Chapter 218 We Must Trust the Government

Chapter 218 We Must Trust the Government

After Peter spoke a few words to Gwen, he hung up the phone in a hurry.

At this time, the lawyer also came out and proved to him that the mastermind behind this case was SHIELD. Similarly, only SHIELD had the power to release people.

After hearing this, Peter couldn't hold back any longer. After saying goodbye to his lawyer, he hurried to S.H.I.E.L.D.

When he arrived at SHIELD, he found that SHIELD was also in a state of chaos. He didn't care about these trivial matters and rushed directly to Director Garrett's office. After knocking on the door and entering, he explained the situation and began to ask the reason.

"Ugh!"

Director Garrett sighed, pulled Peter to sit down, and said helplessly:
"I originally thought this matter would be simple, but after Rumlow's careful investigation, he discovered that Thomas actually has a wide social circle and is friends with many people. These people even include some SHIELD agents."

"What?" Peter was shocked.

"In order to prevent SHIELD from being infiltrated by Hydra, I had to arrest and investigate everyone who had contact with Thomas. As long as they are proven to be innocent, I will release them."

"Then Uncle Ben and Aunt Mei..."

"Because there is some chaos inside SHIELD right now, there is a shortage of manpower. I had to discuss with President Rogers and borrow the police system to do the work. Those police officers are also working strictly according to the list they found in the investigation, and they are not aware of your relationship with SHIELD."

Peter breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That's great. Does that mean Uncle Ben and Aunt May are okay?"

"The detailed investigation still needs to be carried out, but as long as they are not Hydra, the police will definitely let them go soon. Peter, you must have confidence in the federal police system." Director Garrett patted Peter on the shoulder and said earnestly.

"That's definitely not the case. They definitely aren't Hydra!" Peter patted his chest and assured Director Garrett.

"How about this, I'll call the police station and tell them about your situation so you can come over to visit. There will definitely be a result in a few days at most."

"Thank you so much, Director!" Peter said gratefully.

After leaving SHIELD, Peter was not as anxious as when he first arrived. Looking at the situation inside the bureau, he saw people being taken away by security personnel for investigation from time to time. The atmosphere in the bureau was tense and people were panicking.

Peter sighed, but he also understood Director Garrett's approach. The bureau should first conduct self-examination and self-correction, clean up the untrustworthy members first, and then ensure the purity of the team. This can avoid being backstabbed in the fight against Hydra.

However, he believed that SHIELD would neither wrongly accuse a good person nor let a bad person go.

After leaving S.H.I.E.L.D., he went to the police station again, and as expected, he met Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

He explained the situation and then said comfortingly:
"Uncle, don't worry, it's just a normal investigation. Once the police confirm that you have no connection with Hydra, you will be released."

Uncle Ben nodded with satisfaction:

"This is a normal investigative process, an understandable and necessary action. Since even SHIELD is conducting its own investigation, we certainly shouldn't make any exceptions. Peter, you should believe in the country, the government, and the federal legal system."

"I will, uncle."

After visiting Uncle Ben, Peter went to visit Aunt May before leaving the police station. Gwen was also concerned about this place, and after school, she hurried over to care about her boyfriend. The two had dinner together, and then Peter told Gwen in detail about his parents.

Although the appearance of a legendary organization like Hydra is surprising, Gwen cares more about her boyfriend.

"Peter, no one knows better than me what a kind boy you are. What kind of people your parents are has no effect on your character. Especially since they died when you were very young and you were raised by Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Please remember, Peter, no matter what, I will always stand by your side."

She comforted Peter and made it clear that her love for him was unshakable.

After the two of them spent some time together, Peter was about to send Gwen home. But the brave Gwen took the initiative to take a crucial step. She decided to stay with Peter at night to comfort Peter's depressed mood because of his parents' affairs.

So, on the night that Uncle Ben and Aunt May were locked up, Peter and Gwen, two high school students, finally took the last step in Peter's cabin.

With Gwen's company, Peter's worries were gone and he almost didn't want to leave. He now went to visit Uncle Ben and Aunt May during the day, and came back to cook dinner with Gwen at night, watch TV after dinner, and finally have some sex.

He originally thought that this carefree life would continue until Uncle Ben and the others returned from the police station, but unexpectedly, a few days later, Gwen called him in tears and said that Director Stacy was arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Peter hurried to Gwen's house, and Gwen threw herself into his arms in a panic and told him the situation in detail.

It turns out that George Stacy had worked with Thomas for a period of time. At that time, Thomas was not from the CIA, but from the FBI. This period of time was not long, so short that Director Stacy had forgotten about this matter and this person.

As SHIELD conducted an in-depth investigation, they discovered the connection and arrested George Stacy.

After finding out the whole story, Peter lowered his head and kissed Gwen's forehead, saying soothingly:
"Don't worry, Gwen. George is just interacting with Thomas normally. He will be released soon, just like Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Now even SHIELD's own agents are under investigation. Being investigated doesn't mean anything."

"We must believe in the country, the government, and the federal legal system!"

After Peter's comfort, Gwen's panic finally subsided a little.

However, Mrs. Stacy was not as optimistic as the other two. She kept making phone calls to lawyers, the police association, media reporters, college classmates...she looked for all the friends she could find.

No matter how Peter and the others tried to persuade her, she just refused to stop. They had no choice but to let her do what she wanted.

But Mrs. Stacy's efforts seemed to be in vain in front of SHIELD, and Sheriff Stacy was not released. In the end, she had no choice but to resign herself to her fate and pray that SHIELD was really just a routine investigation.

Peter had specifically inquired about it, and found out that quite a few people had been arrested during this period because of the Hydra incident, including many high-ranking government officials and senior executives of consortiums. These were arrest warrants specially approved by President Rogers and issued by the Chief Justice.

Among these people, many were released very quickly, while many others have been under investigation and interrogation and there has been no further news to date.

Peter was very confident in his relatives. He originally thought that as long as they waited patiently, the truth would come true and the false would become true. Uncle Ben and the others would definitely be released smoothly.

But no matter how confident he is, his family members are still worried. So as a SHIELD agent, Peter travels back and forth between the police station and SHIELD every day to visit his family members and inquire about the progress of the investigation.
