The Hogwarts Emerald

Chapter 587 Legend

Chapter 587 Legend
Where does a wizard's magical power come from?
The magic world has been discussing this issue for thousands of years. Some say that magic comes from the soul, while others say that magic comes from blood.

The Department of Mysteries has been studying the mystery of the soul, but has never achieved anything. Dark wizards created Horcruxes to divide the soul, but apart from the evil immortality, they have not been able to prove that magic comes from the soul.

Since the soul theory has never been proven, most people prefer the view that magic comes from blood. This view is more intuitive and easy to observe, and some special bloodlines can bring extraordinary effects.

For example, Rubeus Hagrid has the blood of a giant, which makes him tall, resistant to magic, and thick-skinned; Filius Flitwick has the blood of a fairy, which gives him great talent; and Fleur Delacour's veela blood gives her beauty and extraordinary talent.

It is precisely because of these visible bloodline inheritances that some people are proud of their bloodline, just like racehorses and famous dogs.

The theory of bloodline was thus formed and gradually evolved into today's chain of contempt: wizards from pure-blood families > pure-blood wizards > half-blood wizards > Muggle-born wizards (Mudbloods) > Muggles (including Squibs).

Even for a wizard like Hermione who comes from a Muggle family, if you trace her roots, you can still find the shadow of wizards in her family tree. It may be a wizard who lives in seclusion among Muggles, or it may be a Squib. In short, this power hidden in the blood has reawakened in Hermione.

Bloodline theory: whether a person can become a wizard is determined by his bloodline. Children of wizards will basically be wizards, and children of pure Muggle descent will always be Muggles.

It's hard to accept that if you want to become a wizard, there is no other way than to be born into a good family. The idea that everyone is born equal seems like a joke.

After entering Hogwarts, Ada looked through the school's student list based on the theory of bloodline, trying to find her roots. But Louis was not a student of Hogwarts, and he grew up in France and would not go all the way to Scotland to study, so Ada found nothing.

Later, a basilisk attack occurred. In order to find the heir of Slytherin, Ada looked through all the wizard genealogies she could find, and finally found Gaunt, the last bloodline of Slytherin.

When the intricate genealogy of the wizarding family was placed in front of Ada, she realized the inseparable and complicated blood ties between the wizarding families. The vast majority of wizarding families are relatives, both distant and close.

For example, the rows of tombstones in front of us. Dorea Potter's last name before she got married was Black, and her name appears in the family tree of No. 12 Grimmauld Place.

There was another Black woman, her name was Lucretia, she later married Ignatius Prewett. Mrs. Weasley's last name before marriage was Prewett, and Percy's Christian name was still Ignatius. Isn't that a coincidence?
Therefore, the British Wizarding War was nothing more than an internal conflict among relatives, which is very similar to the wars between Muggles in European history.

It was because she consulted a lot of information and clarified the blood relationship between wizard families that Ada was able to find clues about the Deathly Hallows. By chance, Ada discovered a crucial clue: a woman named Peverell married into the Potter family.

That was many, many, many years ago. Apart from those who devoted themselves to studying the inheritance of wizard family genealogy, probably only idle people like Ada would be interested in it.

Ada has learned so much that she almost drowned in the ocean of knowledge.

Of course, it is not enough to just discover the connection between the two families. Many people regard the Peverell brothers and the Deathly Hallows as legends, and even fewer people can associate the Deathly Hallows with the possibility that they are in the Potter family.

At first, Ada didn't realize this until she talked to Grindelwald about the Deathly Hallows, and until she learned about the invisibility cloak in Harry Potter's hand, the ancestral invisibility cloak.

Peverell marrying into the Potter family, the ancestral invisibility cloak, Godric's Hollow, and Ignotus' tombstone, isn't this a coincidence!
Through these known clues, Ada concluded that Harry's invisibility cloak was Ignotus's invisibility cloak, which was one of the Deathly Hallows! So when Fred asked, she said it was within reach.

It is not easy to get the Invisibility Cloak from Harry. Harry himself has lost this treasure before, and more than once.

Ada figured out the whereabouts of the Invisibility Cloak by herself, and learned the whereabouts of the Elder Wand from Grindelwald. This means that Ada has found two Deathly Hallows, leaving only Cadmus's Resurrection Stone missing.

But even though she found them, Ada couldn't possess them. The Invisibility Cloak belonged to Harry, and Ada had no interest in snatching it; the Elder Wand was in Dumbledore's hands, and it was unlikely that she would get it in the short term. It was like going to a mountain of treasures and coming back empty-handed. Ada found the two Deathly Hallows, but it was no different from not finding them. Ada didn't know whether she should be happy or sad at this moment.

The twins had the same feeling at the moment. The legendary Deathly Hallows was right before their eyes, but they could only watch from afar. How uncomfortable and heartbreaking it was!

"Godric's Hollow, is there anything else that attracts you besides Ignotus and the Deathly Hallows?" George asked, trying to change the subject and ease the atmosphere of the cemetery.

George didn't want to bring up anything irrelevant. He just wanted to ask Ada what her next plans were.

From what George knew, she was a homebody and had come all the way here. It was impossible that she came here just to verify Ignotus' tombstone. She must have other purposes.

"You are really a worm in my stomach, George." Ada said, "It's just a tombstone. It can't run away. Just find someone to take a look. I came to Godric's Hollow to see if there are any clues to Gryffindor's relics."

Salazar Slytherin had a ring and locket, Helga Hufflepuff had a golden cup, Rowena Ravenclaw had a diadem, and Godric Gryffindor naturally had his own treasures as well.

There are two items in total, a tattered sorting hat and a goblin-made sword.

The Sorting Hat is in Hogwarts, stored in the headmaster's office, and is used once a year at the beginning of the school year. The sword of Gryffindor has not appeared for many years, at least Ada has never heard of it.

The sword of Gryffindor was made by goblins a thousand years ago. The sword is made of pure silver and inlaid with rubies. The name of Godric Gryffindor is engraved below the hilt.

You are a master of both sword and staff, and of both magic and martial arts. You are worthy of being called Godric Gryffindor!
As Gryffindor's heirloom, Voldemort must have coveted the sword and wanted to turn it into a Horcrux, just like the ring and the chalice.

As a student of Gryffindor College, Ada would never allow such a thing to happen and strongly condemned this shameful waste!

"Have you found it?" Fred looked around in confusion. Forgive his poor eyesight, he hadn't noticed anything along the way. If it weren't for Ada's reminder, he wouldn't have noticed Ignotus' tombstone.

"No." Ada said helplessly, "I just wanted to give it a try to see if there are any clues left here."

The sword of Gryffindor was born more than a thousand years ago. It has appeared in history and there are many legends about it.

Some say that the sword was stolen by Gryffindor from its maker, Ragnuck I; some say that the sword is hidden in Godric's Hollow; and some say that the sword has been recovered and protected by the goblins. There are all kinds of rumors.

There is another legend, somewhat like King Arthur's Sword in the Stone, where legend has it that only a true Gryffindor can find the sword.

This is also the situation that Ada most hopes to happen. No matter what she thinks, Voldemort will not be a real Gryffindor, so the sword will not be made into a Horcrux.

If this is true, the only relic left of the Big Four is the Ravenclaw diadem.
