Chapter 234: Nine-headed snakes all around

Chapter 234: Hydras all around

"Peter, some unfortunate news." When Peter met Chief Garrett this time, the other party handed him the tablet computer with a stern face, "George Stacy has pleaded guilty."

"What?" Peter was shocked. He quickly reached out to take the tablet and clicked on the video. He saw Director Stacy facing the camera in the interrogation room, confessing everything, admitting that he was a member of Hydra and identifying other Hydra members.

Peter's hand trembled and he lost hold of the tablet, letting it fall onto the table, but the sound from the computer still came out clearly.

"You saw it. He admitted it himself, without any torture." Director Garrett patted Peter's shoulder and comforted him, "This is good. At least we don't have to wonder if there are problems with the people who reviewed the evidence."

"There is also good news. Gwen's innocence has been proven. Her father's affairs have nothing to do with her. You can go pick up your girlfriend."

"Also, George Stacy was just a peripheral agent within Hydra and had never committed any major crimes. So he also signed a plea agreement and will not be prosecuted for this, but he can no longer continue to serve as police chief."

Peter came out of Garrett's office with the tablet in his hand and his mind in a fuzzy state, not knowing whether to be happy or sad.

Of course he was happy that Gwen was fine, but Gwen's father confessed his crime himself, which made Peter completely unsure of how to face Gwen.

Moreover, Director Stacy, who always showed integrity and selflessness in front of him, was actually Hydra. This news was completely difficult for Peter to digest. He felt as if all his views had been cleansed.

Peter came to the place where Gwen was imprisoned with a lot on his mind, showed Director Garrett's warrant, and after it was verified online, he successfully brought Gwen out.

After leaving the place of imprisonment, Gwen let out a long breath and said with a smile:
"It is true that only after losing freedom can one know how precious it is. It seems that your previous guess was correct. There is indeed something wrong with those who verified the evidence. Has my father been released as well? Let's go home together and I'll make something delicious for you to taste."

Then she saw Peter's ugly face, her heart sank, and she had a bad premonition.

"What's wrong? Hasn't my dad been released yet? And what about Uncle Ben and Aunt May?"

"It's just that your suspicion has been cleared, but Uncle Ben and Aunt May haven't..." Peter hesitantly said.

"How could this happen?" Gwen's delicate eyebrows immediately frowned. "S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efficiency is too poor. I always feel that I can't trust them."

Peter's eyes wandered, not daring to meet Gwen's gaze.

"What's wrong?" Gwen asked curiously.

"Gwen, um, about Uncle Stacy, well..." Peter hesitated, making Gwen extremely anxious.

"Did something happen to my dad? Was he hurt?"

"That's not the case, but..." Peter still didn't know how to put it.

Gwen's eyes turned and she saw the tablet in Peter's hand. She reached out and grabbed it, turned on the computer, and then saw the video of George's confession.

"Snapped!"

The computer slipped from Gwen's hands and fell. Gwen covered her mouth with both hands, totally unable to believe what she saw.

Peter put his arm around Gwen and whispered to comfort her, "Don't worry, Uncle Stacy. He has signed a plea agreement, but he has been relieved of his duties and will not be prosecuted by SHIELD." But Gwen couldn't accept it at all. She pushed Peter away and shouted, "They must be using me to threaten my dad. Otherwise, why did others take so long to review, but I am cleared so quickly?"

After shouting, Gwen no longer cared about Peter and the surrounding SHIELD staff. She turned around and ran out. She wanted to go home and ask questions in person.

Peter followed Gwen out of the house and took a taxi to Gwen's house. When they got to her house, George came out to open the door and let Gwen in, but blocked Peter outside.

"Sorry, kid, our family needs some time alone. You should go back and visit your uncle and aunt!"

George's attitude was very cold, something Peter had never encountered before.

He could only take a few steps back in dismay and said awkwardly: "Uh, if you need any help, you can call me anytime. My phone is on 24 hours a day."

But what greeted him was the door slamming shut.

Peter sighed and turned away. He came to the police station again, intending to visit Uncle Ben and Aunt May, but was told that the two had been handed over to S.H.I.E.L.D. due to irrefutable evidence.

Peter hurried back to S.H.I.E.L.D. and came to Director Garrett's office again.

"Director, this is all Hydra's conspiracy! All the evidence is fake!" He stood anxiously in front of the desk, his hands on the table, leaning forward, looking at Director Garrett sitting behind the desk.

"Hey, Peter, I understand how you feel."

Director Garrett stood up, pulled Peter to sit on the sofa beside him, poured him coffee himself, then sat opposite Peter and began to reason with him.

"But we can't be sure that this evidence is fake! Just like George Stacy before, because of his case, we even arrested the person who reviewed the evidence for investigation."

"But what was the result? It turns out that he is Hydra!"

"And the reason why Thomas told you that was because he wanted to use you to disrupt the normal work of SHIELD and rescue George Stacy. If we hadn't kept it a secret and didn't let George know about it, what if he refused to admit it? Wouldn't we have let Hydra off the hook?"

Peter was very anxious, "Chief, Uncle Ben, Aunt May and George are different. They are definitely not Hydra!"

"Peter, don't let your emotions cloud your wisdom. If you just think about it, you will know. Your parents have been working for Hydra for so many years, and they even trusted you to be raised by them. How could they not know about this?"

"You are making a presumption of guilt! It's pure wild guessing!" Peter shouted.

Director Garrett was immediately displeased when he saw that Peter was not going to listen to his words and could not fool him. He frowned and scolded:
"Look, Peter, I tell you about evidence, and you say it's fake. I tell you about reasoning, and you say I have no evidence! So, you have all the reasons, right?"

Peter was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to refute.

"Humph! From now on, everything will be based on the investigator's report!" Director Garrett snorted coldly and ordered him to leave. "I still have official business to attend to, so you don't have to come to my office every day. That's it!"
