Chapter 8 Script Comprehension and Dialogue Matching Training
Chapter 8 Script Comprehension and Dialogue Training
"Brother Le, the director just said that I should go directly to the film set tomorrow."
"Pfft! What did you say?"
Seeing that they had finished work, Liu Le went outside to smoke a cigarette and bought a bottle of iced tea. Upon hearing Lu Ze's words, he immediately spat out the iced tea, his face filled with surprise.
He told me to be at the film set entrance at 5:30 tomorrow morning, saying it was for me to work on the scenes.
Liu Le carefully looked Lu Ze over, then chuckled and patted Lu Ze on the shoulder, laughing and scolding, "You're really lucky, kid. I didn't introduce you to any special roles, and you still managed to meet a benefactor just for carrying a grenade. That's quite something!"
Is it good fortune? Lu Ze doesn't think so. If he hadn't completed the positioning lesson last night, this so-called "good fortune" wouldn't have come his way. In the end, it's just that he had a tiny bit of skill, and the director just happened to notice him. This only shows that the director has a pretty sharp eye.
However, Lu Ze wouldn't say that. He just grinned and continued Liu Le's words: "Brother Le, you're my benefactor, aren't you? If you hadn't gotten me this job, I wouldn't have had this opportunity."
After listening, Liu Le laughed, patted Lu Ze on the shoulder, shook his head and didn't mention the matter again. He had been in Hengdian, a place full of all sorts of strange and monstrous people, for a long time and had given up his fondness for flattery. Besides, Lu Ze was just a young kid, and his flattery wasn't that impressive.
"Alright, alright, there's another job you can do this afternoon. Are you planning to go home or keep working?"
"I think I'll go home and rest. I've been running in the trenches for so long today, I'm exhausted. I drank too much last night and my head is still buzzing. I'll go home and rest for half a day."
Lu Ze refused Liu Le's offer, waved goodbye to Liu Le, and then strode home happily.
After walking for a while, Lu Ze glanced around and suddenly saw Yang Dan. Yang Dan was standing on the other side of the road, seemingly waiting for her turn, but her expression was not very good.
Lu Ze didn't want to bother people when they were in a bad mood, so he decided not to greet them. He just kept his eyes on Yang Dan until Yang Dao seemed to notice something, turned around, and met Lu Ze's gaze.
They saw each other, and it wouldn't be right not to greet each other, so Lu Ze waved to Yang Dan and called out, "Sister Dan, are you waiting for work?"
Yang Dan forced a smile. How long had it been since she last waited at the entrance of the film studio? At least a year or two. This time, she gritted her teeth and came out because of the pressure of life; to put it bluntly, she was forced by money.
Because she hadn't been waiting for work in a long time, she felt a little embarrassed, afraid that someone she knew would recognize her, especially the "sisters" she met in Erfeizi's WeChat group. She was afraid of being ridiculed and mocked.
It's not just men who care about their image; women do too.
She still felt a little awkward when she met Lu Ze. Although the two were very familiar with each other, it made her feel a bit disappointed.
"You can't trust anyone when you're working in Hengdian, because you never know if the person who's really nice to you might become more successful than you and then turn on you the moment they see you."
Yang Dan heard this from a "senior female roommate" she shared an apartment with before she moved. After saying that, she left, saying she was going home, and never came back.
"Busy, Sister Dan?"
"Hmm? Mm-hmm."
Because she recalled her previous memories, Yang Dan was a little stunned. She didn't react for a moment after hearing Lu Ze's words, and then nodded somewhat flusteredly.
"I'm done working, I'll head over now?"
"Oh, okay! Be careful on your way home."
Watching Lu Ze's departing figure, Yang Dan breathed a sigh of relief, but still pulled her hat brim down a bit and glared at the extras who were staring at her chest as if they had never seen a woman before.
Lu Ze threw his satchel on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), then filled a basin with water and wiped himself down. He still smelled that same odor, which made him want to vomit.
I lit the gas cylinder, boiled a pot of water, and then cooked two packets of instant noodles and a chicken sausage. Because I don't like drinking soup and prefer strong flavors, there wasn't much soup, and some of it stuck to the pot.
After finishing his meal and washing the dishes, Lu Ze went back to his room, lay down on the bed, and stared at the ceiling, his mind already wandering. Today was a day to be happy because it was the first time since he became an extra that the director had kept him on as part of a group of extras. Such opportunities were rare and extremely precious for extras.
He tasted the benefits the system brought him for the first time. An opportunity he thought he would never get was now falling right into his lap, and in what time? Just two nights, or rather, just one night!
Lu Ze didn't use the elderly simulation course, so it's fine to say it was just for one night.
This high efficiency and speed fascinated him even more, and he wanted to learn even more!
"Host detected to be in a resting state during the day. Enter teaching mode?"
"Yes."
He instantly fell asleep, and a flash of white light brought Lu Ze to the system space. Looking at the many courses in front of him, a greedy look appeared in his eyes; he wanted to do better.
Tomorrow's filming is for a war drama, and extras usually have a few lines, so Lu Ze turned his attention to the "script comprehension and dialogue training course".
Unlike the positioning training, when Lu Ze entered the scene, he saw a desk surrounded by bookshelves. He picked up a stack of bound papers and put them on the desk. Lu Ze realized that it was a script, and he had read the play before.
After flipping through the pages, Lu Ze was stunned again. In the thick stack of scripts, almost all of them were blank pages, with only five or six pages containing words, story background, main character's personality, and lines.
"To proceed with the first stage, please look at the script in your hand, and then take the pen on the table and write down the mood and tone you should use at this moment on the script cover."
"Your mood and tone, right?"
Lu Ze glanced at the script. He seemed to remember the lines. The original protagonist was supposed to be very angry and shouting them out. So he picked up a pen from his desk and wrote six words on the cover.
"Anger, resentment, roar."
"Snapped!"
Without a word, the system lashed out with a whip. The burning pain made Lu Ze realize his mistake immediately. His brain was working frantically out of fear of the pain. He no longer wanted to complain about things like "this was acted by the lead actor." Anyone who's worked on a film set knows that sometimes, due to the limitations of the lead actor's skills, the director has to ask the lead actor to express the character in a different way. This kind of thing has happened before.
Therefore, even when he encounters a scene he is very familiar with, he still has to carefully consider it, immerse himself in it, and think about how to act out these lines according to the screenwriter's ideas or according to the most realistic mood and tone.
"You've betrayed me! You keep saying you love me! But you're fooling around with this man! Is this the love you speak of? Then tell me! Where is your love?"
Looking at the line, Lu Ze pondered for a moment, muttering to himself, "Where? Where? How exactly should I say that?"
Lu Ze hesitated, picked up the pen, and with trembling hands crossed out the six words he had written on the cover last time, and then rewrote: "Unwilling, heartbroken, crazy, sarcastic".
"Snapped!"
"Madness, jealousy, hatred, roaring."
"Snapped!"
After writing it about ten times and being whipped more than ten times, Lu Ze took a deep breath, straightened his back, and then hastily wrote something in a small area on the cover.
"Cold on the surface, crazy on the inside, resentful, and hateful."
The whip did not strike again.
