Mystery: Mr. Witch and Ms. Hunter
Chapter 64 Night Patrol
Chapter 64 Night Patrol
……
After learning about the lower-ranking priest of the Church of the Storm who was suspected of being a pedophile, Altaïr looked at the clock on the wall and realized that it was already four o'clock.
Altaïr thought about it and decided to wake up Venata and let her finish today's lesson as soon as possible. Although Sophie's house was next to his own, it was risky to go home too late, after all, this was the East District. Moreover, he was a single man after all, and it seemed difficult to leave a little girl in his house until late, and Mr. Statham seemed to be sensitive to such things.
But this is a good thing. Altaïr pushed the sleeping Venata, who woke up dazedly and was a little dazed when she saw the expectant girl beside her.
"Sophie is here to learn from you. Sophie, this is Miss Vinata Severns, you can just call her Vinata... Calling her Severns is a bit weird."
Venata rolled her eyes at Altaïr, but did not refuse. After all, she was being stared at by Sophie's big eyes, and even though Venata was very unhappy that Altaïr had woken her up, she could not say no.
"You two should get along well. I'm going to be out for a while. I have something to take care of."
Altaïr said as he began to put on his coat.
"Come back early to cook."
Venata ordered without even looking up.
"You can't do it yourself... Never mind, you should wait for me to come back and do it."
Just as Altaïr was about to retort, he suddenly remembered the other party's strange talent in cooking and quickly changed his words.
……
A few minutes later, Altaïr walked briskly on the streets of Backlund. He did not bring his Blood-Tearer with him, because he did not intend to cause trouble this time. Although the priest's behavior was despicable, he did not intend to act arbitrarily based on Sophie's words. Moreover, he did not know whether the other party was a Beyonder, and attacking a priest in Backlund was a very dangerous thing.
In fact, the safest way is to change one's identity and sneak into the choir. However, the other party does not seem to choose a guy like me who has passed the expiration date in his eyes...Altaïr said self-deprecatingly.
Moreover, he did not intend to cause any more trouble before Miss Audrey's business was done. Under the premise of not violating moral standards, there were not many opportunities to play the role of an assassin, but there were definitely many in the East District.
Of course, the best outcome is that the priest is fine, and it's just that little Sophie is overly nervous. In this way, no one will die, and no one will be hung on the bell tower of the Storm Church... The only one who may suffer is Mr. Statham, who lost a watch...
As Altaïr was lost in thought, he walked towards the direction of the Brave Bar. When he got up at noon today, Ian's messenger came to inform him to go to the Brave Bar in the evening to get the information he wanted.
Backlund's winters were damp and cold. Due to the increase in the amount of charcoal used by each household, the air quality had also become much worse. For people with any chronic disease, Backlund's outdoor climate in winter was no less than a torture.
Likewise, no healthy gentleman would like to go to the dark and cold alley behind the bar in this weather, especially at night, unless they were going to do some not-so-serious evil deeds.
Indeed, Altaïr's keen senses allowed him to detect something of a rather egregious nature.
He paused in the shadow of the low wall behind the bar and listened carefully. He had his own scale of immorality, with the less egregious things on one end (like adultery, which was the result of two people willing to take the risk) and what he was hearing now was on the other end of the scale.
He heard the voices of five men, who seemed to be surrounding the two poor men, some of whom were doing things with the boots on their feet that the innocent shoemaker would never dream of, and in between were the painful gasps of a man and a woman and the sharp pleading of a woman.
From their accents, Altaïr determined that two of them were gentlemen of a certain social status, and the other three were probably bodyguards or something like that.
Now he saw the light of the lantern, and in an open space in the shadow of the towering building he distinguished two well-dressed men, and two figures on the floor, one of whom was firmly restrained by three bodyguards.
one of the men was straddling the woman and slapping her in the face, causing her to scream out in sharp tears, while the other laughed as he gushed from his gin bottle.
What did I say? -- Backlund has never lacked opportunities to act.
Altaïr did not think he was a righteous man, but he still stubbornly followed his own moral code. He should have blended in with the people around him at all times, but he still moved.
Altaïr did not hesitate and stepped out from the shadows. The three bodyguards began to get nervous, and one of them stepped forward and warned Altaïr:
"Get lost, man, this is nothing to see."
The other two also turned around, one put his hands in his coat pockets and the other put his hands behind his back.
"I'm afraid not, gentlemen." Altaïr shook his head regretfully. "I consider what has happened here to be of a very bad nature, and I would like to ask that you cease your irrational behavior and apologize to this gentleman and lady."
Altaïr spread his hands and continued walking towards the five men.
The two perpetrators had stopped their cruel game. They left the woman's bloody body lying on the ground and stood aside. The woman relaxed, groaning with a mixture of pain and relief, and turned her body to one side. The other gentleman next to her seemed to be the previous brave man, but he seemed to have underestimated the other's force.
One of the rich men chuckled and handed the bottle to another rich man, who leaned against the wall and drank the wine greedily, as if he was watching a good show.
"I say again, get out of here, kid." The first bodyguard tilted his chin and spoke again. His hands were folded across his chest, and Altaïr could not confirm what weapon he was holding.
Altaïr stared at the bodyguard in the bowler hat. He was a large man, much larger than Altaïr, and the other two were about the same size.
"As long as you make sure these two poor people don't get hurt again, I will leave naturally."
"So, okay..."
"And I want those two who did such atrocities to them to be taught a lesson."
Altaïr said this as easily as if he had just brushed off a leaf from his clothes.
