Fusco's account made Jack look at him with new respect. "How come I never noticed you were so bold before? You actually dared to follow professional agents."
"Because I know what kind of people you guys are, you've already gotten involved in this kind of thing. If I do nothing, I'll still be eliminated as an insider, won't I?" the detective said angrily.
So, in the end, it all comes down to the will to survive, right? Detective "DouDou" perfectly embodies the saying, "A person's potential is limitless."
Jack patted him on the shoulder with a look of approval, "Tell me what you overheard back then?"
"We got a name, Denton Weeks, apparently a very important person. I heard he's missing, and those guys are looking for him everywhere."
Fusco leaned close to Jack mysteriously and said, "The man in the suit went to see your friend in the FBI, and then found out that this Weeks used to be the deputy director of the CIA."
Jack was surprised to find himself actually fooled by this guy.
Although he didn't remember the name Denton Weeks, the position of former CIA deputy director was quite high, which meant that this person was likely one of the people who participated in the "Northern Lights" project.
"Do you know who Hersh's superior is?" Jack asked quickly.
“It wasn’t mentioned in the conversation, but I wrote down that phone number. Your colleague said it was from Fort Meade, Maryland.”
Fort Meade is the NSA headquarters, much like Quantico is to the FBI. In other words, Fusco was tracking an NSA agent who was clearly there for the secret project "The Machine".
"So, can we assume that Root kidnapped Finch and then took Finch to Denton Weeks?"
Jack knew that Root was after the "machine" baby, but she didn't know where the "machine" was located, and neither did Finch.
The entire "Northern Lights" project came to an end after Finch's late friend Nathan sold the "machine" to the NSA for one dollar.
In Jack's memory, the process of having a "machine" provide a "relevant number" and then hand it over to the CIA, FBI, or a special counterterrorism team was considered top secret. It might have had different "code names" when dealing with different implementing units, but the project itself didn't even have a name.
If Root wants to find the "machine" and release it "freedom", it needs at least two conditions.
The person who understands how to "operate" this program, that is, Finch, the creator of the "machine," already possesses this ability.
The next step is to locate the "machine," or rather, the server that runs the "machine."
Denton Weeks wasn't an NSA employee, but as a former CIA deputy director and one of the participants in Project Aurora, he might have been the key insider—at least that's what Gen thought.
"The man in the suit thought the same thing, so he's on his way to find Denton Weeks."
Fusco nodded. "To be precise, it's about finding that guy's mistress, Julie Devonport. I overheard that on the phone." Jack was completely confused. How did another mistress come into the picture?
"After retiring, Weeks continued to work as a consultant in Washington, D.C., but he kept a mistress and would often sneak out to spend time with her."
Jie Jie, who was standing nearby, roughly understood what was going on. "Let me guess, their love nest might just happen to be located near Wheaton, Maryland."
“Yes, so the man in the suit suspects that Gen took Mr. Glasses there.” Fusco glanced at his watch. “He’s been gone for almost an hour.”
"Get me a car, I need to go with them." Jack glanced disdainfully at the plainclothes police car that Frosco had brought to pick them up; it was still that old Ford.
Fusco, looking smug with an air of shrewdness, said, "I knew you'd do this. Danny went to the repair shop to pick up the car for you; judging by the time, it should be here by now."
Before he finished speaking, a deep, powerful engine roared from afar as Jack's brand-new Audi R8 roared onto the airport runway.
As the sports car approached the three of them, it executed a beautiful drift, and as the door opened, Danny's face, flushed with excitement, was revealed. "This thing is really powerful, but it's a pity there aren't enough seats. Linda would never allow me to buy one."
"What a pathetic married middle-aged man," Jack thought to himself, but outwardly remained calm as he suggested, "You could borrow my Firebird from the underground garage and take Linda to Atlantic City for a weekend. Trust me, she won't refuse when we get back."

The repainted supercar is incredibly flashy, with speckled blue starlight in the black paint, seemingly understated yet luxurious.
Jack drove with flashing lights and sirens all the way, practically treating the highway like the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
It wasn't that he was worried about a former CIA agent whose combat effectiveness fluctuated so much being caught off guard by Gen; rather, it was that Alice had just called him, and Finch's location had finally been activated, showing that he was at Pennsylvania Station in Baltimore.
Reese had just arrived at the villa that a former CIA deputy director had bought for his lover. He didn't find Finch, but he did find Weeks' body inside.
Root was as ruthless as ever, shooting him in the heart and then in the chest. Reese judged that Denton Weeks had been tortured for at least a whole night before he died.
Although most American travelers choose to fly, passenger rail services have not been completely abandoned. For example, the famous sightseeing train "California Zephyr" has been running between Chicago and San Francisco since 1983, covering a distance of 2438 miles.
However, since the old railway lines have not yet been electrified, the train locomotives still use diesel-powered internal combustion engines.
The Pennsylvania Station in Baltimore is beautiful, with a retro charm, even the back seats are long, solid wood benches.
When Reese, drenched in sweat, met Jack at the station, his first words were, "The next train is starting boarding in 5 minutes. Damn it, isn't Amtrak supposed to never have punctual passenger trains?"
"Calm down." Jack glanced at his phone screen; Finch's location showed he was still in the station waiting hall. "You should be worried about how to prevent Root from harming Finch or any other innocent people. That woman is capable of anything when she's insane."
Gen was a ruthless person who could use others to kill at the age of 14. Although she was whitewashed in the original series, it does not mean that she has not stained the blood of innocent people. At least Jack cannot be sure yet.
