The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.
Chapter 732 Conspiracy
Chapter 732 Conspiracy
“Respected Commander! I think we should take action!” Lydalias stood humbly before Khammur, bowing respectfully as he spoke, his hoarse voice like the scraping of metal, making one’s mind sink.
“We can’t let them have another dragon knight! They’re too troublesome now! As far as we know, they already have four dragon knights! One is suspected to be an earth or light type dragon knight, one thunder dragon knight, one storm dragon knight, and one fire dragon knight! And now they’re about to add another magic dragon knight…” Lydalias said in a low voice.
"What do you think, Sernar?" Khammur turned his gaze to Sernar, who stood solemnly to the side. This deep-seated Ringwraith exuded a strong aura of death, giving people a chilling feeling that kept them at bay.
“Me? I will obey your wishes! However, I must remind you that there is very little chance of intercepting this dragon knight unless the Nine Rings of Mordor or the other Nazghurs (Ringwraiths) of Gombard join forces with us!” Sernar said calmly.
“Their sage is terrifying; we need to consider the variables involved!” Khammur nodded in agreement with Sernar’s view. After all, a powerful sage can accomplish many things, and if one falls into his rhythm, even someone as strong as the Ringwraiths would be skinned alive!
“However, we really cannot let them continue to grow stronger! Our lord is about to return, and Middle-earth will be brought back under our rule. It’s time to weaken these stumbling blocks!” Khammur said after a moment of silence. You see, during the time that Sauron was hiding and acting like a grandson, the mighty Gondor had fallen to the point where the nobility was in a mess. The only restorer of the dynasty, Denethor II, was still leveling up. Not to mention the elves and dwarves, who had been bleeding themselves dry for thousands of years and had almost turned the dwarves into spineless wimps. The rising Rohan was also slowly falling into internal strife. The prosperous North was almost destroyed by their repeated attacks.
It's clear that the entire alliance in Middle-earth is a broken ship! If Roland hadn't had the system, joining the alliance would have been like joining the Communist Party on the spot in 49! It wasn't until Roland arrived in Middle-earth that he realized it was a pipe dream that humanity could defeat Sauron based on its current paper strength. Roland even suspected that Sauron was killed off by the plot, otherwise it wouldn't make sense that Sauron, who commanded Mordor with direct forces such as Gombad, Dolgord, and the Orcs of the North, as well as allies like the Eastern Barbarians, Harad, Khander, and Umbal pirates, couldn't defeat a Gondor that had been successfully overrun and a Rohan army that hadn't completed its full mobilization.
With the Black Barbarians tying them down in the rear, the Northern reinforcements were completely pinned down by the Eastern Barbarians' chariots at the Lonely Mountain Valley. The Golden Forest and Woodland Kingdoms had most of their forces tied down by Dordogne. In other words, Sauron had a winning hand and intended to make things work out well, but he ended up with a huge mess...
In other words, what do you think that old man saw with the Crystal of Truth that could drive Denethor II, a figure comparable to the King of Gondor and the only one in history to be able to overpower Sauron with his will, to despair? There's no reason for him to win! If Denethor II had seen even a glimmer of hope, he wouldn't have gone to the extreme of burning himself alive. So Roland is skeptical about the fighting strength of the entire War of the Ring. Is it really a case of unknown strength, growing stronger when facing stronger opponents?
"So what should we do?" Cernal asked, taking the initiative to speak.
"What do you think we should do?" Khamur asked in return.
"..." Cernal fell silent.
"Find a way to assassinate him! Dragon knights can't stay cooped up in the castle forever! Lydalias! Sernar! You two seize the opportunity to kill that newly promoted dragon knight! We must not let him grow stronger!" Khammur said in a deep voice.
"Excuse my bluntness, but I'm afraid we can't get close to them! That dragon knight will definitely be protected by a high-ranking professional!" Sernar said calmly.
“I know! So I will gather some of the wandering orcs and arm them! These cannon fodder will attack the fortress and sweep through the surrounding villages, and the human kingdoms will send troops to deal with them! Most importantly, that newly promoted dragon knight will definitely appear!” Khamur let out a piercing laugh, a sound that could penetrate one’s scalp and send chills down one’s spine.
"Why?" Lydalias was taken aback.
“Dragon knights aren’t hothouse flowers; they need battle and blood to hone themselves. Those wandering orcs pose no threat to them; they’re perfect training targets! The human kingdoms won’t miss this opportunity to train their troops!” Sernar said coldly, his hand gripping the handle of the Soul Hook Scythe tightly. “That’s right! They can’t resist the temptation! A dragon knight who hasn’t experienced the baptism of battle is just a decoration! They won’t be unmoved. The territory of the Lagrang Kingdom is long and narrow, and its high-level professionals are tied down by a few key points. They won’t send too many high-level professionals to accompany that dragon knight! I estimate that only the Storm Dragon Knight will go along!” Khamur smiled sinisterly. Through observation, he had long since discovered the characteristics of the Lagrang Kingdom. Most of its high-level professionals didn’t travel casually; the only ones who were mobile were those three dragon knights. As long as their king didn’t make any moves, those high-level professionals would stay and defend their cities!
The Ringwraiths might flee in panic when faced with a group of high-ranking dragon riders charging at them, but there's no reason why they couldn't defeat a lone dragon rider and a rookie dragon rider!
"Gather those roaming orcs as soon as possible! And fully arm them! Remember to bring black arrows! That dragon rider will be tough to deal with! You don't want to face forbidden dragon spells!" Khamur turned away, his voice fading into the air...
"Commander is truly wise!" Lydilias exclaimed sincerely. After equipping those cannon fodder orcs with their Dolgodom standard equipment, the humans would definitely think that Dolgodom's main force had launched a major invasion. In reality, their main force was still stockpiled in the Dolgodom fortress. This strategy successfully drew out the target without depleting their own strength. Lydilias admired Khamur's strategy immensely.
"..." Cernar clenched his fists, said nothing, and got up to leave. The sound of armor plates scraping against each other and his footsteps receding into the dark passageway followed...
……
“What should I do? Glory… mission…” Cernal walked up to the tallest watchtower in Dolgodo and opened his palm, inside which lay a coat of arms blurred by the erosion of time.
Then he slowly raised his head and looked up at the sky. The sky was dark and gloomy, and the entire city of Dolgodo was shrouded in dark clouds without a ray of sunshine.
“Light…” Cernal suddenly reached out his hand, and a faint ray of light shone through the gaps in the war clouds that shrouded Dolgodo, illuminating his hand. Through this light, Cernal could clearly see the knuckles that had turned into withered white bones beneath the armor plates.
"Sigh..." As the last remaining light was swallowed by darkness, only a long sigh and a wisp of black mist remained in the air.
……
"Something's wrong, Lord Ismir!" A goblin knight rushed into Ismir's makeshift wooden castle. Since he had reinforced the walls with stones, he could only make do with wood for now.
"What happened?" Ismir put down the black bread he was holding, wiped his hands, and came out.
