False evidence

Chapter 22 Evidence of Falsehood

Chapter 22 Evidence of Falsehood
Halfway through the drive, Pidan's mom finally couldn't help but say to me, "Child, you're still young, don't be too impulsive."

I shook my head, turned the steering wheel, and said nothing.

Pidan patted the back of the driver's seat: "Don't be so tight-lipped. Can't you just tell us what's wrong with you?"

Perhaps I was too wronged and really needed to confide in someone, or perhaps, from the moment I first saw the preserved egg, I was destined to be unable to resist it.

So, with a bit of anger, I recounted everything that had happened during this period.

Pidan was furious after hearing this: "Is there no justice in this world? Do rich people think they can turn black into white? And that restaurant owner is no better!"

Pidan's mom, surprisingly, shared the same temperament and retorted indignantly, "Alright, child, don't be upset. In a couple of days, I'll go see your school leaders. If we don't clear things up, I'm not leaving! By the way, I have several friends living nearby. Let's go together!"

"Thank you, thank you Auntie..." I smiled wryly.

I am naturally grateful to this hot-tempered aunt, but I don't think it's of any use.

Just then, the light turned red, and the car stopped at the intersection. I was about to say something more to the mother and daughter when I suddenly saw an elderly man with a cane crossing the zebra crossing.

Perhaps subconsciously, the old man glanced into the car as he passed the front of it.

Upon seeing the old man's face, I instantly felt a chill run down my spine.

"Call Gao He quickly!" I shouted urgently, while glancing in the rearview mirror and shifting into reverse to back up the car.

Pidan and her mother asked anxiously, "What happened?"

"Call Gao He, quick!" I shouted again.

The next second, before the car could reverse, the old man with the cane was leaning sideways on the front of the car.

"Oh my, I thought something was up, turns out it's a staged accident!"

Suddenly, Egg Mom perked up, rolled up her sleeves, and was about to get out of the car, shouting, "Don't you even know where we are? I can't handle an old man like this..."

"Don't move! Fasten your seatbelt!"

I yelled and, ignoring the cars behind me, swerved the steering wheel sharply and floored the gas pedal.

The car reversed with a frantic engine roar, its rear end slamming into the car behind it, sending it swerving to one side.

At that very moment, the yellow light flashed, and a minivan rushed out from the side, seemingly out of control, and hurtled towards us at an angle.

I steeled myself, adjusted my direction, and hurriedly retreated.

The van came straight at me. The old man, who was leaning against the front of my car, was thrown to the ground. He probably didn't even realize what was happening before he was pulled under the van.

After ramming my rear end into three cars, I had nowhere left to retreat. Looking through the windshield of the van at the driver's hysterical gaze and hearing the engine roar, I gritted my teeth, shifted gears, and slammed on the gas pedal again.

The van, completely disregarding the fact that it had run over people, rushed forward at the same time, and the two vehicles collided with a loud crash, with smoke immediately billowing from their front ends.

I reached under the passenger seat and grabbed the tire wrench. As I opened the door, I shouted to Pidan and her daughter, "Run! Run back! Call the police!"

The driver's side door of the van was already open. I jumped onto the deformed hood of the Jetta and kicked the van door hard. Just as I was about to smash it with a wrench, the window shattered, and another heavy wrench swung out.

As I backed away, I kicked the car door twice more.

The car door was deformed and couldn't be opened for a moment. The people inside reacted quickly, realizing my intention, and threw out a wrench.

I was so focused on dodging the wrench that I didn't expect the other person to throw a knife afterward. My face and mouth burned, and when I looked again, the other person had already jumped out of the other car door. Seeing the other person cross the road and disappear from sight, I hurriedly looked back, but I couldn't see the mother and daughter.

Just as I was getting anxious, the back door of the Jetta suddenly opened, and Pidan leaned out, his face streaked with tears, and said, "We're still in the car..."

I breathed a sigh of relief. The change was too sudden. The two women hadn't even realized what had happened, so how could they possibly think of running away after hearing just a few words from me?
All told, we had only been gone from the police station for about thirty minutes when we saw Gao He again. Pi Dan and her daughter were taken back to the station; I was supposed to be taken to the hospital, but I felt particularly resistant to seeing Gao He, and since it was close to the place I was staying, I insisted on going to Monkey's clinic instead.

"What the hell is going on?" the monkey yelled as soon as it saw me.

He was quite professional; he kept talking while taking out his instruments to stitch me up.

After the wound was treated, he plopped into a chair. "A knife wound? My mouth is split open. Unless I get plastic surgery... it's definitely disfigurement. Can you speak? If you can, say something!"

"Can he even speak like this?"

Lin Dan, who was responsible for bringing me here, couldn't help but scold him. She turned to me and remained silent for a moment before saying in a low voice, "Captain Gao asked me to apologize to you. It was our oversight. He said... he said you reminded him to continue protecting Pei Xiaofan and her daughter, but he..."

I forced a laugh, and the wound on the corner of my mouth throbbed with pain.

Someone threw a knife through the car window and cut my face and the corner of my mouth. It wasn't minor, but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't speak at all.

After confirming this, Lin Dan, out of a sense of duty, still asked me, "Did you see the other driver's face clearly?"

I nodded.

"Is it Sun Jing?"

I nodded again.

Lin Dan rubbed his forehead, shook his head and sighed: "He's the one who's truly out of control. Perhaps... he's been spying on us from the moment we were inspecting the photo studio. He even followed us all the way to the team, waiting for you to leave so he could take the opportunity to achieve his final goal."

I asked, "How is that old man?"

"Two fractures, but not life-threatening."

"It's true what they say, bad things live on for a thousand years." I scoffed, but the movement aggravated my wound, causing me to gasp in pain.

Lin Dan didn't ask any more questions, only telling me that there was surveillance footage at the scene, which would clearly show the facts, and that I shouldn't worry. My damaged car had been sent to a repair shop, and the cost would be covered by Gao He personally.

Finally, after sending another colleague away, Lin Dan couldn't help but ask me, "You reacted very quickly at the time. Did you see something beforehand?"

"No." I shook my head firmly.

Lin Dan hesitated for a moment, then left.

After roughly ascertaining the situation, the monkey said indignantly, "You reminded them to protect the preserved egg, and they actually forgot? Is this how humans do things?"

I shook my head. "It's not their fault."

I'm telling the truth, and you really can't blame Gao He. I did remind him to continue protecting Pidan and his mother, but even I think that kind of reminder was somewhat irresponsible.

Perhaps, my encounter with Yang Wudao really did teach me something called 'physiognomy' without me even realizing it.

However, everything I see and hear is only relevant to me personally.

For others, especially the police, what I've said is nothing short of blatant evidence!
