False evidence

Chapter 48 Charcoal Kiln

Chapter 48 Charcoal Kiln
I was wondering why Pearl said she was going down the well but didn't even use a rope.

Once inside the well, it was immediately discovered that no rope was needed at all.

Surprisingly, there were wooden steps all around the well walls that one could step on.

"Mengniu, go down the flank!" I reminded Meng Chao.

The pearl below seemed to be saying in a low voice, "Shut up if you don't want to die!"

I didn't say anything more. I groped my way down while squeezing my eyes shut, trying to adjust to the darkness below as quickly as possible.

Gradually, I began to feel that something was wrong.

However, before they could figure out what was wrong, they had already reached the bottom.

After Meng Chao came down, he was able to vaguely see the situation by the light filtering through the well.

I was taken aback; this didn't look like an ancient well at all.
All around, there were piles of wood, stacked layer upon layer, like a pagoda, all the way up to the bottom of the well.

It's more like a warehouse for storing timber than a well!

Because they were covered with red cloth strips, the three could not communicate with each other through eye contact.

Pearl forbids people from speaking, which inevitably creates a considerable sense of oppression and discomfort.

Just as I was about to communicate with Meng Chao using gestures, Pearl suddenly pulled me, signaling me to follow her.

The pile of wood is said to resemble a pagoda because the gap in the middle of the top layer is only big enough for one adult to fit through.

Below, there is a considerable amount of space, and among the piles of wood, there are at least three gaps that allow a person to pass sideways.

Seeing Pearl enter one of the gaps, I patted Meng Chao and waved for him to follow.

I instinctively reached into my pocket to take out my phone to light the way, only to realize that my phone was missing.

At that moment, Pearl suddenly made a movement.

The next second, a strange light suddenly appeared in front of her.

I couldn't help but wonder to myself again, "What exactly does this woman do?"

Just as they were trying to figure it out, Pearl suddenly stopped.

Seeing her squat down, I subconsciously squatted down as well.

At that moment, by the faint blue light in front of her, I could vaguely see that something seemed to be hanging in front of her!
Pearl seemed to hesitate for a moment, then began to squat down and walk forward again.

Seeing that she was no slower than before, I was secretly amazed.

This woman was not only stunningly beautiful, seemingly untouched by worldly concerns, but she was also a martial arts expert.

While squatting may seem simple, achieving a normal walking pace requires considerable lower body strength.

Thinking of her long, slender legs, I couldn't help but feel a little distracted.

However, this unrealistic idea was quickly replaced by a sudden fear.

I followed Pearl down to the bottom of the suspended object.

At first, I couldn't see what it was, but when it got right in front of me, I instinctively looked up and gasped.

It turned out to be a weasel, only slightly smaller than a mongrel, with a huge tail!
Goodness, how can there be such a big weasel?
I nervously circled around it from below, and when I looked up again, I saw that the big yellow weasel was hanging by its neck with an iron wire. It looked like it had already died, but there was no sign of decay.

His body was stiff, his tongue was half sticking out of his mouth, and most of the worst thing was that his eyes, which had lost their luster, were mostly bulging out of their sockets. Under the light, it looked as if he was looking down at me from above!
I was quite startled and turned around to warn Meng Chao to be careful. But I saw him stop in one spot, his face turned to one side, as if he were observing some details.

I took two steps back and patted him on the shoulder.

He raised one hand towards me, and then reached his other hand into the gaps in the wood, as if to rummage for something.

Influenced by him, I also went to look at the timber on the side.

The more I looked at it, the stronger that feeling that something was wrong became.

Suddenly, I remembered something, so I quickly stretched out my palm and made quick measurements in the gaps.

"I go……"

After confirming a detail, I couldn't help but exclaim in a low voice. But just then, a soft "creak" came from Meng Chao's position.

Immediately afterwards, the noise spread with lightning speed.

"Go back immediately!"

Thinking about what was about to happen, I ignored Pearl's advice.

He said he was retreating, but instinctively he grabbed the still-dazed Meng Chao and sprinted forward.

Feeling the gap widen, he hurriedly swung his arm forcefully, throwing Meng Chao forward.

In the nick of time, a loud rumbling sound was heard, and the timber behind them collapsed.

I was determined to be pinned down, but at the critical moment, someone pulled me up and saved me from disaster.

After calming myself down a bit, I looked back and felt a chill run down my spine.

This place turned out to be another similar location to the previous one, a pagoda-shaped pile of timber. It was probably because of Meng Chao's actions that the stacked timber had a chain reaction, and the gaps from where they came, along with a small section of space, had been completely blocked by the collapsed timber.

"What are you doing? Don't you want to live?" Pearl said angrily.

Seeing that Meng Chao was unharmed, I turned to look at her and saw that she was furious. Suddenly, I felt like something was missing.

Pearl disregarded her own 'rules' and asked in a panic, "Where's the red cloth?"

That's when I realized that the red blindfold was gone.

Hearing the nervousness in her voice, I wanted to turn back and look for the strip of cloth, but when I looked up, I was instantly stunned by what I saw.

Even excluding the collapsed corner, the space beneath this 'pagoda' is still about the size of a small living room.

Right above this space, there were more than a dozen large yellow weasels with different colored furs hanging!

Without the obstruction, I could see much more clearly.

These hanged weasels all had bulging eyes, as if they were staring intently downwards, and I was right at the point where their gazes were focused!

"Quickly close your eyes!" Pearl rushed over and pulled me.

But at that moment, I couldn't listen to anything else.

The most deadly thing is that I have already seen that, in the middle of the hanged weasel, there is a human corpse hanging!

It resembled a middle-aged man, also sticking out his tongue and bulging his eyes. But there seemed to be a sliver of life in his eyes, as if he were staring at me with a strange, eerie laugh!

Meng Chao leaned over and said, "Look, what I found..."

"Get out of my way!" Pearl was truly enraged; before he could finish speaking, she shoved him aside.

Pearl seemed to want to say something more to me, but I looked in horror at the collapsed side.

An ominous premonition quickly spread throughout my body, and I could no longer control myself, roaring:
"Get up! Climb up quickly!"

"What's going on?" Meng Chao asked in astonishment.

"This is a fucking charcoal kiln!"

I had just shouted when I suddenly heard a loud rumble.

The sound was very muffled, as if it came from the ground.

Hearing this, I didn't know whether to feel lucky or unlucky.

Thinking more about the unfortunate aspects, I urged the two of them to hurry upstairs.

Meng Chao listened to me, but as soon as he climbed onto the pile of timber next to him, he fell down with a crash.

The stacking of timber is interconnected; the collapse of that corner has loosened the rest, making it impossible for anyone to climb.

Sensing the terrible thing that was about to happen, I disregarded everything else, gritted my teeth, leaped up, grabbed the hanging corpse in the middle, and struggled to climb upwards...
