The Hogwarts Emerald

Chapter 382 Participation is important

Chapter 382 Participation is important
On the evening of the first day of school, the Gryffindor common room was bustling with activity. Students from all grades gathered here in groups of three or five to discuss the Triwizard Tournament and whether they could deceive Dumbledore and force themselves to sign up for the competition.

Once the 17-year-old age limit was announced, Dumbledore's support among students plummeted, almost catching up with Snape. Although everyone knew that this matter was not decided by Dumbledore alone, everyone still couldn't help but blame the headmaster.

It's probably something like "Why don't you dare to fight with the minister?", something like that.

This age limit eliminated most students, leaving them without even the chance to register. Only seventh graders and some sixth graders were able to register.

For example, Ada and Cedric, who are in the sixth grade, can sign up for the competition. Both of them were born in 1977, but when Hogwarts opened in 1988, they were under the age of eleven, so the enrollment time was postponed to 1989.

Ada will be seventeen in October, and she will be eligible to sign up then, but Cedric will be seventeen even earlier than Ada.

Hermione's admission situation is similar to Ada's, but she was born in 1979. Even if her birthday passed before the registration deadline, she is not yet seventeen years old.

In the common room, Ada and the twins sat in the armchairs in the corner, with Angelina and others, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They were discussing what measures Dumbledore would take to prevent students under the age of seventeen from participating in the competition.

"Who will be the impartial judge of who is the warrior?" Harry asked.

"I don't know," Fred turned to Ada and asked, "Didn't Dumbledore tell you? He even told you that he was going to hold the Triwizard Tournament."

"I did, but it's the same as not saying anything." Ada recalled her conversation with Dumbledore. "Dumbledore said that the selection of the champion would be determined by 'a magical item', but he didn't reveal what the item was."

George waved his hand and said nonchalantly, "It doesn't matter. Whether it's a person or a magic item, as long as we deceive him, it will be fine."

"Yes, I think one or two drops of aging agent will work. Who of you is interested?" George glanced at the people around him, hoping that someone would get away with it with the two brothers.

Hermione said in a very worried tone, "But so many people died! The Triwizard Tournament is very dangerous!"

"Yes, it's dangerous," said Fred nonchalantly, "but what's the fun in life without a little adventure?"

"Besides, we're just signing up, not really participating in the competition," George said. "Although it's unpleasant to admit this, there's a high probability that the female student union president will be selected...Ah! Why did you hit me!?"

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to reach out and accidentally touched you." Ada said without any apology.

You are lying with your eyes open. There was such a loud "pop" just now. Who would believe you if you said you were careless? George covered the back of his head and looked at Ada with resentment.

Did the "pop" sound good? If it sounds good, it's a good start.

"Ron, don't say we don't care about you. Why don't you come and try it together?" Fred encouraged Ron like a little devil. "The important thing is to participate. Think about your brave behavior. How will those girls who usually ignore you look at you?"

"Snapped"!
"Why did you hit me? I didn't mention anything about the female student union president!" Fred also covered the back of his head. It sounded good, it was a good head.

Although Ida had been single for many years, she still had some basic insight and had seen some clues. Could Fred be more tactful when he mentioned other girls to Ron? He really tricked his brother in every way, leaving no blind spots.

"Do I need a reason to beat you two?" Ada looked at Fred and George respectively and said as if it was a matter of course.

"Why don't you need a reason to beat us?" Fred and George asked in unison.

"do you need?"

"Don't you need it?"...

The discussion on the first night of school came to an end with Ada and the twin Ouroboros saying "do you need it" and "don't you need it?". Probably many people in Hogwarts will have a beautiful dream tonight, in which they will win the Triwizard Tournament.

The next morning, the storm stopped, but the ceiling of the auditorium was still covered with gloomy clouds. Ida, Fred and George had breakfast while comparing the course schedule for this semester.

After passing the Ordinary Wizarding Level Examination in the fifth year, Hogwarts students have to re-select their courses in the sixth year, and the selection is made between professors and students.

Professors will set the entry threshold for advanced classes in their subject based on their own requirements.

For example, the admission standard for Snape's Potions class is "O", which means that only students with excellent test scores can continue to study Potions.

The entry threshold for Potions is very high, and it would be great if there were more than a dozen students from the four colleges combined. Of course, there are some classes with lower entry thresholds, such as Herbology and Charms.

Professors set the entry threshold, and students choose courses based on their grades and arrange their own time. It feels a bit like the division of arts and sciences, but magic cannot be simply discussed in terms of arts and sciences.

Ada had passed the Ordinary Wizarding Level Examination with straight A's. Theoretically, Ada could choose all courses, but she felt that she could give up some subjects and increase her free time.

Whether you use the "saved" time to relax or to improve your own abilities, it is much better than wasting it sitting in class.

First of all, the History of Magic class must be abandoned. Having endured Professor Binns' hypnosis torture for five years, Ada did not want to endure it any longer. Fighting against sleepiness was extremely difficult.

Professor Binns, if Hogwarts had an activity to select model workers, Ada would definitely vote for her ghost professor, but there is no need to continue teaching the History of Magic class.

The next thing to give up was astronomy. Stargazing was tiring for the cervical spine, and climbing the astronomy tower was tiring for the legs, so Ida gave up this course. Sorry, Professor Sinistra.

In fact, Ada wanted to give up Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Herbology was chosen simply because Ida didn't like taking care of those herbal plants, but for Professor Sprout and for Potions, Ida eventually kept Herbology on her schedule.

The reason for giving up the Defense Against the Dark Arts was simple. Ada had a conflict with the teacher of this course, so she naturally wanted to give up this course. But Professor McGonagall did not allow Ada to do so, so the Defense Against the Dark Arts remained on the curriculum.

Care of Magical Creatures and Ancient Runes were originally elective courses, and Ada was planning to give up both of them. But after thinking for a while, she decided to keep Ancient Runes. After all, it was quite interesting to listen to Professor Babel's talk show.

Hagrid, I'm sorry!

Charms, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Herbology, and Ancient Runes; this was all on Ada's schedule.

This schedule can’t be said to be too much, nor too little. Compared to the top students, Ada’s schedule is pitifully small, but compared to most sixth graders, Ada’s schedule is still quite large.

For example, Fred and George around me, the excellent grades they got together are not as many as Ada's, so naturally they don't choose as many courses as Ada.

This also means that Fred and George have more spare time. There's nothing else to say. I feel sorry for Filch for a minute.

However, before the registration for the Triwizard Tournament closes, Filch should not have to worry too much about Fred and George's enthusiasm, as their focus now is on how to make themselves one year older.
