Chapter 722 The Will of the Saint and the Evil
The figure shrouded in black robes gently picked up the grayish-white dragon egg, then grabbed Weiss's arm. He extended a pale, bony finger and slowly traced it across Weiss's wrist, leaving a bloody mark.
“Evil dragon… Demon knight, quite a match! Hehehe!” A hoarse, enigmatic laugh rang out.
Soon, the blood from Weiss's wrist was drawn onto the eggshell of the dragon egg, forming a twisted and eerie pattern. The blood-soaked pattern emitted a bewitching light and then slowly seeped into the eggshell.
"Ugh..." Weiss, who had been unconscious, slowly opened his eyes after struggling a few times due to the pain in his wrist.
"Ah!" Weiss scrambled backward, using both hands and feet to retreat, terrified by the pitch-black thing in front of him.
"Young knight, you seem quite afraid of me?" the figure shrouded in black robes said in a hoarse, low voice.
"You...who are you!" Despite his bleeding wrist trembling, Weiss drew his short sword from his waist and pointed it at the "person" in front of him, his voice shaking.
"Me? Who am I? It's been a long time since anyone asked me that question..." The person in the black robe seemed lost in some kind of nostalgia, standing quietly in the spot, deep in thought.
Weiss, naturally, dared not move rashly and could only hold up his short sword, resulting in a stalemate with him, leaving only his injured wrist dripping blood.
"That dragon rider won't be able to decide the outcome so quickly. Slaying dragons isn't easy! Leave this place; this is not a place you should be!" The figure shrouded in black robes said calmly, then pushed the dragon egg in his hand forward with his battle aura.
As Weiss gazed at the decaying and evil battle aura enveloping the dragon egg, his eyelids twitched, and he already had a suspicion about the person in front of him that he didn't want to believe.
“The Ringwraiths…” Weiss said bitterly. He was numb now. He had been listening to all sorts of rumors about the Ringwraiths, but he never thought that one day he would face the real Ringwraiths.
"I am a member of Nazghur, but the world calls me the Ringwraith!" The person shrouded in black robes slowly lifted his cloak, revealing a face adorned with a hideous helmet. However, black mist swirled around his face, making only the two flickering flames of his soul visible in his pupils...
"Gulp!" Weiss slowly swallowed. He felt like he saw his great-grandmother, and she was waving to him...
"Heh heh!" As if satisfied with Weiss's performance, the Ringwraith put his cloak back on and hid himself in the shadows.
"What are you trying to do!" Weiss said coldly. Once he confirmed that the person before him was a Ringwraith, he calmed down. Although he feared death, he had never forgotten his identity! He was human! He was loyal to humanity! Furthermore, his only relative had died at the hands of the Ringwraiths; one could say he hated them to the core!
"You seem to hate me?" The Ringwraith retreated into the shadows under the tree and asked calmly in a hoarse voice.
“Hate? I’d rather kill you with my own hands! You filthy, evil things!” Weiss’s voice was full of coldness as he stood up, sword in hand.
"Filthy and evil? You think... they really uphold justice?" The Ringwraith's voice was somewhat ethereal and unreal, yet it carried a chill that seemed to emanate from the very soul. "It's useless for a little brat like you to care about those things. Leave this burial ground of the dead; the living should not be here!" The Ringwraith silently waved his hand, indicating that Whis could leave.
"What exactly did you do to me?" Weiss stared at the scabs on his wrist and then at the Ringwraith with a heavy heart. Heaven knows if the Ringwraith had placed some kind of curse on him or something else.
"What did I do to you? Hehehe! Someone of your status isn't worthy of my schemes! I just helped you form a contract with that dragon egg! It was nothing..." The Ringwraith chuckled sinisterly, amused by Whis's caution. What could a mere first-tier apprentice knight possibly warrant the Ringwraith's schemes?
"A dragon egg in contract?" Weiss stared at the dragon egg in his arms, his expression hardening. He couldn't understand why this Ringwraith would be so kind, not only sparing his life but also granting him a contract with this dragon egg! If this were true, he would be a dragon knight in the future!
“Of course! The most deeply ingrained slave contract! From now on, the life and death of this dragon will be in your hands! Hehehe!” The Ringwraith laughed wildly, the sunlight filtering through the trees highlighting Whis's pale face.
"Don't look like you've lost your parents. This dragon is beyond saving, but we still have some connection. Helping him preserve the few remaining bloodlines of the evil dragon race is just a small favor. As for why he chose you... tsk tsk tsk!" The Ringwraith looked meaningfully at the battle aura flames that Weiss had drawn out. The evil aura emanating from the purplish-black battle aura was no less than that of the Ringwraith himself.
“You’re more like a Ringwraith than I am! At least your evil is pure enough! More like… well! that thing that flies in the sky!” The Ringwraith pointed to the purplish-black figure tumbling in the clouds.
"..." Weiss was completely bewildered. Had he gained the Ringwraiths' approval? Did this mean he had connections in both the legitimate and illegitimate worlds?
"Alright, hurry up and leave before I change my mind. No matter what, you're a human knight, and we're destined to be enemies in the future!" The Ringwraith waved his hand at Whis as if shooing away a fly.
"Stop looking, that dragon is beyond saving. A dragon rider in his prime is fighting a half-crippled old man... You can ask that dragon rider for the dragon's dragon crystal later. The dragon egg in your arms needs its father's dragon crystal, which can help it skip the long infancy period. That's all I have to say." The Ringwraith stood silently in the shadows, with only two flames of soul fire flickering slightly.
"What is your name, senior?" Weiss bowed to the Ringwraith standing in the shadows. Regardless of how ferocious the Ringwraith was rumored to be, it didn't seem to have much killing intent towards him. On the contrary, it helped him form a contract with a dragon egg, so Weiss decided it was better to show some respect.
“Third Ring, Sernar… Hurry! Other Ringwraiths are coming!” Sernar’s figure flickered, leaving only his voice lingering in the air. When Weiss looked again, Sernar had already disappeared from the shadows.
……
"Senar! Where did you just go? Hmm, why do you have the aura of a living being on you?" Fifth Ring Lidillas asked curiously as he looked at Senar, who had returned to his side.
"Hmm, just killed a few blind bugs! Let's continue watching!" Cernal subtly shifted Lydalias's attention to the sky.
“Lord Kehamur is stationed in Dolgodo and cannot come, otherwise we could try to keep this unruly dragon rider here!” Lydalias said viciously.
"Keep him? You're willing to risk your life to keep him here? If he wants to leave, only the Nine Rings can stop him!" Sernar scoffed. After all, the dragon riders' escape abilities were well-tested; aside from the Nine Rings' space-time jump, no other Ringwraith could truly capture them. It was especially awkward facing a dragon rider; even if they could capture a Nine Ring, they might not be able to defeat them, and even if they could defeat an First or Second Ring, they might not be able to capture them…
"Are we just going to stand by and watch him slay the dragon? Wasn't that dragon our ally before?" Lydalias said, somewhat dejected.
“Right! Doesn’t this male dragon have a cub? Where’s the dragon egg? Save it!” Lydalias reminded him, only to find that Cernar was looking into the depths of the forest in the distance.
"You ask me why? Because I was once a knight too..." Sernar murmured, standing in the shadows and gazing in the direction Weiss had left.
