Chapter 164.034. Nightmare

Chapter 164.034. Nightmare
Jin Ziyue hadn't gone far; the woman in the kimono was still standing under the tree waiting for him.

"Are you going to find Haruko?" she asked, stepping forward. "The child is with me now."

"Speak," she said, tapping her head with her long, slender fingers and giving a dreamy smile, "We'll live together forever."

A gentle breeze blew by, and a few strands of hair fell down the woman's temples, giving her a more maternal appearance.

"Do you want to see her?"

Jin Ziyue always felt that there was something strange about this woman, and her mental state was somewhere between being clear-headed and confused.

The energy of "Sleep Life and Death" is like the white mist emanating from ice, both hazy and terrifying.

This bizarre ability, capable of using dreams as its core and even transcending dimensions, would likely take over a century to develop.

Wait, a century?
Jin Ziyue's gaze became more serious, and he said, "You are not Sui Mei, you are [Sleeping Life and Dream Death]."

The woman's eyes didn't blink; she mechanically glanced to the side, frowned, and said, "I don't understand what you're saying. I just want to stay with Haruko."

It completely assumed the identity of the mother, occupying the woman's body, but its mind was not yet fully developed, so its speech was somewhat incoherent. Jin Ziyue recalled the Dragon Horse; at that time, his destiny was also nearly awakened. Once the destiny possessed its own consciousness, it would gradually encroach upon the host's consciousness.

The host with a weak will is almost powerless to fight back and can only let the parasitic word grow stronger and then control their body.

Now, he was probably facing a "destiny" that would completely take over the White Walker's body and integrate him into the White Walker's world.

Strictly speaking, this is a demon rather than a White Walker. Even stripped of its physical body, it still retains most of its energy and can leisurely search for a new home.

More importantly, the reason why this prophecy left Jin Ziyue helpless was that he and the other party were not in the same dimension; the difference between reality and dreams was an insurmountable barrier.

"You're Haruko's friend. Do you want to play with Haruko? I can bring you in..." Homi's words seemed like a murmur, becoming melodious and vast in the thick fog, until the last syllable disappeared into the shade of the trees.

Jin Ziyue did not answer immediately. The other party's lie was naive and clumsy. Dreams were probably more dangerous places, and he did not have a similar ability to rely on. However, Qingzi's consciousness was probably really in the other party's dream.

He carefully surveyed his surroundings. Fog had risen, and the howling wind seemed to call to its companions. The ghost trees resembled skulls that had died unjustly, their forked branches like outstretched ghostly claws, and the dark, intertwined branches looked like hollow, unpierced eye sockets.

The surrounding scenery has clearly changed to some extent.

A maze? Or an illusion?
He grabbed the dagger in his hand and slashed his thumb; blood flowed from the wound.

Jin Ziyue frowned.

He possesses the [Carbon Aura], so under normal circumstances, knife wounds will only turn into dust and will not break the skin or cause bleeding.

He wasn't sure if the bleeding was a virtual illusion, but the ability of [Eagle Body Carbon] was indeed suppressed.

At that moment, the girl's soft moans suddenly rang out, swirling and lingering in my ears.

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"

Jin Ziyue looked up at the dark forest, sensing something was wrong, but still couldn't detect the other party's whereabouts.

"Qingzi, is that you?" Jin Ziyue asked.

The girl continued to sob uncontrollably, her sobs ringing out like a bell in the ethereal environment, but she showed no sign of responding.

The night air grew heavy, so quiet that even the rustling of insects could be clearly heard.

But the girl's cries still lingered in my ears, as if they were two different sound channels.

Jin Ziyue parted the bushes and discovered a small guesthouse.

He looked down at his feet and realized that he was probably in a dream.

They must have been caught off guard. The "Sleep and Death" ability has the power to pull people into a dream, and if someone is killed in their dream, they are likely to be in grave danger in reality as well.

The girl's cries seemed clearer as Jin Ziyue's footsteps echoed on the wooden floor of the guesthouse. Finally, he saw a pool of blood around the corner.

As I turned the corner, I saw a woman's corpse, gnawed beyond recognition. She sat against the wall with her legs outstretched, blood dripping from her disheveled hair. A weeping girl clutched her shoulders, shaking her but unable to wake her.

Jin Ziyue watched all of this as if he were an outsider.

The girl looked to be in her early teens, with two short braids. Judging from her appearance, she was Haruko Sada.

【Sleeping and Dying】recreates the scene when Homi was killed by the White Walkers a few years ago.

Jin Ziyue did not understand its intention.

"what!"

Suddenly, the long-dead woman's corpse sprang to life, letting out a shrill scream. Her mangled face, covered in countless teeth marks, came close, and she opened her gaping maw to pounce on Jin Ziyue.

The crying girl vanished like smoke in an instant.

Jin Ziyue kicked it away.

But he found that his kick missed its mark. The woman's body seemed to be transparent, but her nails dug into Jin Ziyue's leg, tearing through his pants and leaving streaks of red blood.

Jin Ziyue felt a sharp pain as he realized that his opponent was incredibly strong and he couldn't break free. With a grim face, he activated his light blade and, with a swift motion, severed his leg, along with the trousers, from the knee joint.

The intense heat of the laser instantly scalded the wound, causing it to bleed and emit a burnt smell.

The whole process took less than a second; he was so busy attacking and biting the woman's corpse that he managed to escape by hopping on one leg.

The pain felt very real.

Jin Ziyue maintained his balance, shifting his weight to his only foot, and coldly watched the bloodthirsty monster.

The monster abandoned his severed leg and chased after him.

Jin Ziyue tiptoed with his remaining foot to ensure his explosive power and muscle activation were normal, then used the wall for support and hopped away step by step. His hops were incredibly high-frequency, as if his legs were spring-loaded, propelling him several meters forward. As long as he had enough support to maintain his balance, he could break into deeper parts of the house.

The other party also twisted into a strange posture as it climbed up, like a mindless zombie.

Haruko must also be in the dream created by the other party.

Jin Ziyue bounced around while pondering how to escape the dream.

Generally speaking, someone who thinks frequently while retaining their own consciousness is in a shallow dream state. If someone calls them from the outside world, they can naturally wake up. However, being trapped in someone else's dream is obviously a different story.

Just as he was thinking, the wall in his hand suddenly slipped away. Jin Ziyue's hand had already reached out, and before he could shift his center of gravity, he lost his footing and fell forward. But he quickly rolled over and landed again to absorb the impact.

When he turned around, the disheveled woman was already standing in front of him.

Jin Ziyue could feel the excitement and fervor emanating from the other woman, to the point that drool kept spilling from the corners of her mouth and her ten fingers trembled uncontrollably.

This is Sleeping Death mimicking the White Walkers' predatory instincts.

This volume might be a bit scary; I've been a bit tired from writing lately. Writing 4000 words a day is too difficult...
