Chapter 358, Section 050: The Talks

Chapter 358. The Talks (Part 050)

Jin Ziyue glanced in that direction, as if his vision could travel through the winding jungle all the way to the gate of the Goddess Palace.

He stood there quietly.

"Is Brother Jin interested in the Goddess Palace?"

Seeing that he was staring intently in the direction of the dense forest, Wen Fengsheng asked him a question.

"nothing."

Jin Ziyue turned his head and followed Wen Fengsheng's steps.

"The teahouse is just ahead, with private rooms prepared. We have people all around to keep watch, so there's no need to worry about being eavesdropped on."

The small teahouse is located on the side of the street next to residential buildings, in a very conspicuous location. Several residential buildings in the distance give off a faint sense of threat, which is probably where their people are hiding.

There were several men who looked like shop assistants by the roadside, not at their workstations, but chatting idly by the milk tea stall, occasionally telling a few dirty jokes, which made the female shop assistant making the milk tea cover her mouth and giggle.

Life in the small town moves at a surprisingly leisurely pace, and people seem to have gotten used to this way of life. Greeting each other and visiting each other's homes have become the most basic activities.

It's as if everyone's mind settles down in this place, allowing them to enjoy every moment of life.

Seemingly influenced by them, the Great Wall team and Jin Ziyue, Fu Xun and others subconsciously slowed down their pace.

"Squad leader, you've brought guests again."

A shop assistant in the distance raised his baseball cap and joked with a smile.

Wen Fengsheng waved to the person who greeted him.

"These are the people who survived according to the White Walkers in the vicinity. They were protected by the goddess and gradually settled down here. They were here a little earlier than us and can be considered natives."

Wen Fengsheng explained to Jin Ziyue and the other person.

"Don't be fooled by their smiling faces; they have all experienced life-and-death situations and the darkest moments in their lives."

“It may seem like nothing to us, but for ordinary people, it is already quite an achievement to survive and get out of that nightmare.”

Jin Ziyue remained silent.

"Alright, this is fine."

Wen Fengsheng led the two of them into a private room.

"Please take a seat."

Although it was a private room, negotiating at the dinner table always felt a bit awkward.

Fu Xun thought to himself, if it weren't for the fact that no wine or food had been served, it would have been like a salesperson drinking and socializing with clients outside.

“Originally, if it were just about negotiating terms, there would have been no need to go to such lengths to invite Brother Jin here. But today, we have something even more important to tell you.”

"For these kinds of things, face-to-face communication is more convincing."

Wen Fengsheng and his group of seven had already taken their seats on one side of the long table, while Jin Ziyue and Fu Xun sat opposite them in turn.

"Please speak," Jin Ziyue said.

Wen Fengsheng grinned: "Alright, let me give you a more comprehensive understanding of the Great Wall."

It's not the "Armed Mercenary Alliance," it's the "Great Wall."

"Our team originally belonged to the special operations group of the 'Martial Arts Guild' in District 9, specializing in emergency and sudden cases, and occasionally carrying out some cross-district activities. We have experience killing three thousand-year-old White Walkers."

He glanced at his teammates behind him.

Despite their different postures and expressions, Jin Ziyue could still sense the composure of soldiers emanating from them.

"As you all know, the Great Wall guards the frontier."

“The ‘Great Wall’ team is the highest level of security and defense organization. When we need to operate across districts, it must be because there is something that can threaten the safety of the entire 9th district, and we need to be mobilized to stop it at all costs.”

He spoke with a calm and powerful voice, his words carrying an unwavering determination.

"Therefore, we successively transferred nearly a thousand logistics personnel to this place to build fortifications and... prepare for war."

"I'm sure Brother Jin is aware that the current situation is far from optimistic. The other districts, through the puppet organization NA, are extending their reach into District 16, attempting to unite and suppress the veteran White Walkers of District 16."

"But once a real war breaks out, when the White Walkers need to replenish their strength, it will bring about a living hell."

"Can you imagine those monsters abandoning their precepts and biting people, regardless of whether they live or die?"

Just hearing this, Fu Xun could imagine the scene where tens of millions of humans in the city would be transformed into White Walkers with white-eyed shadows in a single frame, launching a frenzied counterattack under the command of the White Walker leaders, like a zombie siege.

"In times of peace, humans and White Walkers may be able to coexist even with their own secrets, but once war breaks out, humans will become the cheapest canned meat for the White Walkers."

“If this disaster spreads, District 16 will soon fall. The next one to be threatened is District 9, which is just across the ocean from District 16.”

"Won't the alliance stop it?" Fu Xun asked.

"An alliance?" Wen Fengsheng shook his head and smiled wryly, asking instead of answering, "Why do you think the 'Armed Mercenary Alliance' is a worldwide organization?"

"The century-long illusion of peace within the Alliance is also coming to an end. As humanity declines and gradually loses its position in the Council, District 9, though still predominantly human, can only barely maintain its self-preservation."

"The defeated humans in each district were unwilling to accept defeat and continued to fight actively, which led to the formation of the 'Mercenary Guild'."

"The White Walkers now hold the reins of the alliance. They're waiting for someone to make a move, someone to become the scapegoat. Once someone shows a weakness, the others will immediately attack them."

Jin Ziyue and Fu Xun remained silent.

“We’ve gone off on a tangent.” Wen Fengsheng scratched his head to ease the tension and said, “The significance of the Great Wall is roughly this.”

"While we are responsible for organizing and contacting mercenaries, we must also have our own independent armed forces. The 'Great Wall' squad is one of the elite squads in the 'Mercenary Guild'."

"Due to resource constraints and other limitations, the fact that we were able to be deployed to set up the first line of defense means that we have already used up most of our resources."

"And I'm not afraid to admit it, but we're short-handed right now. When we moved here, we prioritized logistics, so we only have seven people in terms of top-tier combat capability."

"Therefore, I have no choice but to approach you for cooperation ahead of schedule."

Wen Fengsheng's tone was somewhat helpless.

"Ahead of schedule?" Jin Ziyue asked.

“Yes.” Wen Fengsheng looked into his eyes and said, “It’s a bit abrupt to say this, so let me explain.”

He took a deep breath, his entire being refreshed and his face solemn.

"Brother Jin and Brother Fu, from the moment you became Fate Chasers, you have been our prospective comrades-in-arms."

Jin Ziyue's face remained calm and composed.

"It all started with Brother Jin," Wen Fengsheng said with a smile.

Old Jin?

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Yes, Brother Jin, he was my best friend. We had a life-or-death bond."

When he said those words, Wen Fengsheng could no longer hide the joy in his eyes as he recognized an acquaintance:

"In a way, you are Brother Jin's son, and also my nephew."

"When you chose the path of becoming Fate Chasers, Brother Jin knew that your future would inevitably be on the path of hunting White Walkers."

"Since he's hunting White Walkers, we'll inevitably cross paths with him someday. Given his connections, he shouldn't be unable to survive among human experts."

"You chose this path yourselves. Brother Jin will not stop you; he will only take care of you in secret."

“He approached me when I had just joined the ‘Wuji Guild’. At the time, I was involved in the Super Youth Reserve Project and had recruited a group of young researchers around your age. He encouraged them to contact you.”

Something flashed through Jin Ziyue's mind.

"Later, those young researchers did indeed grow up and became the top technological force in logistics. Fortunately, they seem to have a good relationship with you."

"The 'Breakfast Group'." Jin Ziyue understood everything.

"Yes."

Wen Fengsheng readily admitted it.
