Chapter 46 Hard Power
Chapter 46 Hard Power
The Ford drove into the Marietta business district, and Martin called Bruce: "Old Bruce?"
Bruce replied unhappily, "What do you want from me?"
Martin said, "Come out to eat at Rosario's Restaurant. It's my treat."
Bruce said bluntly: "I will bankrupt you."
Martin entered the restaurant, found a quiet booth and waited for more than ten minutes. Bruce came in hurriedly and sat opposite him.
The two of them ordered some Mexican-style dishes and talked while eating.
Martin took out a check and pushed it over: "This is for you."
Martin said simply, "I made some money in the Liberty Club, and you did my shitty ass for me, so take it."
Bruce was no longer polite and took the check: "Two months ago, I asked you for a debt. Now I am collecting your payment. Is there something wrong with that?"
"This is the difference between smart people and civilized people. You are just a civilized person, but I am both smart and civilized." Martin ate the black pepper beef slowly and said, "I am not going to be a bartender anymore."
Bruce knew that Martin was only in the Beast House to make money: "It's better not to do it. It's no good to get too involved. If you stay here for a long time, maybe one day you will really accompany me to be a scavenger."
He then asked, "What are you going to do? Become an actor?"
Martin said roughly: "A crew from Hollywood has come. I have secured one of the producers. I should be able to get a role. I need to make some preparations."
Bruce was surprised: "Damn, you sold it to the producer?"
"Wake up, Old Bull, that's what you like to do!" Martin held his head high and said righteously, "I conquered the producer in the audition with my real strength! Hard strength, do you understand?"
Bruce felt that there was something wrong with this, but he couldn't put it into words: "Are you that powerful?"
"Let me tell you about this civilized street sweeper." Martin changed the subject and gave a proper reminder: "Don't die, you stinking piece of shit. I won't go to your funeral."
Bruce was optimistic: "You said that shit and shit can last forever. When you become a big star, I will be your bodyguard."
Martin responded: "That's settled."
After dinner, Bruce went to pick up Monica, and Martin went to the community theater not far away to tell the leader the good news.
In the office, Jerome suppressed his excitement and pretended to be calm and confident: "I haven't even started to work yet, and you've already done it, Martin. You did a great job."
The troupe has Robert Patrick as its lead. Given Martin's current status, he cannot miss any opportunity. "Captain, you don't need to take action on such a small matter."
Jerome thought to himself that even if all the people in the troupe were added together, they would not be as comfortable as Martin. "Well, Martin, I formally nominate you as the deputy director of the troupe."
The head of the group did not mention the remuneration, and Martin did not ask, but simply said, "I'll call you when the crew is auditioning."
Jerome pulled out a few magazines: "Variety and Entertainment Weekly. They have the latest news in the film and television industry. Take them."
Back in the car, Martin took out his phone and prepared to call Vincent Lee, but after thinking it over carefully, he decided it would be better to talk to him in person.
He and Vincent have no conflicts at this stage.
Martin called to ask, drove to the club, went up to the second floor and entered Vincent's office.
"Boss, I got an important role in a Hollywood crew." He explained his purpose directly: "I need to make a lot of preparations, so I won't have time to come over in the evening." Vincent raised his cowboy hat, stared at Martin for a moment, and said: "I'm thinking of raising your salary after these few busy days, and officially become the deputy manager of the club."
Seeing that he had misunderstood, Martin continued, "Boss, this has nothing to do with the position and salary. I have always wanted to be an actor, and this opportunity is very rare."
Vincent was silent for a moment, thinking about how Martin brought in so many customers. All he had to do was hold on to the Liberty Club and keep doing it.
There was not much interest involved between the two sides, so Vincent made a decision: "Martin, the club welcomes you back anytime."
Martin left the office and went to see the accountant Dana to settle this week's salary. When he arrived at the lobby, the handsome boy band was practicing dancing on the stage.
We have been together for many days, and now I am leaving, I have to say goodbye.
Martin pushed the two guys away and said, not kidding, "I just quit."
"Why?" Hart's thoughts raced, and he glared at Carrington. "It's all your fault. Martin's father has always wanted a daughter, and you didn't go for the surgery, disappointing Martin's father!"
Carrington was a little slow to respond: "Aren't you the one doing the surgery?"
Another handsome guy who had been an extra asked, "You want to be an actor?"
Martin nodded slightly.
Martin pointed at these guys and said, "I shouldn't have talked nonsense with you."
After a while of commotion, Martin looked at the time, left the club and returned to Clayton.
There is a noticeable increase in the number of black people around the community.
The spots where white people used to sell grass are now occupied by black people.
Martin pulled into the backyard, picked up the box from the back seat, and went to Carter's house.
As soon as I walked in, I heard Elena’s familiar greeting: “Idiot, didn’t you go to the club?”
“Not for now.” Martin threw the cup to Elena: “I’ll give you one.”
Martin praised: “You are absolutely right!”
He pulled out a chair and sat down, then took out two checks: "This is a gift for you."
Elena looked down and said, “What do you mean, you idiot are going to support me?”
Martin was helpless: "Use your small brain to think about it. Why should I spend money when I can do it for free?"
Elena raised her middle finger.
Martin said, "The payment for the kettle business is one for your labor fee and the other for idiot Lily."
Elena put it away without hesitation: "Don't tell Lily, her idiot doesn't need the money."
After dinner, Martin went back next door and looked through the role script given by Louise and studied it carefully.
No preparation should be omitted.
