The Hogwarts Emerald

Chapter 182 The Queen’s Chess Game

Chapter 182 The Queen’s Chess Game
Without further worrying about what was waiting for them ahead, Ada and the other two continued along the stone corridor, which was the only way to go. The corridor went downhill, and Ada felt that they might be underground at Hogwarts now.

I just don't know whether this place is deeper or the room in the secret passage on the fifth floor is deeper.

At the end of the corridor is a brightly lit room. Countless "little birds" as dazzling as gems are flapping their wings and flying around the room.

There is a heavy wooden door opposite the room. Apparently these flying "birds" are the key to passing the level because they are enchanted keys.

"That was Professor Sprout just now. Who is this?" Fred asked. "Could it be Madam Hooch?"

"I'm more inclined to believe it was Professor Flitwick." Ada reached out and took the broomstick George handed her. These brooms were placed in a conspicuous position, fearing that intruders would not be able to see them.

Looking at the keys flying everywhere, Ada felt a little scalp-tingling. She first used a deceleration spell to slow down the high-speed flying keys, and then wanted to use a freezing spell to freeze the keys.

The combination of the two spells made the keys fly more like floating. Although it didn't completely freeze them, it was enough. The twins rode on the flying broom and quickly found the key to open the door.

After Fred and George got off their broomsticks, they kept their heads down and didn't say a word, showing no joy at all for having successfully passed the test.

"You discovered it too?" Ada asked.

"It's too easy, so easy that even a first-grader can pass it." George said in disbelief. It didn't take them much time to get here. The longest part was the stone corridor.

Although they had been teasing Quirrell for being useless, if Quirrell didn't have some real skills, would he dare to try to get the Philosopher's Stone? The three levels he had just passed didn't seem to be able to stop him.

The second room was originally pitch black, but when the three people walked in, the torches in the room suddenly burned up, illuminating the entire room.

This is a huge chessboard. The towering chess pieces blocked the three people's way. They could only pass through here if they won the game of wizard chess.

"Even though we're only apart for a short while, I miss my brother Ron very much." Looking at the chess pieces, Fred said sincerely.

"Ada, it's up to you. Don't you always claim to be the queen of the chessboard? Show it off!" George said. The two brothers were not very good at wizard chess.

"Wait here." Ada said, then walked to the queen's position. The queen also left the chessboard and gave her position to Ada.

When Ada stood at the position of the black queen, the soldier in front of the white queen moved forward two squares, and Ada ordered the black soldier in front of her to move forward two squares as well.

In the next step, the pawn on the White Queen's flank also moved forward two squares like its compatriot, intentionally giving it to Ada to eat.

This is a common opening method, called the Queen's Gambit. By giving up the pawns on the queen's flank in exchange for a position in the middle of the board, it can also free up strong pieces on the board and gain an advantage in the situation.

When playing wizard chess with Ron, Ada liked to use this opening, and then Ron taught her a lesson.

If White had changed the opening, Ada might not have been very confident, but White chose to sacrifice the pawn on the queenside, so I can only say sorry. Ada has seen this game of Wizard Chess before.

Ada captured the opponent's chess piece and accepted the opponent's queenside sacrifice. Ada's forward soldier moved from d5 to c4 on the chessboard, and the black soldier fiercely knocked the white chess piece to the floor.

While the white queen was running rampant on the chessboard, Ada, the black queen, only moved one square, from her original position of d8 to d7, standing in the middle of a row of black soldiers.

The White Queen captured the Black pawn at position b7, and there was only another Black pawn between her and Ada. Although the White Queen had no facial features, the ferocity with which she knocked over the chess pieces was still frightening, and Ada didn't want to be hit by it.

The twins standing behind the black chess piece were also worried about Ada. George said, "If it doesn't work, let's run away. We are here to have fun anyway. There is no need to take such a hit." Ada waved her hand behind her, telling the two brothers not to worry about her.

The game continued, with the white pieces killing all around. After losing three pawns and a bishop in a row, Ada castled her king into a corner of the board, keeping it protected from the white pieces.

After losing the black castle (rook) that forced the white queen back, Ada finally got the chance to checkmate. She moved from f7 to g6 on the chessboard, in the same straight line as the white king.

The White King hid from g1 to f1, which was on the same horizontal line as his castle, blocking Ada's pursuit route. Ada moved diagonally forward and stood at h5, with only a white soldier between her and the White King.

The white chess pieces were forced into a desperate counterattack. First, they used the bishop to capture Ada's soldiers to form a checkmate, and then used another bishop to capture Ada's knight.

But all these were in vain, Ada's king was well protected, and these two checkmates failed to kill Ada's black pieces.

Now the black side where Ada is still has three soldiers, a castle and a bishop. On the white side, except for the queen, the two castles and the bishop are alive, and there is a knight alive, and even has one more soldier than Ada.

It was Ada's turn to go again. She used her magic wand to knock down the white soldier in front of her and stood at position g2. The black queen (Ada), who had only captured one soldier from beginning to end, killed the white king.

The white chess pieces reluctantly laid down their weapons. The white side had always had the advantage in this game, and even now there were still more white chess pieces on the board.

From the very beginning, the outcome of the game was decided when White chose to start with the Queen's Gambit.

As the saying goes, "Experience makes a good doctor." Ada lost to Ron so many times using the Queen's Gambit that she had long learned how to deal with such an opening. Winning was certain. It all depended on how she achieved victory.

Having won the game, the white chess pieces naturally made way, and Ada and the other two entered the next room.

As soon as she came in, she smelled a mixture of stinky socks and an uncleaned toilet, which made Ada want to go back and play another game of wizard chess.

A twelve-foot-tall troll guards the room, and its dull brain has not yet discovered the three uninvited guests.

Fred poked Ida and said, "Do you think this troll is the one that broke in on Halloween?"

On Halloween, Harry and his friends only knocked out the troll but didn't kill it, and the whereabouts of the troll were unknown to the students. But this troll was much taller than the one on Halloween, and Ada and the twins had never seen the one on Halloween, so they had such an idea.

The burly figure and unpleasant smell do make the trolls very threatening, and they are also resistant to magic. Trolls with magic resistance should be difficult to deal with, but they are too stupid. Their brains are not much bigger than raisins, which seriously affects their combat effectiveness.

When the giant monster rushed towards the intruder, swinging the club, the twins simply used a feint to the east and attacked in the west, allowing Ada to easily hit it on the back of the head.

After bypassing the smelly giant monster, Ada and the others reached the next level. In this level, there were only flames blocking the front and back doors, and seven bottles of different shapes placed on the table.

Fred and George picked up the parchment next to the bottle, on which was a riddle. From the riddle, it was known that one of the seven bottles was forward, one was backward, two were nettle wine, and the remaining three were deadly poisons.

Ada also took the parchment and took a look at it. There was Snape's handwriting on it. Ada felt that Snape's level was a complete insult to the challenger. Who could be stumped by such a simple question?
But Ada did not solve the puzzle, she just picked up the bottles one by one and looked at them, and then smelled one of them. Then Ada took out a small flat pot from her robe, drank a sip, and then handed it to the twins.

"Drink it. After drinking it, you can pass through the black flames ahead."

The twins took the small flat pot and each drank a sip. George asked, "You didn't make all these, did you?"
