The Hogwarts Emerald
Chapter 198 Parting
Chapter 198 Parting
The night was as cold as water. The nights in the mountains were always exceptionally cold. The moonlight shone down, and the entire castle was covered with a layer of silver light. Ada curled up on the hard bed. In this month, she not only adapted to life in the mountains, but also adapted to the uncomfortable hard bed.
The flame in the fireplace was a little weak. Ada stretched her hand out of the warm quilt and snapped her fingers in the direction of the fireplace. Under the effect of magic, the flame was reborn in the embers, and the temperature in the room rose again.
During the day, the castle with only two people welcomed another guest. It can't be said that Phoenix can't be considered a person after all. Phoenix Fawkes visited the castle when the sun was shining brightly and brought Dumbledore's message: he would come to pick up Ada and return to Hogwarts the next day.
Ada was very happy after receiving the news. She had lived here for a month and she could finally go home.
During the month in Nurmengard, Ada had a clearer plan for her confused life and became more confident. This was her gain and what Dumbledore was happy to see.
He brought Ada here to visit the dangerous Grindelwald in the hope that Ada could find her direction in life and recognize her own value.
Because of the previous negligence, a rift has appeared in the relationship between Dumbledore and Ada. At this stage, he can no longer guide Ada. His actions and words will be regarded as having ulterior motives.
It will take a long time to bridge the gap between the two and get back to their previous relationship.
At Hogwarts, the only person who could replace Dumbledore to teach Ada was the Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall, but McGonagall was obviously not a suitable candidate.
Mag could teach Ada Transfiguration and set a positive example for her with her integrity, but she could not give Ada more. The heights that Ada would reach were something Mag had never touched in her life. This road was full of thorns and forks, which Mag did not have, and she could not effectively guide Ada.
Originally Dumbledore was the most suitable person, but starting with Benedict Foley, the shadow of Voldemort once again loomed over Hogwarts.
Time became urgent, and the cracks that could have been healed by time were magnified at this moment.
Dumbledore had a premonition that this year's Quirrell was just a small episode, and after the Philosopher's Stone, there would be a bigger conspiracy surrounding Harry and Voldemort. He needed to focus more on Harry and Voldemort, and he could not give Ada more care and guidance because Harry was the one with a higher priority.
That morning in the Shrieking Shack, Dumbledore thought a lot and thought of someone who could replace him, Gellert Grindelwald. This was a very risky choice, and Dumbledore was hesitant. He wanted to observe for a while before making a decision.
Plans can never keep up with changes. The internal strife in Gryffindor prompted Dumbledore to end his observation and make the decision to take Ada to see Grindelwald in advance.
Harry was the instigator of the incident, but the one who was treated unfairly was the innocent Ada. Everyone involved in this internal conflict was wrong, and everyone should receive the punishment they deserve.
But when it came to punishing Ada, Dumbledore hesitated again, which was rare even in his long life.
If Ada is not punished, it will be unfair to other students, and this unfairness will sow the seeds of hatred. Punishing Ada is fair, but it will continue to stab Ada in the heart, causing Ada to be alienated from himself and Harry, which is also what Dumbledore does not want to see.
Because of this thorny incident, Dumbledore had to pick up the option that he had temporarily put aside, so Dumbledore took Ada to Nurmengard to meet the man who had been haunting him.
Another reason why Dumbledore made this decision was that during the conflict, Ada, who had originally been indifferent, chose to lower her wand when facing Professor McGonagall.
It was a risky move, but Dumbledore chose to believe Grindelwald and also chose to believe Ada.
In the empty Nurmengard, neither of the two people in the fortress slept that night. Grindelwald, who lived on the top floor, found himself reluctant to leave this uninvited guest. He was indeed old and fragile.
The next morning, Grindelwald and Ada, who were sitting at the two ends of the long table, did not speak. Both of them seemed a little silent. The first time it was Grindelwald who broke the silence between the two, but this time it was Ada who broke the silence.
"I brought back some new food yesterday. It should be enough for a few more days. If you need it later..."
"That's not necessary." Grindelwald said as he lowered his head to cut bacon.
"I put cocoa powder and tea bags in the kitchen. If you want to drink some..." Ida pointed to the kitchen and continued. "That's not necessary either."
Ada slammed the table and stood up. She said, "Grindelwald!"
"Didn't the orphanage and Hogwarts teach you what etiquette and grace are?"
This kind of indifference and indifference made Ada feel that everything she did was redundant. Ada did not continue to eat her breakfast, but went straight back to her room and ignored the first generation of the Dark Lord.
Grindelwald was eating his breakfast by himself. Even Ada's angry departure did not disturb his mood for eating. Perhaps he was not in the mood for eating anyway.
After a while, Ada, wearing a sky blue robe and carrying her handbag, came back downstairs, just like the day she came.
"Don't you really have anything to say to me?" Ada asked, "After today, we may never see each other again."
"Since we won't see each other anymore, there's no need to say anything." Grindelwald raised his head, his voice without any emotion. "Or, you have feelings for every person who has passed through your life, then you are really emotional."
Ada, who had already picked up the bread to continue eating breakfast, put the bread down again after hearing this. She could not eat this breakfast anymore.
Ada didn't like parting, but she had to face it. She wanted to dilute the sadness of parting, but she found that Grindelwald's way was obviously more clever. Because Ada was so angry now that she couldn't think about parting anymore. She was eager to leave this decayed castle immediately.
Neither of them spoke, and the silence was broken only by the cry of a phoenix, and the magic at the entrance to Nurmengard was lifted.
Ada stood up and walked out. Grindelwald sat in a high-back chair and looked at Ada's back, still without saying a word.
After walking a few steps, Ada stopped. She turned her back to Grindelwald and said, "Goodbye. Also, don't die so soon. I will live according to my ideas and maybe change the world. You have to live well, otherwise you won't be able to see it."
Dumbledore on the platform looked at Ada as she came out and said, "I thought I had to wait a little longer before you could come out."
"If you go in and say goodbye, you'll understand why I left so quickly." Ada said, looking back at the words engraved on the entrance of the castle. Ada would never forget the days in Nurmengard.
"No need, let's go back." Dumbledore said with a smile, "I am very happy to see your growth and transformation, Ada."
Ada shielded her eyes with her hands and looked at Dumbledore beside her against the light. He had so much to say about the castle and the man in the castle, but he never said it out loud.
He simply stared at the entrance with the same look he had when he looked into the Mirror of Erised.
"Let's go. The two Mr. Weasleys have missed you. While you were away, they used Minerva's office as a common room." Dumbledore said, retracting his gaze and calling out to the phoenix Fawkes hovering in the sky.
There was a flash of fire, and Dumbledore and Ada disappeared on the platform in front of the castle.
Inside the castle, Grindelwald had been sitting there without making any sound until another loud phoenix cry was heard. Then Grindelwald stood up and slowly walked up the stairs.
The updates missed today will be made up tomorrow, sorry.
