Chapter 100 Ramon
Chapter 100 Ramon (Part 1)
The doctor that Willow mentioned was quickly brought in.
Thales carefully observed the strange man in front of him.
He was probably in his fifties, almost bald, but his appearance was strikingly different. A huge nose sat atop his narrow face, and his dark green eyes darted around. Coupled with his unpleasant smile, he looked bizarre and unsettling.
“You must be the new prince,” said the oddly-looking old man, who was wearing a yellow fur coat that was a little dirty from being rubbed in the dungeon and smelled of strange medicine. He chuckled inexplicably and bowed slightly: “My name is Ramon.”
"He's a doctor."
Thales frowned.
He waved his hand, signaling Wyatt to close the barracks door left behind after the soldiers had left.
"You know my identity?"
Ramon awkwardly leaned forward, nodding slightly from time to time, his smile seemingly frozen on his face, making him look like a magician.
"Hehe, news always spreads very quickly, faster than you think... especially since the soldiers around you are all talking about your name."
Putila stepped forward and said slowly, "Very well, there is someone here who needs medical attention. If you were a doctor..."
He looked at Jorah.
Ramon chuckled and craned his neck to glance in Jorah's direction.
“I can try, but I can’t guarantee it,” he said, walking toward Jorah, then suddenly turning back, his eyes bulging as he stared at Thales with a strange look. “I heard that Your Highness is heading north to Exter?”
Wyatt and Rolf frowned.
Thales nodded.
This old man.
It's a bit strange.
It's a bit eerie.
But he was, after all, a doctor.
“Hmm,” Ramon walked slowly to Jorah’s side, seemingly deep in thought. “A good journey… Exter.”
The strange doctor carefully observed Jora, who was trembling slightly and had a pale face.
“Ah, a brave warrior… and a super-class swordsman with the power to finish off enemies.” Ramon lifted Jora’s limp arm, his eyes flashing.
"He has a bad habit when wielding his sword..."
"I prefer slashing and face-to-face sword fighting..."
"I'll probably start experiencing pain in my right upper arm and back muscles after I turn sixty..."
Under the astonished gazes of Wyatt and Rolf, he slowly unwrapped Jorah's bandages.
"Cuts and lacerations, chest and back."
"The injury wasn't treated immediately; I don't know if it was because the situation was urgent or because I wasn't aware of it..."
"It's a shame he endured it for so long..."
"I can recognize this wound as a vampire's claws even with my eyes closed..."
Thales' expression hardened.
This doctor.
There seems to be some trick to it?
"Moderate blood loss, physical weakness."
"The key issue is that the two wounds were not treated properly, and they have become quite festering..."
"If we don't deal with it right away, I bet he can hold on for another day? One night? Hehe..."
Ramon turned his head, clicked his tongue twice, looked at Thales, and smiled without saying a word.
"What's wrong?" Putile asked slowly, "Can you save him?"
"hey-hey."
Ramon stared at Thales, a thoughtful look on his face.
"Most doctors are probably helpless at this point."
Thales frowned.
"They can only rely on luck, waiting for the swordsman to heal himself or die," he said slowly, exhaling a breath of hot air.
Everyone frowned slightly.
“Wait,” Putila began quietly, “you mean, the vast majority?”
Ramon just chuckled.
Thales raised his hand, gesturing for Putila to ask him the question.
The second prince looked at Ramon earnestly and asked, "You mean, you can save him?"
Ramon blinked his right eye, and his nose twitched strangely.
"I didn't say that."
"But I can try. A little medicine, some wound treatment, some cutting away the rotten flesh... As for the chances of successfully saving him..."
Putire, standing next to Thales, frowned.
Ramon grinned again: "It depends on the payment, you know, the payment."
Thales raised an eyebrow.
“You will be paid what you deserve,” Thales added without changing his expression. “A sufficient amount—guaranteed by the honor of the royal family.”
It's not his money anyway.
"Haha, you've misunderstood," Ramon said, setting down the dying Jora, his eyes gleaming.
“I only ask one thing,” he squinted, scrutinizing Thales closely, “I’ve had enough of this dungeon…”
He forced a friendly smile and said, "While His Highness was traveling north to Exeter."
Please take me with you.
There was a moment of silence in the barracks.
Thales looked at Jora, who lay on the bed with a pale face, and gently clenched his fist.
Take him away?
“You know I have no right to let you go,” Thales said, suppressing his discomfort. “I am not the commander here.”
Doctor Ramon grinned, revealing his upper teeth, and sneered, "But your father... is the commander of the commander's commander here, isn't he?"
"And instead of letting me go, you've placed me under your custody..."
"Absurd." Wyman scoffed. "Are you negotiating with His Highness?"
"It's just a request," Ramon said with a smile, clasping his hands together. "If you grant my request, I'm sure I'll treat this critically injured gentleman with even greater care and attention."
“No,” Thales stared at him, his face grim. “You’re not just trying to negotiate, you’re threatening me.”
"And, to stand by and watch someone die... are you really a doctor?"
“How dare I?” Ramon spread his hands, revealing his mottled, yellowed teeth. “What I mean is, even a doctor can only do their best to save him… If they fail, Your Highness can simply throw me back into the dungeon, or even cause me some trouble…”
"Of course, if he's lucky enough to be rescued by me... all you need is a little kindness from you to get me out of the dungeon..."
"And the one in bed looks like she's in a lot of pain..."
"Just give me a ride..."
“You have a lot of demands,” Wyman said coldly as he stepped forward.
“I am merely offering a suggestion,” Ramon said with a smile, “Whether Your Highness accepts it or not is entirely up to you.”
“What if I say no?” Thales murmured. “If I don’t agree to release you from the dungeon, if I don’t agree to take you away, will you refuse to treat him?”
Ramon chuckled: "Of course not..." But a cold glint flashed in the doctor's eyes.
"Hehe... But you know, my medical skills are actually very much a matter of luck..."
"Hehe... If it can't be cured, don't blame me... hehe..."
"What a pity for such a brave soldier... It looks like he shielded his comrades from harm..."
Putila's expression changed.
“You’re haggling with the prince of the stars,” he scoffed. “That’s disrespectful.”
“How dare I,” Ramon shook his head. “I simply believe in His Highness’s kindness and wisdom.”
Anger surged in Wyman's heart: "You know, we can send you back to the dungeon too."
“The ferryman can also take him across the River of Hell.” Ramon pointed to Jorah on the bed and shrugged slyly.
Rolf stared coldly at Ramon.
Putila glanced at Jora, who seemed to be struggling in a nightmare on the bed, and silently leaned close to Thales's ear:
“Perhaps we can agree to his request first, as long as Lord Satherley intervenes at the last minute to detain him, then you won’t be breaking your promise…”
Thales pursed his lips tightly.
He looked up, stopping Putila's whisper.
Thales looked at Ramon.
Is this the only practicing doctor around the Dragonbreaker Fortress?
“You know, I could actually agree to your request,” he said quietly.
Putila's expression tightened.
“Thank you!” Ramon chuckled. “It’s nothing more than a small favor for Your Highness. I think Lord Satherley will respect your kindness…”
But Ramon's chuckle was interrupted.
“But I just had a terrible day, Mr. Ramon.”
Thales exhaled with a grim expression.
He raised his head:
"And do you know why?"
Ramon's words caught in his throat.
“Because I allowed a stranger into my mission… even if he himself is utterly loyal,” Thales took a deep breath and said slowly, under the worried gazes of Wyah and Putila:
"But in the end I lost more than half of my men—they all bled for me and sacrificed themselves for me."
"It might even include this one, Jorah, who's lying in bed."
He said coldly:
"I don't like people using this to bargain with me."
Ramon was slightly taken aback.
“And this lesson taught me,” Thales looked up and heard himself say in a deep voice, “Always be wary of things you cannot understand.”
Ramon lowered his head, listening to Thales speak, word by word:
"For example, on the border between the two countries in conflict, a doctor who was inexplicably imprisoned in the fortress dungeon, full of strangeness and doubt, asked to join my team to go to the more dangerous and uncertain Exter."
Ramon frowned unconsciously.
This prince...
Thales continued, “The dungeons of Dragon Fortress may be uncomfortable, but they are safer and more reliable than the tense atmosphere at the border between the two countries, and more so than my uncertain diplomatic journey.”
"But you insist on going north to Exeter."
“You’re not here to leave the dungeon at all,” Thales said calmly, tilting his head slightly.
Ramon looked at the little prince with a strange expression.
he……
"Willing to sacrifice my own safety and interests to provide medical services to the prince's party, and then continue the perilous journey with him." Thales sat in his chair, crossing his arms:
“You must be a saint, Dr. Ramon,” Thales shook his head and said slowly, “If not…”
"You must have some ulterior motive."
Ramon frowned.
Oops.
It seems that this little prince is not as easy to fool as one might imagine.
“I just need to get out of here…” Ramon exhaled through his nose and looked up, “But it’s too dangerous outside with war looming. I think the prince’s delegation might be safer…”
“Safety?” Thales looked at him coldly. “Even a three-year-old knows that we have King Nunn’s blood on our hands, and then we’re going to his country…safe?”
“Alright, alright, I don’t expect the protection of His Highness’s guard! You don’t need to take me with you for the entire journey. I’ll leave shortly after entering Exter,” Ramon blinked and smiled wryly. “That’s all I need. I promise I can cure him!”
“Besides, I can help with other things,” Ramon said, adjusting his breathing as he turned to Wyatt and Rolf. “Like this young man’s injury… I guess it was caused by a vampire too? And you, the silver-masked guy, your arm is broken… we can’t wait…”
Wyman let out a breath.
Rolf's expression was unfriendly.
"You can definitely cure him?" Thales shouted, his tone strange. "Oh, that's not what you just said."
Ramon paused, then stammered, "I was very confident in myself... I was just trying to make sure I escaped the dungeon and avoided the war..."
But Thales was unmoved.
His Highness interrupted him once again:
"I'll give you one more chance to answer my question—what is your purpose?"
Ramon stared at him blankly.
Damn brat.
A second later, Ramon suddenly laughed:
“Fine,” he spread his hands and shrugged indifferently, “Since Your Highness doesn’t believe me, I’ll just go back to the dungeon…”
But he didn't finish speaking.
“You’ve used up your chances, Dr. Ramon.” Thales suddenly smiled. “You forced me to do this.”
Ramon's pupils contracted.
what?
What is he planning to do to me?
“Indiscriminate punishment is the privilege of tyrants,” Ramon grinned and said slowly, “And you’re still young, aren’t you? If word gets out…”
Putila looked at Thales with a puzzled expression.
The prince slowly leaned back, facing Ramon, who looked puzzled.
Thales raised his right hand and pressed it against his forehead.
“First, I apologize,” Thales said with a light laugh, “I didn’t mean to… do this to you.”
"That forbidden ability."
what?
Putila, Wyatt, Rolf, and even Edda, who had been absent-minded, all froze in surprise.
ability?
What ability?
I missed a day of updates due to personal reasons.
What? You want to make up for it?
Wu Jian: (picking his nose) What a joke! Do you think I'm the kind of person who diligently writes, and if I miss an update for a day, I'll try my best to make up for it with two chapters the next day?
It doesn't look like it!
I accept everything: collections, recommendations, tips, monthly tickets, scathing reviews, praise, and mindless criticism!
Only requests for more chapters will not be accepted!
By Wujian, who looked completely serious.
