Mystery: Starting from Meeting Amon
Chapter 27 Bait
Chapter 27 Bait
Since he had received the money, Lewis had no intention of leaving Triss alone. He put on five rings on his left hand that served as temporary lucky charms, and took all the charms of the realm of darkness. He armed himself to the teeth with charms and then rushed to the lower street of Iron Cross Street.
“Seared meat, fish, and oyster soup!”
Street vendors were shouting as they sold their wares. Ragged children mingled in the crowd. From time to time, they would look at the wares being hawked on the street and swallow their saliva, or quietly reach out their hands to the wares.
Lewis found a small hotel, spent two pence to buy a set of ragged clothes and put them on, pretending to be a resident and blending into the crowd on the lower street of Iron Cross Street.
Coming to a busy street, Lewis blinked his right eye three times in succession and observed the people around him.
Soon, he found several patients who had serious health problems and were about to become terminally ill. These might be Triss's next target.
Pretending to casually follow one of the patients with liver problems, Lewis crossed the end of the street and saw a herbal medicine shop.
He quietly followed the crowd and watched the patient with liver problems enter the herbal medicine shop. When he came out, he had a packet of medicine in his hand.
Suddenly, a lady wearing a fisherman's hat, whose face was covered by a black veil and whose appearance could not be seen clearly, patted the patient lightly and then quickly stepped back.
Lewis's intuition immediately sensed the danger. If he guessed correctly, this lady should be Triss. As a witch of Sequence 7, Triss had the ability to perform evil rituals, and naturally also had the ability to collect the lives of those who were about to die.
Gripping the talisman in his hand, Lewis hurriedly followed. The characteristics of the machine enabled him to perfectly control his body without emitting any easily detectable aura.
Following the lady to a sparsely populated alley, Lewis suddenly rushed forward and punched the lady on the back, shouting the word "destiny".
Witches are all natural assassins. Although Lewis is a powerful fighter, he dare not confront them head-on. If he is not careful, it would be a tragedy if he is stabbed in the neck.
However, there will be no problem as long as a strong bad luck is inflicted on the opponent. The Key of Light is a very powerful magical item. Once entangled by this bad luck, ordinary extraordinary people can even stab themselves to death with a knife.
“It feels great to have so many talismans.” Lewis couldn’t help but sigh in his heart, then he pinched the lady’s slender wrist, pressed her to the ground, and pressed his knee against the other’s slender neck.
"Be honest, or I will send you to see your God!" Lewis fumbled for the extraordinary items on Triss's body while guarding against possible misfortune that might affect himself.
"Mr. Lewis!" The woman's voice sounded a little surprised. She turned her head with difficulty, and the look in her eyes suddenly shook.
Lewis frowned. Although this lady's sense of danger was exactly the same as Triss's, judging from the touch of her skin and her voice, this lady was not Triss at all.
After taking off the black veil on the lady's face, Lewis was shocked by the scene before him. The person he caught was Cherry, a dancer from Wharton Mansion.
"What is your relationship with Triss?" Lewis embarrassedly stuffed the few one-sol banknotes he had searched out back to their original places, and asked as Cherry's face flushed.
As Lewis loosened his hand, Cherry stood up and took a few steps back, putting some distance between herself and Lewis.
"Mr. Lewis, are you also a superhuman?" Cherry reached her hand under her clothes, and the dangerous aura on her body became even stronger.
Lewis smiled calmly. Facing Cherry who was under the spell, he knew he would be the child of destiny within five minutes and didn't have to worry about the other party making a rash move.
Besides, although the assassin is strong, his fighting skills will not be too weak. "Yes, I am a transcendent, and I took the 'machine' potion half a month ago." Lewis answered calmly, and then asked: "You should have just taken the potion, it can be seen that you are not very skilled."
At this moment, Lewis finally understood the source of the sense of danger from Cherry. She was already tainted with the aura of the original witch, and this aura was most likely transmitted through Triss.
“Yes.” Cherry stared at Lewis and said, “This is not something you should interfere with. Leave here, I can pretend that I didn’t see you, and you are welcome to continue to be my guest.”
"It's you who should go back. Otherwise, I will consider handing you over to the police or the Night Watchmen." Lewis said disdainfully.
Cherry frowned her beautiful brows, thought for a moment, and after some hesitation, she drew out the dagger at her waist. Her body became light and she rushed forward.
Just as Lewis was about to dodge, a flower pot fell from the sky and hit Cherry on the back of her head, causing her to faint.
"Never underestimate the power of bad luck, even for extraordinary people." Lewis looked up at the direction where the flowerpot fell. A woman in plain clothes hurriedly closed the window to distance herself from the falling object.
Lewis spread his hands. He actually wanted to thank the lady who threw the flower pot.
Lewis helped Cherry walk to the hotel in front of the single apartment, asked for a room, and then tied Cherry's hands and feet.
Thinking that it would take some time for Cherry to wake up, Lewis went out to look for Triss.
It was obvious that Cherry was not here to collect lifespans, she was just a bait released by Triss. When he attacked Cherry, Triss must have noticed him.
"Where will she hide?" Lewis thought about it. Since Triss wanted to collect the lifespans of dying people, the slums would be the best place.
Some people die here every day. These people have neither family nor property. Even if they die, it will not attract anyone's attention, and no one will even call the police.
However, Cherry's arrest today will surely alert Triss. Next, Triss may not come to Iron Cross Street again.
"It would be great if I could find Triss's whereabouts, so I can wait for her." Lewis searched the streets below Iron Cross Street for danger but found nothing.
He decided to go back and ask Cherry, maybe Cherry would know something.
Back in the shabby hotel room, Lewis pinched his eyes slightly, and the tied-up Cherry had already escaped.
"Don't trust too much that the machine will not make mistakes, and don't believe that everything will go according to the set program." Lewis sighed. He realized that he had underestimated an extraordinary person.
Just then, the machine potion provided feedback and his spirit leaped for joy, a symbol of further digestion of the potion.
"Fortunately, the result is not too bad. It is a pleasant surprise to sum up the acting method." Lewis paid the hotel owner for the accommodation, changed his clothes and left the lower street of Iron Cross Street.
