Devouring World Dragon

Chapter 49: A Battle Between Two Monsters

Chapter 49 A Dialogue Between Two Monsters

The icy snake eyes stared at the tiny figure before it, while the other looked down at the enormous creature with an equally inhuman, chilling gaze.

Even those unaware of the relationship between the two would be astonished upon seeing it:

"so similar."

Although they look completely different in size and appearance, their eyes are surprisingly similar, equally arrogant and haughty, and equally... devoid of any humanity.

Loki's three children—a wolf, a serpent, and a half-dead man—though vastly different in appearance, all share the same characteristic…

That's a monster.

The wolf is fond of devouring everything and doesn't even respect the gods; the serpent is enormous and can wrap the entire human world around its body; the half-dead Hela is naturally proud and arrogant, aloof and self-admiring. Odin and other beings, such as the frost giants and fire giants, jointly govern all the living, while she alone governs all the dead.

The three arrogant and conceited monsters looked down on the mediocre and thought it unnecessary to even speak to them. Only a very few people were recognized by them.

In this universe, Thor is one, Odin is another, and the progenitor of the fire giants, whose strength is unknown, might also be one. Besides them, even their father, Loki, might not be taken seriously by them.

And naturally, these three arrogant and haughty monsters would not have any agreement whatsoever with the humanity they had established for those insignificant specks of dust.

Brotherly love and sibling affection mean nothing to these three monsters; only strength matters.

Hela could clearly sense that even now, the giant snake opposite her was still eyeing her with predatory intent, filled with greed and a frenzied appetite. If she were given the chance to be even slightly careless, the giant snake would seize the opportunity and swallow her whole without hesitation.

A deep sense of vigilance lingered in the depths of her cold eyes as she spoke.

“My brother, I’ve come to tell you something.”

Beside her, a seemingly ordinary but cute little dog suddenly poked its head out from her feet, warily looking down at the enormous creature beneath her from the carriage.

The puppy looked ordinary, but the faintly visible skeleton on its body proved that it was extraordinary, so much so that it was not afraid even when facing such a huge creature.

The giant serpent beneath her, its flesh and bones bound by countless chains, merely stared coldly at her. Its vertical pupils slowly widened, revealing an invisible, captivating magic. Even a person staring at those pupils would be plunged into deep fear, or even become the serpent's servant, turning into a snake-man who would only sing and worship the serpent madly.

Then, a low laugh rang out.

"I don't think there's anything to talk about between us."

Suddenly, the inhuman vertical pupils were filled with a ferocious look, and its body began to move slightly. The thick chains binding the giant snake made a loud rumbling sound as they were tightened. As the giant snake struggled, violent underwater whirlpools began to rise on the seabed.

It was so hungry that it didn't intend to exchange any more pleasantries with its nominal and biological sister, preferring to swallow her whole.

As the giant serpent moved, Hela's body immediately felt an instinctive chill brought on by a strong sense of crisis.

Compared to her two incredibly powerful brothers, she was better at using her intelligence than her fighting prowess. The result of a direct confrontation would likely be that she would be swallowed whole, her soul falling back into the underworld to await resurrection after a long period of hibernation.

And just then...

"Wow!!!"

The puppy at her feet suddenly leaped out of the carriage. In a flash, its small body grew a thousand times larger, as if its skin had been peeled off and its flesh was filled with blood and gore. The terrifying body was awe-inspiring, even larger than an elephant. A ferocious and terrifying aura emanated from this bloodthirsty giant dog.

Garm, Hela's beloved dog, guards the entrance to Helheim. He is utterly loyal to Hela, and any spirit that disobeys Hela will be devoured by this vicious dog.

Although it appeared incredibly small in front of the giant snake, its bared teeth and fierce, menacing aura were like that of a bulldog, utterly disregarding the vast difference in strength, and determined to fight the giant snake in front of it to protect its master.

Seeing that the battle between the two was about to break out, Hela, who did not want to see them fight, frowned and then spoke.

“My father told me to tell you… he will find a way to get you out of here.”

Upon hearing this, the giant snake paused, stopped, and then a deep voice rang out.

"Loki? What's wrong with that guy? He actually wants to rescue me. Is he planning to openly oppose Odin?"

His voice was laced with mockery.

Clearly, the giant serpent showed Loki no respect whatsoever.

Hela's face darkened. She was clearly displeased with the serpent's tone. Of the three siblings, not all of them were disrespectful to Loki, their nominal father. Hela, who thought the most like a human, surprisingly showed Loki great respect.

"No matter what, Loki is still our father, and insulting him is a contempt for us."

Her voice became somewhat dissatisfied.

The giant snake let out an indifferent sneer.

"Perhaps." Hela's dissatisfaction grew stronger, and the fierceness that came from her nature was almost uncontrollable. She almost wanted to fight this giant snake to let it know that her "sister" was ultimately a monster, not someone to be trifled with, and not one of those "ants" that it could treat at will.

However, the reason Hela was able to become the Queen of Hel was precisely because she was calmer than her two brothers and was better able to suppress the restless nature and violence in her heart, thus making rational judgments.

Therefore, despite her dissatisfaction, she did not take any special action.

“My father has no intention of becoming an enemy of Odin. He told me that he would try to find a way to rescue you and Fenrir, but the condition is... you must be patient first.”

Hela's indifferent voice reached the giant serpent's ears. Its pupils stared at the tiny figure in front of it, as if it were pondering something, and it did not respond for a long time.

After a long while, the majestic head, as imposing as a mountain range, raised its head and slowly approached Hela.

The enormous vortex formed by its breath made the giant dog Garm feel deeply uneasy. It bared its long fangs and let out a low growl, attempting to intimidate the giant snake in front of it.

However, the giant snake paid no attention to the vicious dog that was terrifying to ordinary people, but to the tiny insect in its eyes.

The enormous, smooth pupils, like those of a lake, looked down upon Hela. Hela's slender figure was clearly reflected in its deep green pupils, which were as dark as an abyss. An invisible murmur of dreams rang out, both real and unreal, as if trying to swallow Hela whole into the depths of these enormous pupils.

Hela neither flinched nor yielded, but instead looked up at her brother with unwavering fear.

Immediately, a deep, loud, and cold voice rang in Hela's ears.

“I can endure... but if Loki fails to rescue me, the day I break free of these chains, the entire universe will be destroyed by my wrath, Jormungandr.”

……

Hela left. Although it was somewhat unpleasant, this first encounter still brought Hela what she considered to be valuable gains.

The giant serpent then lay back down in the depths of the sea.

The sea was silent, and the deep seabed was still and dark, except for a pair of eerie green vertical pupils that shimmered with an inexplicable light.

If the hunger of the past hundred years has taught the giant serpent anything, it is probably to remain calm and clear-headed amidst endless hunger and madness.

The chains deeply embedded in its flesh and bones, and the body gnawed to pieces by deep-sea predators, all forced it to calm down.

Whenever it goes mad with hunger, and struggles frantically out of reason, causing the chains to dig deeper and deeper into its flesh, it is forced to feel the endless pain of its exposed flesh being devoured by predators as its scales break.

Therefore, it had to learn how to control its hunger and its behavior in order to avoid this pain. It was only through prolonged torment and hardship that it was able to barely control itself from going mad.

However, it would never thank the gods who trapped it in this endless deep sea. On the contrary, its arrogance and pride were gradually washed away, while its inherent ferocity and violence increased day by day.

Every day, the serpent's rage grew, eventually twisting into a deep and pure killing intent.

"The day I return will be the day you all perish!!!"

However, the giant serpent understood that it alone could not overcome this predicament, a fact it had already experienced and realized firsthand.

Even though he is powerful, he can hardly contend with all the gods. Only by relying on the power of others can he have the opportunity to realize what he wants.

He had thought that the only one who could help him was Fenrir, the wolf who had suffered the same fate, but this time, Hela's arrival made him keenly aware of something.

“‘Father has no intention of becoming an enemy of Odin’…no intention…that’s a very interesting statement…”

The giant snake's pupils flickered with a hint of amusement and interest.

"Hela, was your deference and obedience to Odin nothing more than a pretense? Or was it because you thought I couldn't possibly reveal it that you made such no attempt to conceal your dissatisfaction with Odin...?"

"Interesting...really interesting..."

Thinking this to himself, he looked up and saw the sun chariot racing across the sky above the deep, dark seabed.

For over a hundred years, the old sea god, the sun god, the moon god, and many other deities had never forgotten this ferocious giant serpent and had always kept an eye on it. But eventually, as it did not exhibit any special or strange behavior, they gradually stopped monitoring it, which allowed Hela to secretly see it. This was unimaginable more than a hundred years ago.

Hela's arrival finally made the giant serpent realize...

"These guys have already ignored my existence... Perfect, it seems I can finally do something."

Its pupils flickered uncertainly, and the enormous, unbelievable spiritual power of the giant serpent then spread along the sound of a prayer that had been murmured in its ear for hundreds of years...

The giant serpent wouldn't wait in vain for someone to save it; this absolutely self-centered serpent only ever believed in itself.
