Chapter 150, Section 021: Confession

Chapter 150, Section 021: Confession
The next morning.

Haruko Sada groggily opened her eyes and found a man sitting cross-legged beside her bed.

She was taken aback at first, but quickly realized that she was currently occupying the man's bed.

Last night's dream wasn't so pleasant.

When Sada Kyosuke realized he was dead and nothing he could do mattered, he could only pray that Sada Haruko would visit him in his dreams more often.

When a person dies, their life ends and all their sins are forgotten. Haruko Sada shouldn't be holding a grudge against her deceased father.

However, when the other party heard that Haruko Sada had traded her abilities for his belongings and the girl's freedom, he advised Haruko not to give away her abilities.

However, whether it's her personal freedom or Sada Kyosuke's belongings, all of this is predicated on a deal with Jin Ziyue.

He even tried to get close to Jin Ziyue to see if he could regain this ability and live the ideal life.

Haruko Sada was so angry she was grinding her teeth. In the end, she was still just a tool to him.

People always think about gaining greater benefits, and when others lend a helping hand, they turn their backs on them after they've served their purpose.

Haruko Sada once thought that all human societies were like this.

She recalled the identical, indifferent faces of those around her. Beautiful worlds are all alike; ugly worlds are diverse in their own way.

Despite Sada Kyosuke's desperate pleas, he eventually turned on her and shouted angrily, leaving the girl completely disheartened.

Just when things were at a stalemate, a very comfortable feeling made her feel as if she had fallen into a cool lake. Her body swayed and sank, sinking, as light as mud.

Then I woke up to a bright, sunny day.

"Did I say anything strange last night?" Haruko Sada asked Jin Ziyue, who was sitting by the bed.

"No." Jin Ziyue got up and went downstairs to heat up some milk. "I'll brush my teeth and wash my face first."

At that moment, Haruko Sada grabbed his hand: "Don't go."

Jin Ziyue stopped.

"Stay with me for a moment."

The man nodded and sat down next to her.

"Can you tell me your story?" Haruko Sada asked with a sorrowful expression.

Jin Ziyue looked at her, hesitant to speak.

“You said it yesterday!” Haruko Sada feigned anger. “Then let me ask you, who do you want to see in your dreams?”

"girlfriend."

"Huh?" Haruko Sada was clearly taken aback, her heart suddenly feeling like a jumble of seasonings, a mixture of emotions.

"No way, you really do have a girlfriend." Haruko Sada pouted and said, "I thought no one would want a loser like you."

"So, she's also the 'bad person' you're talking about," Jin Ziyue said.

"Hmph!" Haruko Sada said sourly, "They really are a perfect match."

Suddenly, it dawned on her: wait a minute, if it's something that needs to be met in a dream, then it must have already passed away...

She suddenly felt a pang of regret: "Did I offend my sister?"

"It's okay. She likes to hear compliments like that."

"What kind of praise is 'rotten person'?"

Jin Ziyue didn't speak. For a moment, he recalled the scene of them bickering when they were young.

The boy made strange noises, trying to get the girl's attention in a childish and cheesy way, only to be met with a cold glare from her each time. Their conversations were a battle of wits, with "praise," "blessings," and "greetings" probably making up half of the exchange.

"Hey!" Haruko Sada called out to express her displeasure.

"I can tell, you seem to really like her," the girl muttered dejectedly. "But at least don't close your heart completely; leave some room for others to develop a relationship..."

Jin Ziyue looked at her.

Did I blurt out something in a moment of weakness, which could be considered a confession?
The little girl's heart was pounding.

Fortunately, Haruko Sada mustered her courage and said with a stern face, "What are you looking at? I'm a woman with developmental potential too!"

"You're only sixteen, but I'm already old."

"Sixteen-year-olds can't date! I'm an adult! And besides, you're only in your early twenties, right? Please, can't you act like a young person, be energetic, passionate, and decisive? What kind of skill is it to always act like you're indifferent to life and death and keep everyone at arm's length?"

Jin Ziyue gazed at her and said gently, "I'm old, and my whole soul is utterly bored; but you're different, you can still be a simple and happy young girl."

Haruko Sada couldn't continue the conversation and said resentfully, "I'm such a big idiot! Why do you treat me like a child!"

“You’re still a child at heart.” Jin Ziyue patted her head.

Haruko Sada angrily pushed his hand away and stormed into the bathroom.

"You stinking jerk! You big idiot!" the girl said angrily to herself in the mirror.

……

A moment later, Haruko Sada came out carrying a towel.

"What are your plans for the future?" Jin Ziyue asked.

"I don't know, are you in such a hurry to get rid of me?" She glanced at Jin Ziyue.

“If there are no problems, I’ll help you find a job,” the man said.

"You really want to get rid of me?" Haruko's voice rose a few decibels.

“I can’t take care of you forever. I might die in the street one day, while you still have the best years of your life ahead of you.”

"Don't give me that nonsense, all I know is that you're not allowed to leave me!" Haruko Sada shouted.

“I’ll take you to find your stepfather,” Jin Ziyue said.

Haruko Sada snorted: "Don't forget that I was sold to a brothel from him."

"If there are any misunderstandings that need to be clarified, it's best to do so as soon as possible. Otherwise, time waits for no one, and no one knows what might happen tomorrow," Jin Ziyue said.

Haruko Sada was furious: "You knew everything? What exactly did I say in my dream?!"

"Don't be too hard on yourself."

"Don't talk to me in that old-fashioned tone. It makes me angry just hearing you speak!"

"I won't go to work today. I'll go with you to meet your stepfather later."

"Okay, okay," Haruko Sada pouted. "I'll apologize."

"Ah."

……

The shadows of green trees outside the car window drifted by slowly.

Tell me about your stepfather.

"My stepfather's name is Koji Sawada. He's the kind of person who doesn't smile much," the girl said, hugging her knees and burying her head in them as she recalled the past.

“I know he’s very good to my mother, and he takes good care of me for her sake too, but he’s just not likable at all. His profession is also very effeminate, and he always looks gloomy.”

"I once thought that he used his stepfather's name to lure me to Xiuchuan Zongzheng's place." The girl's eyes dimmed, and she remained silent.

Jin Ziyue knew that she had remembered the truth—the irresponsible father who had actually abducted her.

“I don’t know why that contract of servitude eventually ended up with my stepfather, and he obviously had no room to resist.”

"Isn't it ironic that the person who wants to destroy me is my own biological father?"

Haruko Sada laughed self-deprecatingly.

"At least he's dead now, and you still have your own life to live."

Haruko Sada rolled her eyes at him: "What kind of comfort is that?"

While they were talking, Jin Ziyue had already driven his beat-up pickup truck to a residential area.

The high walls were covered with broken glass used for security purposes.

“This is it,” Haruko Sada said, and was about to open the car door and jump out.

"Wait a moment."

"what?"

Jin Ziyue narrowed his eyes and pressed her back to her original position:
"Don't move here, wait for me to come back."
