Mystery: Mr. Witch and Ms. Hunter
Chapter 262 Staring into the Abyss
Chapter 262 Staring into the Abyss
The next day, Adele found herself waking up later than usual.
The assassin's biological clock was extremely accurate, and this would be almost impossible if the surrounding environment had not changed. Even when she wanted to sleep in, she would wake up briefly at the time of getting up every day, confirm that she did not need to get up early, and then fall into a deep sleep.
Adele looked out of the porthole and saw the sea water which was not much different from before. The sea water was sliding in one direction, forming a wave belt.
However, Adele soon realized where the abnormality came from: the sea water was abnormally high, almost filling the entire line of sight, and the sky was squeezed into a small white edge above the porthole.
Adele seemed to have noticed something, and hurriedly put on her clothes and ran from the captain's room to the deck.
Like standing on the top of a mountain and looking down, the huge whirlpool that Catalina mentioned appeared before her eyes.
This huge funnel-shaped depression has a diameter of more than tens of nautical miles. The "Honeysuckle Queen" has obviously entered the vortex for some time. The water walls on both sides are inclined at about 20 degrees, forming a dense and smooth barrier around the Honeysuckle Queen.
The Queen of Honeysuckle was still about fifteen miles away from the center of the vortex, so her speed was not too fast. The speed of the vortex was gradually increasing, reaching its highest speed at the center, swallowing up everything caught in the vortex.
Suddenly, there was a teeth-grinding creaking sound from the bow, followed by a loud bang of something breaking. Adele felt her feet tremble slightly, and then she returned to calm.
"Don't worry, that's the wreck of the Cholera."
The black-robed witch standing at the bow noticed Adele, turned her head and smiled at her, and spoke softly.
"The Cholera?"
Adele walked to Tracy's side and watched with her as the piece of wood that looked like the middle section of a ship was smashed by the bow of the "Honeysuckle Queen" and then left far behind by the high speed of the ironclad ship.
"That's the escort ship of my fleet."
Tracy made way for Adele, "There are no Beyonders on it, it's just a speedboat."
"Originally, the sect wanted my fleet to explore this place, but when we were sailing about three nautical miles from here, this huge whirlpool appeared and swept our fleet in."
"I originally wanted to speed up and leave here directly, but there was not strong enough wind at that time, and the 'Black Death' could not speed up enough to escape."
Tracy said regretfully, "Mother could indeed help the ship leave here faster, but after seeing this whirlpool, she became a little excited and asked our fleet to get closer."
"But when the fleet was about twelve miles from the center, the attraction of the whirlpool suddenly became stronger. However, this attraction only acted on the Black Death, causing its speed to increase by nearly double, and it collided with the Cholera."
"If my mother hadn't used silk thread to wrap the hull in time and petrified the outer layer of the hull, I'm afraid the Black Death would have been directly crushed on the outer layer."
Tracy went on talking as the Honeysuckle Queen slid deeper into the water. The foam line was no longer visible, and the surface of the sea was completely out of sight. Behind them was a ridge of seawater, with the top of the slowly moving mountain visible only on the far edge opposite the whirlpool.
"The hull of the Honeysuckle Queen is very solid. Unless it hits a reef, it will not be torn apart by the whirlpool."
Adele comforted Tracy, who sighed and nodded slightly.
"I hope so... Oh, that was the Leprosy. It hit the shattered Cholera as we were speeding away from the whirlpool."
Following Tracy's gaze, Adele saw a bulbous bow floating in the whirlpool, with the black skull logo of Tracy's fleet engraved on it.
"There's no point in worrying about this. Let's go to the cabin and eat first. We are still three nautical miles away from the dangerous location you mentioned. We should still have some time."
Adele tried hard not to think about the "Honeysuckle Queen" being broken into two pieces and forced herself to change the subject.
“It’s a good idea to change your mind.”
Tracy nodded. "Unlike demigods of my mother's level, we still need to eat regularly to maintain our condition."
Then Adele and Tracy walked into the restaurant side by side and sat down at the edge of the long table.
The table covered with a neat white cloth was already laid out with toast, white bread, butter, fried meat and fish, grape jam, and a teapot of Xibe black tea. The female crew members on the "Honeysuckle Queen" sat at the edge of the long table and ate breakfast.
Leila seemed to be showing Lisette a love letter with strange wording that she had received this morning. Adele knew without hesitation that the letter was written by an uneducated sailor on the ship, with a few vulgar words in it.
Aphra did not appear at the table. She still had not developed the habit of getting up early to eat breakfast. She stubbornly maintained two meals a day and went to the kitchen to eat some leftover cold bread after everyone had finished eating.
Wendy was chatting with Natalie, but she seemed a little absent-minded when she heard her daughter received a love letter. However, Adele guessed that she was not concerned about her daughter receiving the love letter, but why she did not receive it - this was related to the dignity of the witch.
Catalina did not appear at the table either. As a saint, she no longer needed to eat on time. She would only take the initiative to eat when she found something delicious. Otherwise, she might even eat once every two or three months.
Seeing Adele and Tracy come in, everyone greeted them. Leila quickly hid the love letter in her hand, fearing that Adele would see it.
With the perception ability of a mid-sequence Beyonder, I can hear you and Lisette chattering at the door. Why are you hiding now...
Adele was speechless. She waved her hand and told everyone not to bother with them and just continue eating.
Leila had been interested in Adele since she was still the "instigator", which was made clear by Gagran when she first mentioned the Witch's Sect to Adele.
It wasn't just Leila. Except for Aphra, almost all of the four witch hosts at the Crucible and the Topper had thought about dethroning Adele before he was promoted to Sequence 7. They had been fighting over this for a long time, but in the end, they were defeated by Venata. Now, they were all unwilling to accept the result.
Hope this voyage goes well...
Adele took the teacup and poured herself a cup of black tea.
However, just as Adele was praying secretly, the course of the Honeysuckle Queen was shifting, heading straight for the center of the vortex and rushing into the red line of twelve nautical miles!
