The Hogwarts Emerald
Chapter 384: Going to the meeting alone
Chapter 384: Going to the meeting alone (thanks to the leader, Baba Chacha)
In this Defense Against the Dark Arts class, Moody exposed the darkness and horror of the world nakedly to the students. Although the students in the classroom were all sixth graders, it was still difficult for everyone to accept it for a while.
Moody first demonstrated the Unforgivable Curse, and then told everyone about his experience of hunting down dark wizards when he was young. This time, not only did he show the darkness of the world, but he also told everyone the ugly side of human nature.
Among all the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, everyone likes Lupin the most, because he is humorous and has real talent. Moody also has real talent, but he is not liked by everyone. Students all acknowledge Moody's strength, but it is difficult for them to like this professor.
In Professor Lupin's class, everyone learned real skills in laughter. In Professor Moody's class, only Moody laughed hoarsely, and the students were trembling.
After class, the students dispersed and discussed Moody and the horror of the dark arts in a low voice. Fred and George were not afraid. The two brothers talked about Moody's experiences with great interest and even thought Moody was cool.
In the evening, the hall was filled with people waiting for dinner. It is hard to change a person's nature, but it is easy to change a country. Some people can't change their bad habits. Draco Malfoy, who had restrained himself for half a school year, relapsed into his old ways.
Malfoy was shouting in the hallway with a copy of the Daily Prophet, saying, "Weasley, they don't even get your father's name right. He was a nobody, wasn't he?"
Young Master Ma had learned his lesson and did not mock the Weasley family's poverty. He just kept harping on the fact that the Daily Prophet had reported Mr. Weasley's name incorrectly.
Moreover, Malfoy had scouted in advance, and Ada and the twins did not appear in the hall. Although Ada and the twins were not there, Harry and Ron would not indulge Malfoy, and they soon started arguing.
When people are arguing, they tend to get too excited and say things without thinking. The two people who were arguing without thinking exchanged greetings with each other's parents.
"How dare you insult my mother, Potter." Malfoy's pale face turned slightly red.
"Then shut your fat mouth," Harry said, turning away.
There was a bang, a scream in the hallway, and Moody suddenly appeared in the hallway, his roar echoing in the hallway. Moody shouted, "Don't do this, kid!"
Moody limped into the hallway with his wand in hand, and he transformed Malfoy into a snow-white ferret. There was an eerie silence in the hallway, and no one dared to move except Moody.
Moody first showed concern for Harry and asked if he was injured, and then he went to chase the ferret (Malfoy) who was running away frantically.
"I hate people who attack others behind their backs," Moody said gruffly. "It's the dirtiest, meanest, cowardly thing to do..."
Moody pointed his wand at the ferret, which suddenly rose ten feet into the air, fell to the ground with a thud, and then suddenly rose up again. In mid-air, the ferret's four legs and tail flailing desperately, screaming in pain.
"Professor Moody! Alastor Moody! What are you doing?" said Professor McGonagall in surprise, and she immediately came down the marble stairs with a pile of books in her arms.
"Lessons learned," said Moody.
"Is this ferret a student?" exclaimed Professor McGonagall, and the books in her arms fell to the ground.
Moody nodded obediently, Professor McGonagall quickly drew out her wand, and with a crackling sound, Draco Malfoy recovered. Master Malfoy huddled up, his body shaking uncontrollably.
"Professor Moody, did Professor Dumbledore tell you that we never use Transfiguration spells as punishment!" Professor McGonagall said weakly, which was completely different from when she scared Ada.
"I think he mentioned it," Moody said absentmindedly, scratching his chin. "I can't remember exactly..."
Just as Professor McGonagall and Moody were discussing student punishment, whether to turn the students into a ferret, a pocket watch, or a map, Malfoy stood up trembling.
Malfoy looked at Moody resentfully, muttering things like "my dad", "I won't let you go", etc. Apart from complaining to his own father, Master Malfoy obviously had no other options.
"Your dad... do you want me to tell you what your dad did in the past?" Moody roared. "I'm sure you'll be ashamed of your dad! You might even be scared to the point of peeing your pants!"
"Alastor Moody!" said Professor McGonagall, pulling Moody away from Malfoy. "You could have reported this to his headmaster instead of doing it this way!"
"That's great, I've been looking forward to having a good chat with my old friend Snape." Moody broke away from Professor McGonagall, then grabbed Malfoy's arm and dragged him towards the dungeon.
The farce in the hallway ended with the departure of Moody and Malfoy. Professor McGonagall looked at their backs anxiously, while the students excitedly discussed what had just happened. However, the incident did not end there. Draco Malfoy seemed to have forgotten what someone said, and he would be punished for his forgetfulness.
One night, before curfew, Ada stood beside an empty, wet stone wall, accompanied by a first-year Slytherin student, Malcolm Bardock.
"Open the door, what are you standing there for?" Ada said, "Don't tell me you don't remember the password to the common room."
"Pureblood!" Bardock gave the command under Ada's kind gaze. He didn't want to do what Ada asked, but the senior students didn't dare to do it, let alone Bardock who was only a first-year.
A stone door hidden in the stone wall slowly opened, and Ada strode in, with Malcolm Bardock following behind her dejectedly.
It was a long, low basement with rough stone walls and ceilings, and round, greenish lamps hung from the ceiling on chains. A fire crackled beneath an ornately carved mantelpiece, casting shadows of several Slytherin students sitting on carved chairs around it.
"This is the Slytherin common room. What are you doing here?" said a senior Slytherin student. When he saw Ada come in, he stood up with several people around him.
"You are not welcome here, please leave immediately!"
"Go back to your own common room, this belongs to Slytherin!"
The Slytherin students were very unfriendly, but they were restrained. No one swore or used wands. But as these people talked, more and more students came to the Slytherin common room, and many of them came out of their dormitories.
"Don't you think it's a bit damp here?" Ada said, "Don't worry, I have no intention of occupying your common room. I'm just here to take care of something and will leave right away after I'm done. I won't stay even a second longer."
As she spoke, Ada walked straight to an armchair. Some people wanted to stop Ada, but were scared away by her eyes. Ada sat down in the armchair and waited for someone she could talk to.
Cody Avery sat down opposite Ada, along with two other Slytherin students.
"Drizzt, this is Slytherin and you shouldn't be here." Cody Avery said.
Avery is a sixth-year student and a prefect, but he cannot represent Slytherin students, and no one can represent Slytherin now. It's just that Avery and Ada are more familiar with each other, so he stood up and talked to Ada.
"At the meeting on the train, I put forward several requests. Have you conveyed them to every Slytherin?" Ada asked.
"I got it across," Avery said. "Everyone here can attest to that."
The Slytherins present nodded one after another, but many of them were disgusted by Ada's bossy attitude and arrogance.
"Since you have conveyed it, and no one in Slytherin has expressed dissatisfaction to me," Ada said slowly, "then who can explain to me what happened in the hallway in the evening?"
The farce in the hall in the evening could not be concealed at all. So many people saw it, and Ada naturally knew it very quickly. It was just because Draco Malfoy did not appear in the hall at night, and Ada went to detention after dinner, so she came to the door at this time.
"Malfoy has been punished, right here in the entrance hall," said Cody Avery. Being turned into a ferret in front of so many students was no longer a punishment, but a humiliation.
"That's the professor's punishment, not mine," Ada said. "I don't know if I didn't explain it clearly enough, or if you didn't convey it clearly enough."
The common room immediately became filled with anger. The Slytherin students cursed Ada for being "arrogant" and "insolent", and many of them were eager to take out their wands.
"Want to fight me?" Ada said nonchalantly. She looked at the students holding their wands with contempt, "Who gave you the courage?"
Cody Avery and the two men beside him stood up and calmed the angry Slytherin, while Ada just sat there, motionless, without even taking out her wand.
"It will do you no good to offend a house all at once, Drizzt."
