Devouring World Dragon

Chapter 18 The Fire Spirit's Revelation

Chapter 18 The Fire Spirit's Revelation
Meanwhile, Meng, who was hiding in the endless deep sea, had no idea about any of this, much less that the strongest war god in the heavens was now furious and gnashing his teeth at him to the extreme.

For him, although he thinks according to the thought patterns he had when he was human, the lack of memories of that time means he severely lacks a sense of identity with his human self. He's accustomed to eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating again, lacking ambition and desire; at best, he's just a beast with human thought processes. For Meng, whether it's eating the sun or devouring the sun goddess Sul, it's simply his normal act of eating, pure and simple, without any malice.

Of course... for those mortals who are now plunged into endless darkness and despair, the question of whether the serpent's casual act was evil is self-evident.

However, Meng clearly had no interest in dealing with those mortals; he didn't care about such things. But... sometimes, even if you don't want to deal with something, it will still end up getting involved with you anyway.

……

Midgard, in the south, in an unknown little mountain village.

The sky was pitch black, with only the moon and a few stars. The sparse moonlight shone on the small mountain village, but it only made the sparsely populated village seem more desolate. Only one house had a faint light coming from it, and under the flickering light, a number of blurry figures could be vaguely seen inside the house.

Inside the dimly lit room, a fire crackled and popped. A group of men and women, young and old, sat around the fire in an unusually quiet atmosphere. Everyone held their breath, afraid to breathe too loudly, their eyes fixed on the elderly woman closest to the fire.

“'la-call…”

Surrounded by the crowd, the old woman sat before the fire, her arms outstretched as if embracing it. Her face was covered with bizarre tattoos painted with various vibrant colors, her expression solemn and dignified. She rapidly chanted complex and incomprehensible words, somewhat like Scandinavian languages, yet not quite, as if communicating with someone. Occasionally, she would sprinkle some special powder into the fire, making it burn even brighter.

The burning bonfire, the crowd sitting around it, the eerie old woman—everything was extremely strange.

As the old woman chanted, the fire that had been burning quietly in front of her seemed to come alive. Accompanied by the old woman's complex and difficult words and tone, it began to sway restlessly. The flames grew larger and larger. The flames that were originally less than half a person tall expanded wildly and almost instantly swelled into a huge fireball several people tall in front of the old woman, almost burning up to the roof.

Amidst the involuntary gasps and cries of fear from the surrounding crowd, the flames transformed into a vaguely humanoid phantom shape under everyone's watchful eyes. At the same time, the old woman's chanting became increasingly rapid and high-pitched, and her body suddenly began to tremble uncontrollably as if she were having a seizure, as if something was attached to her body, causing her to lose control.

Finally, just as the old woman's voice reached its limit and the flames burned to their zenith, she suddenly stopped her movements and chanting...

The flames gradually returned to normal, just a small ball of fire burning quietly on the fire pit. Everything that had happened before seemed like an illusion. However, the old woman, exhausted after finishing her chant, suddenly went limp. If the people around her hadn't caught her quickly, she would have definitely crashed into the fire pit.

Even so, she was panting heavily and couldn't say a word, but someone handed her a bowl of water to quench her thirst.

The group looked at each other, unsure of what to say.

"Prophet, has the divine given us any revelation?"

After hesitating for a long time, someone finally asked the prophet, who was slowly resting, with reverence.

The revelation from the gods was undoubtedly a major event. For these fearless Norsemen, only the gods could instill any fear in them.

As if a floodgate had been opened, someone in the crowd then spoke with concern.

"Seven moons have risen, but the sun still hasn't appeared... Have the gods abandoned us...?" "Shut up! You're blaspheming!"

A stern voice rebuked.

And so, the whispers that had been going on ceased in awe.

No wonder, since the sky changed before the seven moons rose, the sun disappeared, the moon has appeared in the sky for the seventh time, but the sun has not appeared again, and the whole world has been plunged into darkness.

Without the sun, crops cannot grow, fishing at sea is difficult, and all sorts of familiar aspects of life suddenly face survival challenges.

So, in this state of anxiety, people everywhere were trying to find a solution. In this small village, all they could rely on was the old woman, who was regarded as a prophet and seer, hoping to seek divine revelation through her mysterious magic.

However, faced with everyone's expectations, the elderly prophet simply looked around at the crowd and shook her head.

"The gods... have not revealed anything."

"Om~"

Instantly, it was as if a pot had exploded, with everyone whispering among themselves, astonishment, disappointment, fear, unease... all sorts of emotions spread among the crowd.

In this era ruled by gods, facing such a situation without divine guidance, these mortals simply had no idea how to cope.

"However, the fire spirit gave me some inspiration."

But then, the words spoken by the prophet successfully suppressed the many clamoring voices.

A burly man at the head of the group looked at the female prophet in surprise, then asked cautiously:

"what do you mean……"

Seemingly exhausted from the previous spellcasting, the elderly prophet closed her eyes and whispered.

"The fire spirit answered my call; it told me something..."

The prophet slowly opened her eyes, her gaze filled with fear and dread.

"A powerful force... an unimaginable, incredible power... greedy and tyrannical, incomparably cruel, incomparably evil. On the day the sun disappeared, that incredible power completely swallowed the sun, and thus... the world will enter an era without the sun."
