Chapter 77: Busy First Day of School (Part )
Thanks to Crazy Dave's heritage of plant cultivation, even though the mandrake can sing, dance, and maybe do something else, it is still a plant. Ryan mastered the characteristics of the mandrake after observing it for a few minutes, and then pulled it out, repotted it, and filled it with soil in one go. When he finished, he found that others were still fighting with the mandrake in their hands.
That's right, it was a fight. Ryan saw more than one classmate having his fingers bitten by mandrake.
Ryan's neat and tidy act of repotting the mandrake earned Gryffindor another five points. After the Herbology class, the man took the opportunity to ask Professor Sprout a question that he had never figured out in his previous life, which was why so many students in the original book were petrified and had to wait for the mandrake in the greenhouse to mature instead of buying mandrake outside.
Of course Ryan's question was why he had never seen anyone selling mandrakes outside.
Professor Sprout replied with some pride that at least in the whole of Europe, only Hogwarts had successfully grown mandrakes, and wild mandrakes were only easy to be found when they were mature. But mature mandrakes would crawl out of the soil by themselves in the wild to find a suitable place to bloom and bear fruit. Therefore, in the market, mandrakes could only be seen for sale by chance.
Ryan thanked the professor for his answer and ran back to the castle to take a shower and change clothes. He felt that the mandrake was too much like the legendary ginseng doll, and he planned to use his own plant to find Professor Sprout to exchange for a mandrake for research.
In the Transfiguration class, Ryan and Hermione each added five points to Gryffindor. They successfully transformed the beetle into a beautiful button. But thinking that he had practiced for a long time in the grocery store while Hermione had not used a wand for the entire summer vacation, Ryan once again felt the pressure from the academic god. Because both Chinese and foreign parents care about their children's academic performance, but unfortunately, Ryan's parents only knew Hermione as a classmate, and it was not good to feel slightly inferior every time they compared.
After lunch, Ryan faced his last class of the day. To be honest, if every professor did not have the right to deduct points, he would even have the urge to skip class.
That's right, the next class is the class of Gilderoy Lockhart, the famous novelist, memory thief, third-class Order of Merlin, honorary member of the Anti-Dark Arts League, and five-time winner of the "Witch Weekly Most Charming Smile Award". He is the only one who can turn the class into a fan meeting, not to mention turning the meeting into a disaster.
But he had to go to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom with several thick and heavy novels on his back, feeling extremely unhappy.
As soon as he entered the classroom, Ryan found that it was noisier than usual. Many girls had excited expressions on their faces, and they were chattering about Lockhart with each other. It felt like the atmosphere of some celebrity autograph sessions.
Fortunately, these fans occupied the front of the classroom, so Ryan found a corner at the back of the classroom to sit down. Then he piled seven books in front of him to block his view in front of him and prepared to slack off in class.
The bell rang, and after all the students were seated, Lockhart walked in from outside the classroom. As soon as he entered, he cleared his throat to ask everyone to be quiet. Then he reached out and picked up the book "Walking with Trolls" from a little wizard sitting in the front row, holding it in his hand, showing the photo of himself blinking on the cover.
"Me," he pointed at his own photo and blinked, "Gilderoy Lockhart, Third Class Order of Merlin, Honorary Member of the Anti-Dark Magic League, five-time winner of the Witch Weekly Most Charming Smile Award - but I don't talk about that. I don't drive away the female ghost of Wan Lun with a smile!" "If you don't talk about that, then what are you doing now?" Ryan complained silently in his heart.
After he finished speaking, he waited for a while, expecting everyone to cheer him up. Sure enough, many little witches laughed. The laughter seemed to give him strength, and he continued complacently:
"I see you've all bought my complete set - great. I thought we'd start today with a little test. Don't be afraid - just to see how you've read and understood..."
It was this set of books that almost bankrupted Ron's family. This monopoly and money-making business was too unethical. Ryan couldn't help but cross Lockhart out in his heart. He had thought this person was quite annoying in the book, and now that he had met the real person, he found that he was even more annoying than in the book.
For the next 30 minutes, everyone was doing a questionnaire on Lockhart. It was full of questions like what color Lockhart liked and when was Lockhart's birthday, similar to the test for joining a fan club. Did Lockhart really intend to develop his fan club in the school? Ryan felt that the wizarding world should also ban this kind of commercial behavior from entering the school.
What's worse is that after Ryan spent half an hour barely finishing three large test papers, he had to endure Lockhart's narcissistic test review for a full ten minutes.
Hermione got five points for answering all the questions correctly. Ryan looked at Hermione in surprise. Hermione covered her mouth with one hand and mouthed to Ryan: "I just habitually memorize everything I read in the book."
"Hahaha, very good! Now, let's get back to the topic..." He bent down and took out a large cage covered with a cloth from behind the podium and put it on the table.
"Now - be careful! My job is to teach you to defend yourself against the worst evil the wizarding world has ever known! You will face the most horrible things in this classroom. But remember, as long as I am here, no harm will come to you. All I ask is that you remain calm."
When Ryan saw the cage, he immediately packed up all his things. He didn't want his things to be messed up by the elf.
Lockhart then, after some dramatic performance, opened the door of the cage containing the Cornish pixies. Lockhart was right about one thing, these little guys were indeed dangerous.
Although they have no magical abilities and prefer to play pranks rather than hurt others, they are not as kind as the Smurfs. They are small, flexible, strong, cunning and have team spirit. When dozens of elves gather in a small space, even many adult wizards can't handle them. And Lockhart, in order to show off, actually let them all out.
Is chaos and disaster inevitable? No, Ryan doesn't think so.
