The Shopkeeper of All Worlds in the British Wizarding World
Chapter 11: First Contact with Hogwarts
Chapter 11: First Contact with Hogwarts
Wednesday was the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and Ryan came to the classroom with excitement to pay his respects to the big boss behind the scenes. No, it was Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
Honestly, it was an amazing feeling to be sitting in a classroom less than ten meters away from the final boss of the story.
The professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts has been famous for being disposable for decades. But even so, every year there are stubborn wizards who come to apply for the position, which can be seen as the wizard version of the series "Why are there so few foreigners?"
So British wizards are not lacking in courage. Most importantly, all these failed professors are of high level. Even Professor Lockhart, who is known for being a fool, can get information from a group of experienced wizards and cast a perfect Oblivion spell on them without fail. As for another Umbridge, let's not talk about her political skills in driving Dumbledore away. Just look at her quill pen and you will know how high her attainments in the dark arts are.
The remaining professors include Lupin, who had been with the werewolves for many years but was not killed by the hostile werewolves. Professor Snape, the greatest double agent. Crouch Jr., who was able to hide under Dumbledore's nose for a year. Even Amycus Carrow, the Death Eater professor carefully selected by Voldemort in the seventh grade. They can all be called the elite among the elite.
However, Voldemort's curse was too strong, and in the end, only the crazy Lockhart and Umbridge, who made the prison their home, survived.
This year's Professor Quirrell was always famous for being a top student when he was in school, not to mention that after adding an attachment to the back of his head, he was upgraded to become Quirrell - Voldemort Fusion Professor.
Unfortunately, something went wrong when they merged, and Professor Quirrell did not show the characteristics of a strong combination at all. The classroom where he taught was full of the smell of garlic, and in addition to reading in class, he boasted about some adventures that could not be justified at all.
Ryan guessed that Quirrell was trying to hide himself and avoid being spotted by Dumbledore. But to be honest, this kind of situation that is so different from usual is more likely to be discovered by others. It seems that sometimes if two brains are incompatible, the combined IQ may be less than that of one brain.
After nearly a week of study, it was Friday, the time for the Potions class that Gryffindor students dreaded the most.
The potion class was held in an underground classroom. It was colder than the castle building, and with glass jars of animal specimens placed along the wall, it looked like the legendary evil wizard's lair, and many students were trembling with fear.
After class, after Professor Snape finished reading the famous opening speech, he took Harry Potter out to practice alone. Ryan watched this famous scene in the movie, and what came to his mind was that the son pays the father's debt, which is indeed a rule that applies to both the East and the West.
After arguing with Harry and finding an excuse to deduct a point, Snape began to divide everyone into groups of two and instruct them to mix and prepare a simple potion to treat scabies.
Unfortunately, due to the initials of his last name, Ryan was assigned to a group with Neville Longbottom, which meant that he not only had to complete the task of brewing potions carefully, but also had to keep an eye on Longbottom to prevent him from getting into trouble.
Thankfully, Longbottom was only a little clumsy and lacked confidence, but he was very serious about his work. He did a good job following the instructions in the book on weighing dried nettles and crushing snake fangs.
Professor Snape was walking around the classroom, inspecting. When Ryan's group was cooking slugs with tentacles, Snape criticized them for not cooking them overcooked.
Just as Ryan heard Snape praising Malfoy's perfect method of steaming slugs with tentacles, and stretched his neck to try to learn Malfoy's operation, he saw Neville putting porcupine quills into the crucible from the corner of his eye. Ryan was shocked and grabbed Neville's arm. Neville looked at Ryan with puzzled eyes.
Ryan whispered, "Doesn't it say on the blackboard that you can only put the porcupine quills in after the pot is taken off the fire?"
Neville opened his mouth slightly in surprise, it seemed that he had forgotten about this.
The system also jumped out at the right time:
——The shopkeeper prevented the Na’vi fryer incident from happening and gained 1 offset point.
Professor Snape appeared silently from behind, and then he circled around Harry and Ron at the next table, "Potter, why didn't you tell him not to add porcupine quills? Do you think his mistake shows you're good? Gryffindor lost another point because of you." It seems that Professor Snape has a deep hatred for James Potter.
An hour later, the class was over and everyone handed in their potions. Ryan found that Snape had written an A on the label of his potion. Well, long live passing.
After leaving the classroom, Neville kept thanking Ryan because this was one of the rare times he didn't blow up the crucible and was able to make a qualified potion without getting hurt. Ryan thought that Neville's operation was not that bad, but Professor Snape put too much pressure on everyone. Even though he was an adult soul, he felt his hair stand on end when Professor Snape walked by, not to mention the impact on Neville, a boy who was usually not very courageous.
At this time, Harry and Ron came from behind, and Neville stepped forward and said to them, "I'm sorry, you lost points this time." Harry smiled, but before he could say anything, Ron waved his hand and said, "It's okay, it's not your fault. We already knew that Snape was not a reasonable person."
Potions class was on Friday, so after Potions class, the first week of school was over. There were no classes in the afternoon. After lunch, Ryan took all his study supplies and went to the library to finish his weekend homework. After all, it was easier to finish homework in advance and then have fun than to rush to finish homework at the last minute.
When they arrived at the library, Hermione was already sitting there. Ryan greeted her and started to sit beside her to do his homework. To be honest, Ryan had always been a supporter and practitioner of the theory that "just getting enough grades is enough" when he was a student in his previous life.
In this life, he had planned to slack off for seven years after receiving the owl letter. However, he did not expect to go to Hogwarts with his elementary school classmates. In order to avoid a sudden drop in grades and arouse suspicion, and to avoid being stared at with contempt by acquaintances or even being written in letters and known by his parents, Ryan could only spend most of his time on studying.
This kind of life reminded him of the college entrance examination preparation in his previous life, which was not a good memory. But every time he thought about the supremacy of power in the magic world, and knowledge is power, Ryan felt that studying was not so tiring.
By dinner time, the two had finished most of their homework, and then went to the auditorium to eat together with their schoolbags on their backs. This reminded Ryan of when he went home with his classmates after school in elementary school.
"It feels so good to be young." Ryan, who is a 30-year-old man at heart, said silently in his heart.
