The Hogwarts Emerald

Chapter 280: Light Chaser

Chapter 280: Light Chaser (Additional Chapter 4 for the Alliance Leader’s Discussion on the Dao with a Sword)

I can follow you, like a shadow sleepwalking after the light.

I don't know why, but Ida suddenly thought of this line of lyrics. Even though Grindelwald never had a place for her in his heart, even though Grindelwald only regarded her as his most loyal subordinate, Vida still had no regrets, no hatred, and no resentment in her heart.

Perhaps in Vida's heart, being able to follow Grindelwald is a blessing! Vida is the light chaser, and Grindelwald is her light.

The grandparents left the bustling streets and returned to their home, which was once Grindelwald's base.

Apart from the decoration style of the 1920s and 1930s, there is nothing about this house that is related to Grindelwald. There is neither a portrait of Grindelwald nor the mark of the Deathly Hallows in the house.

If Vida hadn't brought it up, who would have thought that Grindelwald had planned those earth-shaking events in this house.

Perhaps for Vida, after leaving prison, he returned here to live alone because this place has his own memories! He no longer has the high spirits and the arrogance he once had, and all he has are the bits and pieces of his past with Grindelwald.

Ida didn't know how Vida slept that night, but she herself was suffering from insomnia. Ida was a little conflicted about whether she should tell him that she had been to Nurmengard and had spent a month with Grindelwald.

Even though half a century has passed, the name Grindelwald is still influential. Would revealing my relationship with him cause unnecessary trouble in my life?

The next morning, Ada went downstairs with dark circles under her eyes to have breakfast with Vida. After the meal, she was going to London. Although the gold-rimmed glasses can cover up, they cannot hide from the eyes of those who are interested.

"Didn't you get enough rest last night?" Vida asked, "Or are you homesick?"

Just over a month of life in Paris could not overshadow England. After all, Ada had lived there for more than ten years. There were her teachers, her friends, and everything she was familiar with.

"I just didn't get enough rest." Ada replied. She was still a little conflicted. Her emotions told her that she should speak out, but her rationality told her to shut up and remain silent.

"Have you packed everything? Clothes, accessories, and the gifts you bought." Vida asked again, "Also, remember to let me know when you arrive in London."

"It's all packed. Agnes packed it last night." Ada didn't intend to dwell on it any longer. "Grandma, when you were investigating my identity information, did you notice that I had disappeared for a month?"

Not only Vida, but even Alan knew that Ada had disappeared inexplicably for a month. They only found out the reason for the disappearance, but had no idea where Ada had gone during this month.

There are only three people who know about this, even the twins don’t know. How can Vida and Alan on the other side of the strait know the truth?

Vida shook her head and said, "I thought you were going to keep it a secret. Are you planning to tell me now?"

Everyone has their own secrets. Although Vida wanted to know everything about Ada and what she had done in the past month, if she didn't want to say it, Vida wouldn't ask.

"I spent that month in Nurmengard, and I learned a lot from Gellert Grindelwald." It felt so good to say it, and Ada felt a lot more relaxed in an instant.

Vida paused for a moment. She thought that Dumbledore had taken Ida to a secret place for teaching, or that Dumbledore had hidden her somewhere and would let her come back when the school was peaceful. She never expected that Dumbledore would let Ida go to see Grindelwald.

"Is he okay?" Vida asked softly. Her voice was not trembling and was surprisingly calm.

This question is a bit redundant. Living alone in Nurmengard for half a century is too lonely for most people to endure, let alone a long prison life.
Half a century of wasted time and loneliness took away Grindelwald's health. The once powerful Dark Lord had long since become old and frail, and now he was just still alive.

"He looks healthy. Although he looks a little old, he can eat and sleep well. He's in good spirits and even has the energy to argue with me!" Ada tried her best to say something nice. She couldn't say that Grindelwald was in poor health and was about to die!

"Time is really ruthless. He has reached this age in a blink of an eye..." Vida said softly. His light words concealed the deepest thoughts and countless helplessness. He was once full of vigor and vitality, but now only memories remain. Time is unforgiving. No matter how talented a person is, he can't resist the erosion of time.

The old age of heroes and the gray hair of beauties are the most helpless sorrows in this world. This kind of sorrow is the most sympathetic and the most regrettable.

"I know how to get into Nurmengard," Ada said, "and there aren't any guards there."

"He won't see me." Vida politely rejected Ada's proposal.

This should have been a very sad sentence, but Vader said it lightly. Vader could not face the old and weak Grindelwald, nor did he want him to see his twilight years.

Seeing each other and fighting is like not seeing each other, and being affectionate is like being ruthless.

Some things can only be understood, but not expressed in words. Ada had never experienced this, and she didn't know what it was like to be deeply in love, so she came up with such an unreliable suggestion.

"If you have a chance to see him again, say hello to him for me," Vida said.

She stood up and left the restaurant. When she reached the door, she denied what she had just said. She said, "Forget it. That's not necessary."

Ada and Agnes were the only ones left in the restaurant. Ada asked in confusion, "Agnes, did I say something wrong?"

"No, Mademoiselle is not wrong," Agnes responded, "You can't understand it because you have never experienced similar feelings. This is your luck."

After breakfast, Ada and Agnes did a final inventory to see if they had forgotten anything.

At the same time, Vida was lost in thought in an empty bedroom. She sat on a chair and looked out the window into the distance. The sky of Paris seemed to be covered by black silk fabric again.

The knock on the door woke Vida up from her memories. She put down the waist belt in her hand and asked, "Is it time?"

"Yes, grandma, I'm here to say goodbye to you." Adada walked to her grandmother.

After living here for more than a month, this was the first time that Ada entered this bedroom. The bedroom was fully furnished, but it was always empty and usually locked.

Vida gently held Ada in his arms and whispered in her ear: "I haven't given you the gift for being a superior yet." After saying that, Vida let go of Ada, and Ada's fair neck was wearing a rose gold necklace.

Vida asked, "How is it, do you like it?"

"I like it," Ada said. She picked up the pendant and looked at it carefully. She found that the rose shape of the pendant was composed of a string of letters. That was her grandmother's name - Vida Rozier.

The pistil of the rose is embellished with an exquisite emerald.

"This necklace has been with me for many years. Now it is yours." Vida said, "I hope it can bring you good luck."

The Paris branch has ended temporarily, and Ada’s life experience has been basically clarified. Now we will return to the main storyline!
