Chapter 407 Suzhou-style Noodle Shop
After hanging up the phone, Pidan asked me anxiously, "It seems like something happened to Anxin. Should we call Brother Gao?"
"I don't think we need to for now." I shook my head.
The number that called me was An Xin's, but the content of the call was absolutely unexpected.
It sounds like An Xin has been kidnapped.
Actually, that was my initial thought too, but after listening to the stranger say a few more words, a strange idea popped into my head—he wasn't a bad person, but rather someone who had just wandered into a strange place, with no relatives or friends, and was eager to seek help.
I can't explain why I think this way, but I'm very certain of it.
"I'll go with you," Pidan said as he put on his clothes.
"No, you have to go to the hospital with Mom for a check-up today."
"Sanqi!" Pidan slammed his hands on the bed. "Don't you think you're getting more and more domineering and self-righteous? Didn't you hear what was on the other end of the phone..."
"Shh!" I said, "If I were domineering, I wouldn't put a woman's call on speakerphone for you. Others don't know my situation, but you do, right?"
Seeing her still staring at me, I sighed, "I insisted on taking Mom to the hospital for a check-up today because..."
"Stop talking!" Pidan covered my mouth. "Then you should take Monkey King with you, or better yet, take Erpang. He's a better fighter than Monkey King. Also, call Mengniu and tell him to go over there too!"
"Okay, it's up to you."
When I got downstairs, I didn't see Grandpa, but I saw Erpang slurping a bowl of tofu pudding.
"Uh...sanzi!"
Erpang put down his bowl. "Master Yao went out for a walk with Third Grandma early this morning. Before he left, he gave me... this."
When he pulled out a red card that looked like a wedding invitation, I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
He casually took it, glanced at it, and handed it back to him, saying:
"Keep this safe. Forget about the tofu pudding, let's go out for braised pork noodles."
"Braised pork noodles? Stewed pork, you mean?"
"It's not the same concept. It's more like white meat, thick slices... You'll see when you get there."
……
This noodle shop near the school used to be my go-to spot for a treat.
I haven't been here for a while, and I'm really craving it.
I locked the car and rushed inside. In the blink of an eye, I saw a girl at a table waving at me. Then I looked at the man across from her who was looking back at me, and my appetite instantly vanished.
"Hey! It's been so long!" the proprietress greeted me with a smile. "What are you having for dinner today?"
"You're getting prettier and prettier, boss lady!" I grinned. "I brought a friend. Two bowls of braised pork noodles, two pieces of braised pork, and an extra pork chop!"
"You little rascal!" The proprietress pretended to poke my head.
Erpang and I walked over to Anxin's table. The man stood up and asked in a low voice, "Which of you... is Sanqi?"
"I am!" Erpang glared at him and shoved him back into his chair.
The loud crash drew a surprised look from the proprietress.
I quickly grabbed Erpang and whispered to him, "Did my wife send you a message?"
“Hey, she said you’re here to fight, and it might even involve knives and guns! I brought my weapons…” Erpang said, pulling a rolling pin out of his sleeve.
"I……"
I quickly pulled him down to sit and snatched the rolling pin from his hand.
I tossed the rolling pin onto the table, sat down next to An Xin, and stared silently at the man across from me. The man's voice on the phone sounded unfamiliar.
But in reality, the guy in front of me is very familiar.
He was the first person to call me this morning, which is why I hung up.
My gaze was definitely unfriendly; normally, given the other person's personality, they would have backed down long ago.
But this time, he didn't avoid my gaze.
After staring at me for a while, he took two things out of his pocket and handed them to me with both hands.
I glanced at it; it was a student ID and an ID card.
I ignored him and turned to An Xin, asking, "What happened?"
An Xin glanced at me sideways and said, "I didn't have class this morning, so I wanted to go for a longer run. I ran into him on the roadside, and he asked to borrow my phone..."
I looked at the man, who had already placed his student ID and national ID in front of me.
"I called you. You didn't answer, so I thought I'd try borrowing someone else's phone..."
Before he could finish speaking, I threw the two documents back at him. "Brother Tao, what are you up to this time? Do you think we still have anything to say to each other?"
I get so angry when I see this bastard.
I don't need to see any ID. It's just this face that I've been looking at for three years, and it's bothered me for three years.
He's Gu Haitao!
Gu Haitao leaned back in his chair, stared at me for a while, and said as if to himself, "Where should I begin?"
I glared at him and then asked An Xin, "What happened next?"
"I saw he actually called you, and the way he talked... I thought he was your enemy, you know... but then..."
Gu Haitao suddenly raised his voice, interrupting her, and said to me:
"You are Sanqi! You know me, and you hate me? But let me tell you, you and I... to put it another way, you might think you and I are very familiar, but this is the first time I've met you."
I was trying to keep my temper in check, but when I heard him speak so loudly, I was stunned.
The voice sounded exactly like the man's voice on the phone, but I know Gu Haitao very well. Even though we haven't seen each other for a while, his voice shouldn't have changed like that.
Moreover, it's quite obvious that this change isn't due to a disease, but rather... the voice he makes is completely inconsistent with his actual age!
Gu Haitao looked at me, his eyes flickering slightly, as if he was observing my facial expression.
He quickly added, "I know how to start our conversation."
He took out his phone and placed it next to the ID I had thrown back at him. "I've been using this phone to make calls. Now I know my name is Gu Haitao, and I'm a student in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Agricultural University. I'll graduate in less than a month."
My father's name is Gu XX, my mother's name is Luan XX, and I have a younger sister named Gu Tingting. Two thousand six hundred yuan was just transferred into my bank account two days ago; this is supposedly the living expenses my mother sent me. The total remaining balance in the account is three thousand and eight yuan and ninety cents.
He picked up his phone, turned it to the side, and positioned it so that it faced his face.
The phone screen lit up, and he immediately held it in front of me. "My face can unlock this phone! All of this proves that I am Gu Haitao. But... I have to tell you, I am not Gu Haitao!"
"This is a complete mess!" Erpang looked at me. "Is this bastard crazy?"
"Keep your mouth clean!"
Gu Haitao's face suddenly darkened, and he pointed at Erpang, saying, "I only asked you to help me with something, not for you to annoy me! Besides, at my real age, I could be rich even if I were your husband!"
