The Hogwarts Emerald

Chapter 33 An unexpected gain

Chapter 33 An unexpected gain
Ada's stomach was filled with delicious turkey, roast meat and Christmas pudding, and she left the hall contentedly. When she left, she held some gifts drawn from the wizard lottery firecrackers in her arms, including a set of brand new Gobstone toys and a set of exquisite wizard chess.

In the afternoon, Ada had planned to study Professor McGonagall's notebook by the fireplace, but the fireplace in the lounge was occupied in advance by several students who were soaked all over.

The boys had been playing snowball fights on the playground for a long time. Each of them looked like he had just been fished out of the Black Lake. They stood by the fireplace, drying their clothes and themselves.

Without a fireplace, Ada had to stay in the dormitory. If her notes were replaced with comics and she was given a bottle of Kolo, she would be a complete stay-at-home girl.

She stayed there for the entire afternoon, and only when the turkey in her stomach was completely digested did Ada feel willing to leave the dormitory and go out to find food.

Ada ate some sandwiches and Christmas cakes, which finally soothed her brain, which was not clear due to hunger. However, being full and drunk is the easiest way to lose your dreams, and Ada is the same. She is now lying lazily on the bed like a salted fish, not wanting to do anything.

This happy Christmas made Ada relax for a while, and she even hoped that today would never end. But her hope was doomed to fail. Besides, she was a person with ideals and ambitions, so how could she really be idle forever?

Before going home, the twin brothers asked Ada to go to the mirror on the fifth floor more often to see if there really was a secret passage.

During the holidays, Ada would go over to take a look every day. The mirror was embedded in the wall as a whole. Its bottom was some distance from the ground, and there were complex patterns carved around it.

These carved patterns were full of mystery and always attracted Ada's attention, but she had never been able to find any clues from them.

Now that she thought of the mirror, Ada decided to go take another look. It was still early and curfew had not yet arrived.

Ada, wearing a cloak, stood in front of the mirror. She looked like a student who happened to pass by the mirror and stopped to admire herself. Even if someone saw her, it would not be strange.

Ada, who had been staring at the mirror, could hardly recognize herself in the mirror. She felt that she was being mocked by the "Ada" reflected in the mirror.

Her good mood for the whole day was ruined by this mirror. She kicked the mirror in frustration.

Ada used a lot of strength in this kick, but failed to cause even the slightest crack on the mirror. Not only was the mirror fine, but it also hurt her foot.

"It hurts... it hurts..." Ada, who had brought shame upon herself, squatted on the ground and massaged her gloriously wounded right foot with her hand.

This damn mirror really didn't give her any face! Leaving the comfortable dormitory on Christmas night and standing in the empty corridor, Ada felt that she was really bored and looking for trouble!

Ada swore that when the twin brothers came back, she would kill them both to vent her anger.

Ada, who was about to leave with her "injured" right foot, made a new discovery, and her steps stopped. She suddenly found that the patterns around the mirror had changed, which had never happened before!
It seems that my kick just now must have accidentally triggered some mechanism, so these patterns are different, Ada thought to herself.

The changes in these intricate patterns were not obvious, they were just slightly sunken, which was difficult to be noticed. If Ada had not looked carefully enough before, she would not have noticed it at all.

Ada observed carefully with her eyes and reached out to touch the sunken places. These changed places felt like the shapes of letters, but she couldn't distinguish them clearly at the moment.

After distinguishing the letters, Ada began to try to arrange them in order to restore them into a complete sentence. Her memory was originally very good, and it became even better after the wall hanging. It was not difficult for her to remember these letters.

Ada squatted on the ground, writing and drawing on the ground with her fingers, trying to restore the letters into words first, and then put them together into sentences one by one. However, there are many ways to combine them, and Ada couldn't put them together for a while.

She tried many combinations, but there were always some letters left. After a long time, Ada, whose brain cells had died a lot, finally pieced it together, and her frown finally relaxed.

Ada stood up and looked around the corridor, but she didn't see anyone else. Reassured, Ada opened her arms and said to the mirror, "Show me the world in the mirror!"

As Ada's ritualistic voice fell, the mirror in front of her slowly disappeared, and a dark entrance appeared in front of Ada. The entrance was not big, just enough for one person to pass through.

Ada took out her wand and whispered, "Luminescent!" She walked in with the light of the Luminescent Spell. After entering, there was a small platform, which could accommodate about three or four people. Below the platform was a tunnel extending downwards. Ada fired the light ball from the tip of her wand along the tunnel.

Under the influence of the light ball, Ada could also see the tunnel clearly. Its slope was not steep and it was easy to go up and down, but she could not see the end.

At the entrance of the tunnel, there was a torch that had been there for who knows how long. Ada lit the torch with the [Fire Spell], held the torch in her left hand, and walked into the tunnel with the wand in her right hand.

The only light in the dark tunnel was the torch in Ada's hand, and the only sound was her footsteps. She felt that she could even hear the sound of her heart beating in her chest.

The tunnel was not straight down, it had many turns along the way, and Ada didn't know how long she had been walking, but fortunately she finally reached the end of the tunnel.

Ada raised the torch high, trying to figure out where she was. However, the torch could only illuminate a limited area, so she couldn't see the whole picture. She just felt that she should be in the basement of Hogwarts.

Ada used the Luminescent Spell again, this time using a lot of magic power, and the Luminescent Spell became somewhat dazzling. She raised her wand high and launched the ball of light into the air, like a flare in the dark night.

With the help of the magic flare, Ada finally saw the place clearly. It was a large room with many statues of giants around the walls. They supported the room and seemed to be looking down at everyone who entered, giving people a very oppressive feeling.

There was nothing in the room except the scattered stones. Ada looked up at the statues, most of which were damaged, and a few of them had collapsed on the ground. It was probably because of the passage of time that they became like this.

This should have been a good hidden space, but the stones that kept falling from the statue reminded Ada that there was a possibility of landslide at any time.

Holding a torch, Ada walked carefully across the room to the other side, where there appeared another upward tunnel. It seemed that this was another entrance and exit.

Ada moved forward slowly along the newly appeared tunnel. This time she didn't walk too long before reaching the end. She pushed open a stone door in front of her, and the bright moonlight poured in.

The exit is located in a village. The majestic Hogwarts castle is not far away from the village. The name of this small village is obvious - Hogsmeade.

Fortunately, there were no pedestrians passing by on the road at that time, so no one noticed Ada who suddenly appeared here.

Ada had no plans to visit Hogsmeade on that cold night. Now that she had discovered the secret passage, she had naturally completed the task assigned by the twins, so she decided to return the same way.

After passing through the long tunnel again, Ada returned to the original platform. She was not in a hurry to go out. She could observe through the mirror at the entrance to see if there was anyone passing by in the corridor.

It took a long time to walk here, so when we got back it was already past curfew, so we had better be careful.

After waiting on the platform for a while, Ada came out of the secret passage. She first cast the [Illusion Spell] on herself, which made her feel a chill from head to toe, as if someone had just poured a glass of ice water on her head.

As the spell took effect, the color of Ada's body blended into the surrounding environment, like a chameleon. The "invisible" Ada returned to the common room with confidence and boldness.

Ada, lying on the bed in the dormitory, did not fall asleep quickly. Her body was very tired, but everything tonight made her very excited, as if every cell in her body was carefully recalling everything that happened tonight.

That night, from Hogwarts Castle to the giant room buried deep underground, and then to the wizarding village Hogsmeade, the whole journey seemed to be safe, but every moment gave Ada a sense of excitement.

Walking underground at Hogwarts late at night and exploring the castle's secrets was a fascination for her.

Ada now likes this exciting life more and more. Maybe she is not a stable person at heart. The Sorting Hat sorted her into Gryffindor probably because of this trait of hers!
