Chapter 9 Is Transfiguration Idealistic or Materialistic?
"You said this." Louis put down his knife and fork and said seriously, "You also saw that the hat originally wanted to sort me into Gryffindor, but I seem to have offended him badly, so he played a trick on me like this."
"What did you do to it?" Harry was in high spirits. He wrote down what he wanted to eat on a small card and said with interest, "The Sorting Hat should be easy to talk to. I kept telling it not to go to Slytherin, so it sorted me into Gryffindor. You know, he always thought it was a good idea for me to go to Slytherin."
Louis thought that it was not only good for you to go to Slytherin, you also had the fragment of Voldemort, a holy relic, so you could go to Azkaban. Harry was able to get what he wanted, partly because of his strong desire, and partly because Dumbledore opened a backdoor for him.
After all, although the people of Gryffindor are a little braver and more naughty, they are still much better than those insects of Slytherin.
There was a theory in his previous life that Louis agreed with, which was that Dumbledore intentionally or unintentionally led Harry towards the Weasley family, hoping that the warmth of the Weasley family would prevent Harry from going astray.
It must be said that he also liked the Weasley family very much.
"I said he was dirty." Louis picked up the sausage he had just put down and lied without changing his expression.
"I think so too." Ron shook his red head and laughed in agreement. After laughing for a while, he suddenly said seriously: "Slytherin is full of dark wizards - well, I'm not talking about you, Louis, I'm just worried that you will be bullied by them, or led astray by them."
Louis thought to himself, you’re right. It would be a shame if I didn’t become a dark wizard with my eighteen-point talent in dark magic.
"A philosopher once said that prejudice is further from the truth than ignorance." Louis took a sip of coffee, and the rich bitter aroma refreshed his mind: "There are good people in Slytherin, too, like me."
As he was speaking, he saw the blonde senior girl walk by and sit next to him.
"And this senior sister is also a good person," he added.
The senior student glanced at the freshmen with a cold gaze, and a chill came from within, making everyone shiver. Ron quickly changed the subject: "Ah, who said that you just said? Was it the Muggle Prime Minister?"
"You guessed it right." Louis put down his coffee cup and winked at Ron. "But it's not British."
The first class today was Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class. It was on the right after going up the stairs from the Great Hall to the second floor. Harry and Ron got up early this time to have a heart-to-heart talk with Louis, so they were not late.
Louis was secretly grateful to these two friends in his heart. If it weren't for them, he would probably be the one who was threatened and turned into a pocket watch.
On the podium of the Transfiguration classroom, a silver tabby cat was sitting alone on the podium like a tiger. There was still half an hour before the morning class, and there were not many people in the classroom. The tabby cat saw two little lions from his own house and a little Slytherin snake walking together, and his pupils shrank as if seeing the light.
Louis recognized that it was Professor McGonagall - after all, she had been at home last month. He looked around and sat down in the area belonging to Slytherin House.
Not long after, Malfoy and his two generals walked into the classroom. After exchanging a few words with Louis, they chose to sit next to him.
Professor McGonagall finally arrived after all the students were present. She glanced at Louis indifferently, and then stood on the podium and began to show off her power to the freshmen.
"Transfiguration is the most complex and dangerous spell you will learn at Hogwarts. If anyone acts mischievously in my class, I will ask him to leave and never allow him to come in again. I have warned you."
Louis always felt that she should have added a sentence: "Don't say I didn't warn you." Not to mention, Professor McGonagall was known for her impartiality, and after she frightened the little wizards, they were all trembling.
Then, Professor McGonagall waved her wand, and the podium in front of her suddenly turned into a grunting pig, which kept sniffing the floor left and right beside her, looking very funny.
"Cool." Ron exclaimed sincerely.
Professor McGonagall waved her wand again and turned the pig back onto the podium.
"This is just a small application of Transfiguration," she said. "You still have a long way to go before you learn how to turn objects into living things."
"Professor." Ron raised his hand.
"Mr. Weasley, do you have any questions?" Professor McGonagall noticed Ron's eagerness.
"Professor, I want to know, can the pig that the podium turns into be eaten?"
As soon as Ron finished speaking, the classroom burst into laughter. Ron's cheeks suddenly turned as red as his hair. Malfoy laughed the happiest. He also laughed with Crabbe and Goyle and said that it was probably because the Weasleys couldn't afford pork that he asked this question.
"Silence." Professor McGonagall frowned and tapped the blackboard with her wand, just like a teaching stick. She looked around at the students and said very seriously, "Any items created by the Transfiguration Spell cannot be eaten, and wizards have a time limit for transforming objects. When the Transfiguration Spell attached to an object loses its effect, the object will automatically return to its original form, for example..."
With a flick of her hand, she transformed a piece of chalk into a slug. As her classmates watched, she waved her wand and flung the slug onto the blackboard.
A strange thing happened. The slug instantly turned back into a piece of chalk and fell into the storage layer under the blackboard with a plop.
"When the transformed life form loses its life, the spell will be automatically lifted. In addition, wizards cannot conjure food out of thin air. Even food that is transformed from a physical entity cannot be eaten."
She glanced at the audience and continued, "I know what you are thinking. The food that appeared on the plates in the auditorium during the freshman party yesterday was not conjured up by Professor Dumbledore. Instead, the house-elves at Hogwarts cooked the food and used magic to move it to your plates."
"I understand, professor." A sparse response came from below.
What followed was a long and boring lecture on the basics of Transfiguration. Louis took notes for a long time and discovered that the core idea of Transfiguration was "emphasizing subjective consciousness."
It's not that the Transfiguration Spell is idealistic. The so-called idealism means that consciousness comes first and matter comes second. Consciousness comes first, then matter comes. However, the Transfiguration Spell is about matter first and consciousness comes second. Consciousness cannot produce matter out of thin air, but consciousness can react to matter.
It sounds quite materialistic.
